We went to Kalmar on short notice, on family business, and Söderportsgården was the only hotel left with a vacancy.
While everyone was friendly and service minded the place as such was barely bang for the bucks.
We had asked for one room, with an extra bed, but when we arrived we were presented with a spartan two room suite. At 10 PM and a day on the road, and with the knowledge that there might not be another vacancy in the vicinity, we didn't argue.
One room lacked curtains but the floor space was crowded with workbenches; the other room was slightly better, but not by much.
The furniture was odd, in a cheap and uncharming way; the beds left us with aching backs. Nails in the walls showed there might had been pictures, but not any more.
The bathroom had seen better days and the hallway connecting the two rooms and the bath had a huge fat stain on it.
The towels provided were thread-bare.
Not what we had expected, not at that price - we paid 2.300 SEK for two nights. The location is great, though, and the restaurant is kind of OK, like the breakfast.
And I guess it's good value if your option is to pay for two rooms at one of the regular hotels.
