“Nice hotel; typical European rooms, good breakfast, nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

The Best Western Arctic Hotel in Luleå is a nice hotel. It's not super-fancy, but the rooms have flat-screen TVs and are decent size for Europe. I've stayed there numerous times, and I've never had a bard experience. There are some smaller rooms, but I've only had one of those once. The rooms have flat-screen TVs, which is a nice update.

The restaurant is quite good, especially for a hotel. The breakfast is very satisfying. They have eggs, bacon, hot-dogs, and pancakes (more like crepes) as hot food. There are some cold meats, cheeses and assorted foods as well as cereal and breads. It's a good, filling breakfast, especially when it's included in the room rate. The restaurant also has good food for dinner; the "Black Rock Steak" is quite good. A very hot black rock is brought out to your table along with the steak (cut into pieces) and veggies that you cook on the rock to your satisfaction. I found this to be excellent both times I've had it. The other food is good as well. I've never had a bad meal there, and I've had quite a few.

The staff is very nice. They are friendly and helpful. I had a billing issue (the overnight desk person incorrectly charged my credit card and couldn't fix the problem without it "taking a long time," but I called back later in the day, and the staff was able to solve my issue.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. Again, it's not overly fancy, and the lobby/rooms are a bit outdated, but it's clean and very nice.

The hotel was very average, nothing that would have been very bad but no positive surprises either. Luleå is a small city and we found the location of the hotel fine even though it was not as central as some other hotels. A 5 minute extra walk was not a problem.

This is a very clean, bright and modern hotel in a quiet part of Lulea City, and we stayed here for 6 nights. The Main Street (Storgatan) is a 3 minute walk away, with many good restaurants and shop in the area. The rooms are very nice, although not as large as in US Hotels. The staff is very friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. The Hotel also has one of the best restaurants in town. The Breakfast buffet is EXCELLENT. The Internet Service is fast. There is a spacious garage in the Basement for guests, as well as a lot of parking spots on the streets around that are very cheap (and free from 6 pm to 9 am).

I warmly recommend this hotel to all visitors to this beautiful city!

A clean, modern hotel which is what I'd expect from Best Western. I personally thought the breakfast was very good rather than adequate as some reviewers have said and the evening meal in the restaurant also very good. I can recommend the Moose! What the other reviewers failed to mention is the staff. All staff that we met were very friendly, helpful and keen to tell us all about their city. I would certainly recommend the hotel.

this nice hotel provides you with all you would need. Although it is not top range, it is well located and has a nice restaurant if you don't want to walk around too far. I had an upgraded room at the front on the first floor and that was very spaceous, the size of town flat, in my opinion. breakfast was, for me, OK.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2011

My second stay at this hotel this year was last weekend, November 4 to November 6. This time around I had opted for a room with a queen bed as opposed to the room I had last time (with a single bed). The room was adequate in size.

Pros:

* The room with the queen bed I had faced the inner yard - no noise from outside. Didn't have any problems with noise in the room I stayed in last time either and that one faced the street - Luleå is a small town which means not a lot of traffic during the nights (at least not compared to bigger cities like most European capitals for example), and traffic doesn't really bother me while sleeping but if it *does* bother you then the room I had this time facing the inner yard should be a good option, no traffic can be heard at all.

* Staff is extremly polite and friendly. I was able to check in a little bit early, which was nice since I had an appointment in the early afternoon on the day of my arrival (guess this depends on how much guests they have and how quickly the rooms become availble). They also helped me book a cab with a reliable taxi company and this was much appreciated too since I travelled as a single female traveller and needed to feel safe.

* Very neat and clean room, and a very polite housekeeper. Important for me, cleanliness is something I value.

* Nice breakfast. Some people have commented on the coffee in the breakfast room being slighlty subpar, since the machine they use might not make the best coffee in the world and that is possibly the only drawback of the breakfast. It's *not* a huge deal for me though, despite being an avid coffee-aholic, since they also serve complimentary coffee in the lobby 24 hours a day and the coffee in the lobby is nice. The rest of the breakfast is good for a hotel in this price range. Various breads, spreads, cold cuts, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal etc plus some hot dishes as well (sausages, scrambled eggs, bacon and my personal favourite - the pancakes).

* LOVE the location with the closeness to all communications such as long-distance buses, railway and airport bus. No noise from the railway either during the night, and the hotel is just opposite the railway. I much prefer this location over some of the others that are adjacent to some bars. Like stated previously, the traffic doesn't bother me in this spot - good windows and a small town with little traffic helps perhaps. I *am* much more bothered by drunk people leaving night clubs and pubs and therefore this one is in a much better spot than the hotels that are adjacent to the local pubs and nightclubs for me. If you want to go to the pubs, restaurants etc in town they are still close enough to be within a very short and easy walk. Luleå is after all a fairly small town.

* wireless was free and worked well in this room too.

For a three-star hotel, this is a gem! If you expect a luxury five-star hotel, you'd be disappointed but since there aren't any five-star facilities in town anyhow, this is a good choice.

Will be spending a night this weekend at a different hotel in town (as a part of an entertainment package where we weren't able to choose which hotel to stay at for a particular event and price) and it'll be interesting to see if it matches this one or not.

This is a nice, small hotel in the "down town" of Lulea, close to the bus and railway stations. My room was not too big but I have no complaints. Nice bed and decent breakfast.
