“Nice place about 5 minutes walk from the centre of town and the castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

Review is for the main building as there were a few chalet type building and another building across the way which was more of a hostel. Feels a bit more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel but as long as you not after the levels of service you can get from an international hotel you won't be disappointed. The room was clean and tidy, while the bathroom was a bit old. Nothing majorly wrong with it clean, tidy etc. but not really in keeping with the charm of the place. When I say old think 1980's rather than in keeping with the rest of the building. Free evening meal was a nice touch although some of the guest got a bit upset when there was not as much selection from one day to the next. Felt like having a quiet word to them to remind them that it was free! Breakfast was ok and could easily go from ok to very good if the bread, coffee and orange juice was improved. Bread was limp, coffee wasn't even nescafe standards, and orange juice was the mixed stuff. Service was friendly and I would go again if I was to go to Kalmar again. Öland is within 20 minutes driving distance and is a must for bird lovers it seems. Plenty to do otherwise around Kalmar such as the castle and the museum and loads to explore on Öland.

A trip to Kalmar was on schedule some days ago. Arrived by SAS from Stockholm-Arlanda at Kalmar airport and catched the perfectly fitting once per hour public bus service for the main train station. 22.00 Kronor, quick and calm, ok so far.
The hotel is simply not to miss. Walk in direction Kalmar slott and it´s on the street close to the slott.
There is a main building with the check in facilities. No time to wait this Sunday afternoon with a nice young woman at work. My room was above the street in a separate building, no surprise, booked this way. A room on the top floor was prepared as requested, good service here.
The room large and spacious, everything clean, a bit on the basic side but nevertheless ok for me with the short one night stay. The bathroom also ok with the shower as a simple thing separated by a curtain only. A short but good sleep here, no noise from the outside beside these pigeons and the sun don´t want to go really down this time of the year in the north.
Breakfast was in another building, offered from 07.00 am. A shorty visit only for me with a flight back to Stockholm-Bromma by Kalmarflyg this time to catch. The public bus runs every 30 minutes during the weekdays.
795,00 SEK B&B, sure ok to stay here this way.

Friendly, helpful staff, a beautiful old-fashioned bar with deep armchairs, a big, clean, quiet room, excellent supper (which I was delighted to find was included !), excellent breakfast too, reasonable price, good shower, this was the hotel I enjoyed most in the whole Scandinavian trip.

Nothing to complain about at all. All very relaxing. Mislaid my camera on the way from here to Stockholm, but the hotel helped me track it down - it turned up at Linkoping station.

The position's good too, just opposite the castle gardens, where you can go for a walk and look out over the Baltic Sea. It's not far from the station, but if you're coming by car it might be wise to print out the map in any case.

We booked a superior room for one night, me and my wife. And got a room in the annex building of the hotel, with a window towards the street. The rooms are very small, the bathrooms is fairly clean but standards from the 80's! They have made some renovation in the room by a new wall design and new lamps, it is a good try but trying a Victorian wall with the rest of the room, where you have a pine old 70's door and pink plastic bathroom! Hmm, you wonder they run out of money? In a hot summer day / night which ar erare but still occur the room will be very hot and you need to open the window, but if it is a weekend you might be disturbed by the people walking outside. Breakfast was fair, the personel are not much for smile or being helpful! It took alot of time to clear the tables which results to invation of bee's and flies!
This hotel has a fantastic location and its garden and the building (Main) itself are very beautiful I have never stayed at the main building why I rank after my stay at the annex.

Room Tip: Dont accept the annex!

Nice location in a tree lined avenue leading to Kalmar castle. But rooms are basic - bathrooms tiny. Staff appeared to be doing their their best but not quite making the grade. Reception particularly poor. Breakfast so so by Swedish standards. Don't fall for the "free dinner".
