“A really nice an cosy place to stay in Stockholm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

When I come to Stockholm next time, I will call Helen again and I really hope that there will be a room for me! Now I stayed two nights 5-7th August in Stockholm in Helen's B&B in her home. She is such a nice person and the stay there was like being at home. I called her from Hamburg and asked for a room. Then we phoned some more times and I had the impression that she was expecting me like you wait for a family member coming home. The house is just wonderful. Helen had lots of time to talk to us, so that we really felt good. The rooms are very nice. Thank you so much Helen!
Heidi, Germany

Room Tip: Because the house is in a part of the town with only private houses with gardens, there is no noise...

We booked the studio for 4 nights and were impressed by the warm welcome Helen gave us. She's a person who really cares for their guests, e.g. we were keen on discovering Stockholm by bike as we read on Helen's homepage that she used to rent some bicycles on a non-commercial basis. Unfortunately the person in charge of the technical servicing hadn't passed yet so that in a first step she told us that she couldn't provide us with bikes. We must have appeared very disappointed because after a short while she suggested to have a quick look at the bikes and we realized that we had only to pump up the tires. At the end of our stay, she even didn't want us to pay for the bikes :-).
Indeed, the studio is small for 2 adults. So is the bed. Fortunately there's an additional pull-out bed that can be used. Finally all worked out well i.e. we spent a fantastic time at Helen's and we will remember the interesting discussions and the warmth of this exceptional host that she is.

This must be the most personal and charming B&B that we have ever stayed in. And yet very professionally managed. Helen is a wonderful host and you will get the best of service. She will step out of her way to give you those extra tips and recommendations on what to do and where to go. She is a very generous and warm person and will be happy to share a good laugh or some life wisdom with you. The rooms are clean and charming and the area is quite and safe. We slept like babies in her Studio. In the morning we had breakfast in the garden, and what a way to start the day! We can highly recommend this B&B. It´s a great experince in all ways, and our trip to Stockholm would have been a lot more dull without our stay here.

'Helen's B&B' is situated in a house in a wonderful garden, in a village-like place on the outskirts of Stockholm. Helen is a very nice person who runs this B&B with her warm and heartful kind. The room we had was comfortable, the bathroom is very small, but nevertheless, we had all that we wanted there, and the nights were perfectly quiet.
We recommend the walk through the wood to the Metro-Station Sockenplan and there a morning-coffee in the place called 'Gateau'! Ask Helen and she will explain the way!

We stayed 2 nights at Helen's B&B and our experience was great. As we travelled by car, we stayed just outside Stockholm, and went to the city by tube. Our car was save with Helen, and this was very convenient. The tube station was 10' walk.
The room was small but very clean, and as the weather was so nice, we had breakfast in the beautiful garden. The little kitchen was ideal and the Swedish bathroom simple and clean. We went of to Stockholm and Helen told us to have diner at ''The Pelican'', The restaurant was great indeed. Helen's house is a peaceful place to relax and with easy acces to Stockholm. The house is ''zen '' and Helen is a very nice person who takes time to listen and to talk with her guests and this is what a real B&B is all about !

Make no mistake, hotels in Stockholm are not cheap! When we were researching places to stay in the Swedish capital Helen's was one of those that fell within our price range. When she promptly responded to our email she was at pains to point out that she was definitely NOT providing hotel type luxury. On arrival early in the morning we got a warm welcome from our host. She was bursting with information and useful tips as to getting around and being generally 'Stockholmwise'.
She brought us food for our breakfasts (including seriously delicious cheese). The metro station Stadmyra is no more than 5 minutes walk or you could get a bus much nearer the house. A 6 to 8 minute metro journey gets you into Gamla Stan (Stockholm's lovely Old Town). To our accommodation itself: the area is charming, refined and safe; everywhere in the neighbourhood you'll see typical Scandinavian wooden houses with their distinctive gables. Like Helen wrote in her letter this is not a hotel, the shower is the type you will find on a ferry (her description). It might not be your 'cup of tea', but hey, we didn't go to Stockholm to shower and nothing else!
I found the bed quite comfortable and the area so quiet that even light sleepers could have a restful night. The wifi was free and the connection good. Each morning on our way out we would admire Helen's garden especially the beautiful roses.

This is not really what I would consider a B&B. The "cottage" is not a cottage. It is a small, dark room, with an uncomfortable mattress/bed on the floor which is pushed against the wall and a bathroom the size of a postage stamp. When you shower, the entire bathroom (which really is tiny) gets completely wet, including the toilet, so you have to spend some time trying to dry it out before it is useable. Inside lighting is poor for reading in the evening. There is a lot of stuff packed into a small space that makes it not very user friendly. This is a fine place for younger travelers who are more flexible with less creature comforts and used to staying in hostels. Neither the wifi nor the cable TV (which were advertised as part of the services available), were in fact available. We were told by Helen that some other Americans had problems with connecting to the wifi, but hey, computers are all made to be used internationally, and this was just not an honest statement of the situation. We had no problem anywhere else in the Baltics or Scandinavia. The wifi simply was not working. There is an additional daily cost for using the wifi (if it is available) at $10/day. A modest "continental" breakfast was put in the refrigerator to last the two nights we were there. It was okay, but it is probably best to bring your own coffee, tea, etc. I do want to point out that the day before we were to arrive, I received an e-mail from Helen stating that she would not be there when we arrived and that check-in time (which was at 6 p.m.) would have to be later. Now...when we made this booking, check-in time was supposed to be at 3 p.m., and I had advised her that we would be arriving around 10 a.m. with a request to drop off our luggage and then we would go into Stockholm for the day. After much back and forth (and a lot of frustration on my part) this was finally resolved and we were able to drop off our bags as originally agreed two months before our arrival. This is not close to a metro station. It is at least a 15-20 minute walk if you are an older couple (like we are) and if the weather is inclement, it is not convenient. The #63 bus does stop a few blocks from her place, if you can catch it while it is running. Helen does give good directions to her home which was useful. If you are coming in from the bus station, you will pay about 250 SEK (the least expensive - about $36, but it can be up to 500 SEK or $72) to get to her place. You can negotiate prices with the cabs out in front of the bus station, which is helpful. A bus trip from the Arlanda airport to the Stockholm Central station costs about $45/person. This is where you then get a taxi to get to her place in Enskede. Use Stockholm Taxi company. It is about a 20 minute metro ride to Gamla Stan and longer to other areas of interest in Stockholm. This place is not really as advertised, but it is less expensive than the hotels in Stockholm and it will do if all you need is a place to sleep.

Room Tip: Just can't recommend this hotel.

What to say......
It is so interesting, one person love to stay here another one have all these bad experiences!
I can only say that I am very sorry that the Studio was not as you wish.

1)If you are looking for a cottage don't book this Studio, please!

2)The Studio is approx. 27sqm, with a "Stockholm shower" (navy shower) very common in Sweden.

2)The wifi is working, nobody have had problem since you were here!

3)We have a bus stop for old people just at my mailbox, but is just running once each hour.

4)Some people would like a soft bed another a hard one.

5) I will probably take away the television, it is better to talk with each other, I think!

The best way to travel is with an open mind...then you are always happy!!!
All the best
Helen
