“Worth finding for the cafe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

Popped in as we needed breakfast on our way to the Rail Cruising just down the road. Fantastic food - as long as you like blueberries that is.

Virtually everything on the menu is blueberry - but superb quality and served up by delightful staff.

“A nice blueberry break on the road to Rotorua”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Usually, I pass a lot of the businesses with advertising signs along the road trying to reel in tourists, because I am afraid of being disappointed in the quality of the produce or merchandise.

Not so Mamaku Blue.

I would have also passed up this farm except for the recommendation from our local NZ travel advisor. This is a delightful, unpretentious place. I knew this was the real thing when the owner of the business shows up apologizing because her fingertips were stained dark blue from processing the blueberries.

They have both a shop and simple restaurant fronting their blueberry farm. The quality of food is high. We ordered their blueberry pancakes which consisted of more blueberries than pancake!! Berries were plump and bursting with flavor, and the eggy pancakes were not overly-sweet which I appreciated. Served in an Auckland restaurant this would easily be NZ$25 or more.

From their shop we selected blueberry dog biscuits for my sister's dog, as well as blueberry liquer as a gift, and a big bag of dried blueberry "raisins".

The staff was extremely friendly and more than happy to talk about their merchandise, but were also interested in what we thought of New Zealand. This was a pleasant break in the road trip on our way to Rotorua, and I would stop here again if I were passing this way.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at Mamaku Blue and thank you for your wonderful comments. Yes, as you mentioned, we are the real thing and it is great the way you recognised this. We also liked the way you described our place and will remember your wording for our future promotions. We do have people often returning for our blueberry pancakes, even frequent travellers to New Zealand from the other side of the world. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and we hope to see you again when you are able to return to New Zealand.

Shop has a great range of blueberry products for sale as well as fruit wines. We enjoyed a cup of tea and great blueberry muffins with heaps of blueberries in them.

“great blueberry delights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

A dream come true with delightful and amazing blueberry produce. After a bad experience with Monavale blueberry farm, Cambridge, this was a breath of fresh air. The prices were clearly marked on the items, so there weren't any surprises. I would prefer to travel the extra distance from Cambridge, knowing that I had great service, good food and was a valued customer.

“Wish I read the reviews!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013 via mobile

Run down and doesn't live up to the promise of its advertising. The cafe reminds me of something from yesteryear, so uninviting and devoid of ago atmosphere, only a brave soul would order.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at Mamaku Blue. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your time with us. The cafe is supposed to remind you of yesteryear as it is the entrance to our "Mamaku Motaron Museum," where you can take a walk back in time and see just how our ancestors living in Mamaku worked and lived and the equipment they used. However we have not been as successful in portraying this through the cafe and as soon as we have time intend to work on this situation. We are a small family business and time and money are both limited. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and we hope to see you back again for a more enjoyable experience.
