“Best location but quite old interior!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

The hotel interior feels old and outdated! It is not one of the hotel with history but it feels nice and elegant with design. It just feels old and a bit unclean even. The shower and bathroom looks like it's from the 80s and the curtains look like it's been there since the hotel was built and no one has took it down for a wash. My room has a window facing the ally close to another building which makes the room really dark even in the morning. The breakfast is quite good. Service is great! Amazing location. It's just right across the street of Malmö train station and shopping streets, restaurants and bars.

A pleasant quiet hotel very convenient for railway and bus stations and close to city centre of Malmo. Hearty breakfast with all the usual scandinavina offerings. Well fitted bedroom. Helpful (and english speaking) reception staff.

This hotel is part of a cluster in the older buildings across the street from Malmo's railway station. The station itself presents some navigational challenges because it has been completely rebuilt in recent years and the internal signage is not as clear as it should be. If you can escape through the right exit, noting the newly-converted food court, you come out into the bus station, walk through this, over a canal and approach the cluster of hotels, several of which are in the same ownership as the Residens. The Residens, however, is set back to some extent on a side street and is probably quieter. The Sherriff's Lady and I certainly found it peaceful and managed some good nights sleep, even on the last night of the Malmo summer festival. The bathroom was looking a little tired and in need of some modernization but the sleeping area was a good size with an air of comfort rather than Scandinavian minimalism. The hotel is well located to walk into the city centre and find bars and restaurants - it was only offering breakfast when we were there, although this was an excellent buffet. All the staff we met were friendly, spoke good English and were keen to encourage us to explore their city: Malmo is a much underrated place - I have often stayed there rather than in Copenhagen because the hotels are cheaper and the place is less frantic. The Sherriff's Lady was with me for the first time and was much impressed.

Since Elite hotel Savoy where I usually stay was full I decided to book Residens that is a sister hotel. It has the same great location just 100 meters from Savoy.
I booked a junior suite high up because I wanted some views. I did like the size of the room and the fact it didn't have any wall to wall carpets. It was wooden floors with some smaller carpets by the bed and under the sofa table which was nice.
The bathroom was totally another thing. In there was this huge corner bathtub, no shower cubicle so you have to climb into the tub and the shower. The consequence is that all the water is on the floor afterwards because there wasn't any shower curtain. There were also a bidet (very 80's) and the decor was really from the 80's.
Also the interior in the room was dated and it could really do with an update as well as the corridors. When I stayed there was only one elevator functioning and the other one was being repaired. I stayed for 3 days and it wasn't fixed when I left. That caused a lot of waiting.
The staff was very nice and serviceminded and when I saw that the hairdryer was of that old kind they used to have in public baths I asked if they had another one and I immediately got a new one.
The breakfast was ordinary and nothing extra. A bad thing that happened was that they marked the eggs wrong. I always want hardboiled eggs and naturally I took one from the basket marked hardboiled. But the egg was really loose even the egg white was loose. I took another one and the same happened. Then I tried the other basket and of course there were the hard boiled ones. This is a big mistake and many eggs just went down the drain.

It was my first stay in that hotel and it was a very nice surprise. It's not easy to get a nice hotel in Sweden for a reasonably price, but this is an exception!!! We had a very silent rooms with view on the interior square, so it was nice as well. Room itself, very correct. Not the latest design, but big and very comfortable. Location is excellent, next to the central station and the old town. Very good breakfast and very nice staff. Highly recommended!!!

Stayed here for 2 nights in a combined trip to Malmo and Copenhagen. The hotel is in an excellent location only a couple of minutes walk to the central train station (which we used for Copenhagen and to Lund) and the same the other way to the main square and the main sights of Malmo. Our room was on the 3rd floor facing out to the quiet side street where the main entrance opens out to. Room was of an adequate size - spacious enough for a couple of nights. Room had wooden flooring. Bathroom was a decent size and even had a bidet. Tea/coffee making facilities included and they even had proper UHT milk rather than the horrible creamer stuff found in many hotels. Beds felt a bit soft which seemed to be a common theme when we stayed in Copenhagen as well. Maybe it's a Scandinavian thing? Breakfast was very good though with a good mix of hot and cold food. Even had meatballs and decent fresh fruit such as melon and pineapple. Also did the most delightful little muffins which were not too oily and sweet. Staff were friendly and helpful. Due to the great location, we would nip in and out of our room during a day's sightseeing. We enjoyed out stay here and the room and breakfast was certainly better and better value compared to the hotel we stayed in Copenhagen. Can recommend.

Room Tip: Room facing the side street should be quieter.

Not the best rooms in the world. Not the most polished fittings in the building. Hardware? Maybe 4-5 out of 10, with breakfast an exceptional 8. But the staff...probably the best I've ever experienced. Professional, helpful and genuine people out of this world. Would definitely stay with them again!
