“Five Star maybe ? food definitely not !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Lovely setting, great public areas and impressive reception.
The pool is one of the best i have experienced.
Rooms are smallish but comfortable (had to pay extra for sea view).
Staff vary most friendly and helpful the odd misery guts.
Sadly the food lets it down, we both had dodgy stomachs, towards the end of our
ten days luckily. The weather was lovely and that made a huge difference.
The spa was under renovation which was noisy and dusty but we were
outside most of the time. Would we go back, yes I think so it was pretty
good value for what we paid.

Room Tip: Balcony, sea view - although others were happy with the 'extension'.

Fabulous hotel where they did all they could to make our stay a great one. Staff were extremely helpful and outdoor pool area lovely although the loungers had seen better days.Jazz bar had a great atmosphere and prices were not too expensive, all in all a superb introduction to our future home.

Room Tip: Rooms in hotel are superior to bungalows as you have a way to walk up to main hotel and balconies ar...

We booked through Secret Escapes and arrived here having spent 3 nights in Istanbul first.
We were given a room at the back which was disappointing at first, but then we realized how lucky we were as the sea view rooms overlook the sitting out area, which means people could probably see you on the balcony if they looked up.
The room was spacious and en suite, and the 6 foot bed was very comfortable.
The swimming pool is stunning and you can eat there at lunch time very reasonably. You can also reach the sea in the mini bus, where there is a separate beach club available free for guests. You just pay for any food or drink you consume there.
September is a very good time to go as it is not too hot, but the sea is warm .
The food is a help yourself buffet, which means you can eat as much as you like, but it is not 5 star. There is however a good choice. The puddings let it down as they are too sweet, but there is plenty of fresh fruit.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook the mountains and are quiet.

We found the standard of bedroom and public rooms at this hotel to be very good . The quality and the variety of food offered ( apart from the orange juice ) was excellent. The staff were all friendly, pleasant and helpful, and the pools, gardens and grounds kept very well. This hotel IS a little way from the bustle of downtown Kyrenia, but with a daily courtesy bus and public transport from the foot of the road at very reasonable cost, this is not a problem. There is also a courtesy bus to the beach, where there is a sea pool and fish restaurant. No hesitation in recommending this hotel .

Room Tip: sea views are exceptional

We spent a week at the Malpas booked via A1 Cyprus and had a great time. The hotel could not be faulted for facilities and the staff were friendly, and helpful. The only criticism, as stated by others, was the variety of food on offer, particularly for evening dinner and this aspect did not live up to a 5* rating. This was compensated for by the proximity of a fantastic local restaurant 'Sultans' and we ate there every day either for lunch or evening meal. Although we had paid for half board we did not not object to eating out because of the value and quality of food on offer at Sultans.

The main positive of the Malpas is a fantastic pool area and amazing views, it really is in a good spot, especially if you have a hire car. The rooms are adequate, a good size and more than you need on a holiday, however, they would not be classed as 5 star elsewhere. Breakfast could also be counted as a positive, a decent selection and always fresh / hot.

The indoor pool area is very nice and a haven for when the thunder storm arrived, well worth taking advantage of.

On the negative side, the outdoor pool seemed fairly dirty, it certainly wasn't being cleaned on even a weekly basis that's for sure. The casino is not worth visiting, especially if you've ever been to some of the islands alternatives.

The main negative though was the staff, especially the reception and pool staff, the reactions were terse at best and downright rude at worst.

All in all, a nice hotel that I would recommend to most people, though possibly as a second or third choice.

Both my husband and I had a realy enjoyable 10 days at the hotel were the restaurant and bar staff were very helpful as my husband had very restricted walking problems and the staff were always at hand to help. The hotel itself is very modern and well appointed set in the mountain side, the poolside furniture
is lovely,we shall certainly go back again next year and hopefully take our grandaughters with us.

Room Tip: Or though the sea view is lovely if you have a mountain view you get the sun all day.
