“Just go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Having often bemoaned the lack of decent food locally I am delighted to say that the Tavern ticks all the boxes.

I won't give a blow by blow account of our meal, suffice it to say that the menu was interesting, our choices were cooked to perfection and delicious and the Pedigree was to die for.

more importantly the people who run the place are genuinely friendly.

Fantastic food in a "proper" pub, does it get any better?

“A Wonderful Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012 via mobile

The Food at the Tavern is excellent. For the starter my wife had the Chicken Liver Pâté and I had the Black Pudding and Bacon. Both were really good portion sizes and very tasty. Some people may find the portion sizes too large but we had no trouble because they tasted so good. For our main meal we both had the Belly Pork, the best we have ever had, served on a bed of crushed new potatoes and white cabbage with a cream sauce. We did not manage a pudding but will forgo the starter on our next visit and try the deserts. They have good selection of beers, largers and wine. The staff are very pleasant but you may be in for quite a wait during their busy times.

“Most Welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

This village hostelery has a mixture of fine food , good ale and wine , warmth , humour , and in the winter months a good old fashioned roaring fire .
The staff are friendly and helpful , and Chef will even parade himself beyond the kitchen to enquire if all is well ...................................Chris the landlord seems to have found the secret of offering good value dining , whilst keeping the atmosphere of an old traditional country pub , a rare thing indeed in these times.
We will certainly be visiting again.

“Cosy, welcoming pub serving exquisite restaurant standard meals with a warm welcome resulting in a definate return visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012 via mobile

Called in on the off chance. Warm friendly welcome from Chris & staff. Extensive mouthwatering menu with out of the ordinary choices. Highly recommend pan seared scallops on the most beautiful blackpudding I have ever tasted (for starters) portions not for the faint hearted! Ox cheeks, cooked for 10hrs absolutely divine, melt in the mouth served with fresh veg & a naughty portion of proper home made chips. Definately going back to sample more off the menu will book to avoid disappointment. Surroundings clean, well decorated & real antiques (not like the fake ones in pub chains). Main courses range between £11-20 per head.they also do their own pizzas baked outside in the wood fired pizza oven. The pedigree bitter is the best pint I've had I'm a long time....
Go on give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

“Great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We were staying at Manor House Farm B&B and arrived quite late on a Sunday evening.Chris our host suggested we try The Tavern. There is plenty of parking in the car park across the road from the Pub. There is a nice atmosphere when you enter and a cheery welcome from the barman. As well as a restaurant it is the local pub . It was very busy and we sat at the bar for a drink until a table was available. Good selection of draught beer. There is a good selection of home made food on the menu.( the home made pies are delicious). All the staff were very friendly. We were staying in the area for 3 nights and used the restaurant twice.Great value for great food. Will be back next year for more.
