“Great food and service - ok acommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Great food with focus on classic french but with a swedish and asian twist. Very good service from Claes in restaurant with great knowledge of wine. Felt like a home away from home with afternoon coffee and homemade cakes. Very friendly hotel staff. Fantastic location close to small beach during summer. Accomodation clean but nothing special and very standard conference facility - come for the food, location and service - not the small rooms. We would go again if in the neighbourhood.

The hotel is well situated about 30km south of Kalmar and about 5 mins off the E22. The entrance along a gravel roadway leads to a beautiful clearing and the hotel is there looking like an old farmhouse surrounded by fields. There is good parking to the front and a short walk takes you to the hotel and restaurant entrance. Once inside there is a lovely quiet air and a well mannered helpful reception staff, saying we had arrived in time for afternoon tea and cakes.

The common areas are very clean and well decorated with many fine and interesting pictures and antiques. The room was nicely furnished with complimentary water and en suite shower and toilet.

As other reviewers have stated the food and wine are very good with a fixed menu and supplementary wine package. The service was friendly & attentive. In the morning a good breakfast offering a typical Nordic cold buffet plus hot dishes which is unusual.

There is a Japanese spa which we did not use though seemed to be popular with other guests. There are various price packages including the spa.

For me the high light is the setting of the hotel and the walks through a nature reserve to the coast which is a conservation area, all within 5 mins . In addition for a longer walk of about 15 mins take you to a lovely beach, with tables and benches, kids play area and nice sand.

A lovely experience and a good hotel to enjoy some of the lovely coastline and nature of the area.

Definitely, a return trip is planned!

Stufvenäs is a great place for conferences. The business facilities are good, and the surroundings are calm and peaceful. There is nothing to complain about where the rooms are concerned, but the standard is plain.

The greatest thing about Stufvenäs is the food, combined with a good knowledge of wine. The whiskey bar is well assorted with some unusual labels.

If you want to relax and eat the best food imaginable this is the place for you. the Japanese spa is great and the food in the restaurant is simply brilliant. The service was also really great. The wine list is also something special.

Stufvenäs Gästgiveri is a pearl among hotels!
It's located in a gorgeous spot, in the middle of some really beautiful nature - close to the water, the forest and the meadows. If you're lucky you can see all sorts of animals here, including eagles, deers and seals! :)
The hotel itself is a wonderful, old and charming building, in the most Swedish looking of all colours: red. :)

Their SPA is serene, beautiful and offer a good variety of treatments as a very reasonable rate, as well as the possibility to "just" get access to the SPA. (Several different kinds of saunas, two pools, massage chairs and hanging chairs - plus refreshments - as well as the loan of a kimono, slippers and bath towels, included).
I can recommend their treatments as well, as their personnel is really great!

So, what about the rooms?
Wow!
I love how they've kept the "old style" throughout the hotel, while also adding personal touches and making the different spots all so different from eachother. It's really lovely! The rooms are clean, well kept and very comfortable. It's quiet and nice, the bath room is fresh looking and spacious, and the beds (two twin beds in our double room, which I truly appreciate!) are very comfortable!
(The suites are also worth mentioningl. Each suite comes with a sauna and a jacuzzi - plus a spectacular view of the fields. LOVELY!)

The food is truly AMAZING! There's definitely sme GREAT talent in that kitchen, and the dishes are sure to satisfy anyone's palate. Fresh, pure food that's allowed to retain it's original taste - while still often being presented in combination with other flavours in the most amazing combinations... I am SERIOUSLY beyond impressed!
For example, their elderflower marinated strawberries with home made basil ice cream (and some other touches I won't give away - you'll have to get over there and try! You have to!) is just a slice of heaven... and the fig marmelade served with the cheese plate? Divine!

Now, to round it off, the personnel is among the best I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. Sweet, always taking time to help you and ALWAYS with a smile.

I will be coming back for more, because this place is addictive.
THANK YOU, Stufvenäs, for one of the best weekends ever!
