“Beautiful place to visit during summer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

A really lovely place to visit. Even if you have seen other "old towns" around Sweden, this one is the biggest and best preserved and Gammelstad Church Town is on the World Heritage List of cultural and natural settings of outstanding value to humanity. It is so beautiful during the summer, you can walk around for more than hour and also take a look inside houses. As far as I remember, until the end of August the Visitor Centre offer guided tours, which are four times per day (not in the afternoon though). It costs 65sek and kinds under 15 go for free, which is a good idea for families! The also have a cafeteria there and a restaurant, so you can eat a proper meal and have some rest.
They have awesome shops with craftsmanship and design, but of course those things are expensive. But so pretty! Small souvenirs are in acceptable prices and really worth buying.
It is definitely worth to see this place if you are in Luleå.

“A great place to visit and relax!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2012

We had a great time wandering through this old church town! It is quaint and old and definitely gave a feeling of being in a time warp. There are also shops to visit where you can buy items and a cafe where you can stop and rest while savouring the goodies. We happened to be in the church when a christening was beginning. They allowed us to stay and it was a wonderful experience!

“Very intersting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

The village was used when going to church from places far away. Reamarkable and special. Meeting once a week in the summer with great vintage automobiles.

“The least visited world heritage in the world...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012

A beautiful and very quiet place in the wintertime (which means more than half of the year in Northern Sweden). During the week-end, when most visitors should be expected, everything is closed - the socalled visitor center, the museum house, the open-air museum, the shops, the restaurant... But definitely worth a visit. However, It might be difficult to walk around the village. Only the main street is cleared for snow (up to 2 meters deep) ! You can easily get to the village by local bus from the town-center of Luleå. Busses leave at least once every hour.

“A picturesque old town but quiet in winter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

The church village of Gammelstad or Kyrkbyn is very pretty with its coating of winter snow. On a Sunday whenit is snowing heavily it is also very deserted with nothing at all open - no cares or restaurants or even the visitor centre. It is nicer to visit on a sunny day in winter if you have a chance as the snow drifts between the old houses with the sun glistening on the snow is beautiful.
