“Pleasant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

Not the easiest of hotels to find but fortunately the taxi driver knew where he was going. Complimentary afternoon buffet and evening buffet are nice touches. Rooms are a little on the small side, somewhat basic, but comfortable. The staff are very friendly. Having stayed in other hotels, in the area, this is one of the better options and is within a good location should you wish to explore the town of Kalmar

Room Tip: A room with a view over the harbour is pleasant but guests should note the boardwalk in front of the...

This hotel can be a little hard to find at first but once you get there its in a great location just outside the old town wall walking to the castle and downtown areas. The breakfast and dinner do the job with home style comfort food nothing too fancy but does the ticket! My wife suggests perhaps a little more variety. The desk staff are very knowledgeable of Kalmar and speak perfect English. They will look up and print for you locations and directions for you. Parking is free on the weekends but you have to be out of the car park by 9 to not have to pay. Parking is a bit of a issue during business hours. I thought the room with over looking marina water view has fantastic views of the Baltic, the only warning are for tall folks, beams are everywhere and found once or twice victim of my height and gonged the noggin a few times , once with my sunglasses on my head nothing broken though. This is a converted warehouse to hotel so its got Swedish charm every where.
Interesting display cases through out to viist and see aritfacts that were found nearby. The room was comfortable with free wireless internet. Bathroom has heated towel racks. And a fridge to keep water or drinks cold.

Room Tip: Get a room with over looking the marina, water view was fantastic of the Baltic,

Oddly hard to find, and a bit bizarre, this was my least favorite hotel in Sweden, but it wasn’t bad. It was just super weird. Half of the hotel looked as if it used to be an old person’s home, or hospital, with weird beds that moved into sitting upright position, and a table that could slide over the bed (you know, for a meal if you were an invalid). Huge box television sets from the 1980s in the top corner of the room, and a bathroom door that never quite shut (the sound echoed into the room) and there was no exhaust for the steam. There was also a really annoying lamp that was attached to the bed, like an airplane seat, and could not be removed. It felt like sleeping in either a hospital or on an airplane. I’m not sure if the whole hotel looked and felt like a hospital, but if I were to stay here again, I would be sure to ask for another kind of room. We did walk past the Best Western, which was in a far better location, but when I read that there was no Air Conditioning at the Best Western, we decided to stay here. If the Best Western had AC, and I returned to Kalmar, I would definitely stay there. Again, the Clarion wasn’t bad, it was just really bizarre.

Spent two days here and no complaints at all. Clean, comfortable and good service. Lovely outlook over marina, and very good location in the town. Easy car parking and access to railway station. Good evening buffet and breakfast and you can help yourself to tea and coffee all day. Visit the castle and take a trip over to the Island of Öland to visit the gardens at the Royal palace of Solliden alone with Kalmar Castle.

Room Tip: Ask for Ocean view!

Older property...room looked out onto a wall. Room was large with eclectic mix of furnishings. It smelled musty and we opened all windows upon arrival but couldn't open them very far so couldn't air the room out. Furniture, carpeting and hotel in general showing signs of wear, however it is clean. Dinner they served was very good and something not found elsewhere. Staff pleasant. Location good. Think if you can score a waterside room you'd be happier.
We got a chuckle out of this---we couldn't locate the hairdryer. Front desk said it was here....in a drawer in a cabinet underneath the television. Guess that's where everybody looks!
Heated towel rack a nice touch along w/ coffee/tea being available round the clock. Parking is in an open public lot adjacent to the hotel. Noticed alot of families staying here.

Room Tip: Try to get a waterside room. We booked all our rooms this trip via an online service and not direct...
