“Mixed feelings...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2010

The Lydmar is beautifully located in the centre of Stockholm - but, as is often the case with trendy or designhotels, it has a poor service culture and does certainly not justify charging the rates the hotel is charging. The rooms can vary greatly (it might help to break their medium room category in two). They are beautifully decorated, however, beds are certainly not the best. Charging the rates the Lydmar is charging (more than the Grand Hotel next door, one would expect a high-end bed like Hästens or Duxiana - but none of that). Bed linnen also very average - great disappointment. In the summer, any rooms facing their restaurant terrace means no sleep until 1am - when they stop the extremly loud music. Loud music and noise a generally a bad habit of the Lydmar. Dinner in their restaurant is extremely noisy - not just because of the loud music but also because the restaurant is open plan, i. e. putting dirty dishes in the service lift creates extra noise levels that are truly annoying. Otherwise, the food is pleasant but nothing to write home about. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful - but a little lost, both at the restaurant and reception. So: choose your room wisely and lower your expectations. It's 5 star plus prices for 3 star service...

I've stayed at the Lydmar a number of times for business. It's a great hotel, cool and funky. The staff at the front desk are without fail helpful. My only criticism of the place is that the staff in the restaurant aren't very efficient. It always takes forever to get served there, to the point that it can be a bit embarrassing if you're hosting friends or a meeting. You're often left with unfilled glasses, waiting for someone to bother coming around to take your order and the like. It's a shame because if they could sort this out, it would truly be a great hotel.

The Lydmar hotel was a unique city centre hotel, and a great choice for my first stay in Stockholm. From the unimposing entrance you would mistake this for a hotel, again when you enter the hotel everything is stylish and fresh. The hotel room had everything you would need, the bed, lounge area and especially the shower was amazing. The hotel lounge/bar area was again comfortable and it seemed a popular place for young (with cash) locals to come and socialise at night on the weekend, in saying that it did not feel overcrowded at all - nor did the service lapse. Great hotel, great service and location!

We spent a weekend in Stockholm last August and stayed at the Lydmar.
All in all a great experience.

Room: booked a standard room, got upgraded to a medium room; very spacious, high ceilings, serveral windows, wooden floors, nicely decorated; spacious bath room, with window; felt more like a of posh little apartment; great views towards the Royal Palace

Staff: very friendly and helpful,
Breakfast: somewhat limited, but of high quality, delicious.
The breakfast lounge operates as a fancy restaurant in the evenings, we even spotted a Royal guest that weekend..

The Lydmar does not convey much of a standard hotel atmosphere, which makes it truly special on the one hand, but this can be a bit akward at times. When we arrived very late on Friday we thought we took the wrong entrance and just stumbled into a party and felt a bit disoriented looking for the (very discreet) check in area amongst lots of beautiful people sipping drinks.

We stayed at the Lydmar in early November for 3 nights. This hotel has a great location. Everything is well within walking distance. The staff was wonderful and went out of their way to accomodate every need. But the best thing about this hotel may be its restaurant which has a feel of your own living room but much cooler.

My wife and I stayed her for a 3 night, child free City Break. As a city, Stockholm seems to be full of beautiful people to the exclusion of all others. This seems to be the hotel where the most beautiful chose to work.

The hotel is VERY discretely positioned between the Grand Hotel and National Museum directly opposite the Royal Palace - so discrete that out taxi driver had to tell us where the front door was. Entering the hotel is like entering another world. The trendiest person is likely to be a member of staff. We checked in and were quickly taken up to our room - we had chosen a "large room." This meant that we had a very nicely designed sitting area with a view over to the Palace and windows onto the museum and a separate bedroom with a view onto a small park and more water at the back. Small toilet in the vestibule and a fabulous, large bathroom off the bedroom. The bedroom was perhaps on the small side with no space for bedside tables, but the overall space of the room made up for this. Note the very discrete, but very raunchy design on the throw over the bed! Oh - and the room also had a display cabinet filled with trendy, artsy little items that are scattered around the hotel.

We ate in the hotel on our fist night and the atmosphere in the bar/restaurant was great. This is obviously a place where people come to eat and drink even if not staying. The room has been carefully designed so that it feels you are eating in someone's front room - albeit someone with gorgeous looking friends, a great stereo, fabulous CD collection and loads of retro books about the 1980s. We loved it. Breakfast is also taken in this room and was superb.

The hotel is not cheap - nothing in Stockholm is - but you get what you pay for.
