“Enjoyable Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

Stayed at this Hotel from May 16th to May 30th 2012.in rooms 236 and 237 (two couples) ) The rooms were nice and clean well decorated with the usual facilities (Hair Dryer was more like a Vacuum Cleaner with very little heat - I'd advise you take your own.)
Unfortuately,it seems that due lack of staff in the Housekeeping Dept.our rooms were not cleaned until mid afternoon I would expect better service and cleaning for a 5 star hotel.

We were pleasantly pleased with choice of Sun Beds etc. even at eleven o clock in the morning, but it started to get busier as the holiday progressed! The Sunbeds, Sun Canopies & Swimming Pool was very efficiently looked after by Aziz who supplied your Towels and sorted out your Sun Canopy without any hassle whatsoever (no tickets, tokens or replacement towels to hand over) you ask for two you got two and you placed them in the basket at the end of the day.

The Dining Room was very pleasant with plenty of room between tables and there was also quite a large area for you to sit outside if you wanted. This hotel runs a Buffet only set up in the Dining Room from Tea & Coffee through to your Desserts, as far as I could assertain only the Water and the Wine was Waiter served - the main job of the Waiters was to set (basic) tables and clear away. More training required!
The food overall was very good from the fresh bread and savoury rolls through to the Ice Cream (not always available) there was something for everybody, don't expect fish & chips or roast beef & Yorkshire pudding!
The main Reception area was very spacious and clean and the seating very comfortable, the male receptionists were all helpful but there was some language difficulties (similar situation in the Dining Room but we always ended up with what we wanted!)
The Garden and Balcony area of the Hotel was just as nice as the rest with very comfortable Loungers,Easy Chairs,Settees and Tables in appropriate places.

Sorry, but now just a gripe or two or three.

1.You are advised by the hotel and your travel rep NOT to drink the tap water for obvious reasons and because of this instruction you need Bottled Water, what does this hotel do, it prohibits food and drink to be brought into the hotel but charges a premiun price of 5 Turkish Lire for a 1.5Litre bottle- exactly the same make, label and size can be obtained from the nearest shop a few hundred yards away at 1 Turkish Lire
Sorry Malpas you are Ripping your Hotel Guests Off!!

2.When you go on holiday you may go to an Hotel that leaves a free bottle of Wine or a bowl of Fruit or a bouquet of Flowers. When we entered our room at the Malpas on the Dressing Table there was a Pkt of Crisps a Bag of Nuts a small bottle of Wine and a small tin of Biscuits, not thinking we assumed it was Gratis from the Hotel thank you very much. It was only when we came to pay the bill at the end of the hoilday and questioned these items did we find that they were part of the Mini Bar stock, fair enough we paid up. But surely, some notice drawing people's attention to the fact that they are chargeable items should be shown.
3.Lastly, this hotel is called the Malpas Hotel & Casino, Northern Cyprus has quite a number of Casinos and consequently they are all competing for trade. I'm given to understand that the Malpas in some cases offers free rooms, free 'escorts' free food etc.to clients of the Casino, fine that's business, what should'nt be happening is these clients should'nt be given rooms in the main hotel building adjoining people and families who have come on holiday. Its not very nice being woken up in the middle of the night by loud talking in the corridors and subsequent noises in the rooms!
No more moans(constructive criticism!)

Finally, overall, we have had a very enjoyable holiday in Northern Cyprus in a nice hotel, seeing all the places we wanted to see. We flew into Larnaka and then a taxi through the Green Line (Border Control) to the Malpas, approximately 90mins travel time - no problems at the border our tour operator was Anatolian Sky who also ran the tours we went on very efficiently would certainly recommend them.
Thank you to all concerned.

We have just returned from a week at the Malpas and had a superb time.During our stay we got married at Bellapais Abbey and all the staff at the hotel couldnt of helped us enough. While we were over there it was also the misses birthday and the waiters came over with a cake in the evening, very nice:-))
The hotel is about a 10 minute drive from the harbour area of Kyrenia but the Malpas runs a shuttle bus there at 10.30 and brings you back at 4.30,they do the same with there beach club but we didnt go down there due to lack of time.
The major attraction of the hotel is the outdoor pool,2 massive ones next to each other, simply the best ones we have used and always kept clean, the british olympic swimmers would like these, they also provide you with towels thanks to Azim when you get down there and you simply hand them in when you have had enough,a nice touch.
The sauna, steam room, turkish bath and indoor pool are all free,i used the indoor pool and it was lovely and refreshing. There is also a spa for the women, not badly priced either.
The food was lovely,we didnt have a bad meal all week, the usual moaners were there,no fish and chips and coronation street, but you are in Northern Cyprus, try their food its lovely and as its a buffet,if you dont like something, try a different thing,SIMPLE!!!On the subject of the restaurant,im sure many men will think what to wear so heres how i saw it,obviously breakfast you wear anything ie vests, beach shorts, but in the evening the rule is no beach wear but dont think you have to wear long trousers and jeans,a pain in the summer months for a load of us lads,i saw loads wearing fashionable knee length shorts and tshirts, just look smart.
Some people have moaned about the drinks prices, christ what do you want!!! i was having a large beer in the evening for 8 tl,a glass of local wine for the misses was 5tl and her disaronio was 10tl.This is a 5star hotel, would you expect a glass of wine at the hilton, park lane for under 2 pounds!!!!Also like all hotels, there is the usual you cant bring food and drinks from outside, just be discreet, put them in a bag, dont just walz through with it all on show. They dont stop and search you!!!lol.
I would definatly hire a car while you are here, there is so much to see in this beautiful country,we had one for 5 full days and it cost us £90 from pacific, they were great no probs,we paid to have £20 worth of petrol so you return it empty, there is a petrol station a minute from the hotel, you simply pull up and the attendent fills it and you pay,you dont even have to leave your car.We went to Kyrenia for the castle and harbour, also Famagusta,Nicosia, the coastal road and make sure you go to St Hillarions Castle,a wonderful place and Bellapais Abbey, were we got married a stunning place.
All in all,we couldnt fault the Malpas,go ther with an open mind,i always say that in turkey i always knock a star off from european hotels,so go with the expectation of a 4 star but the friendliness of the staff make it a 6 star, remember you make your holiday and these workers do long hours, always smile and say merhaba to them,it does not cost you anything!!
A special thanks to Claire from Guest relations, who hepled the misses get her wedding dress steamed, she does a great job, thanks Claire and all from the Malpas.

We stayed for a week in May and found the hotel very good in terms of accommodation, food (plenty of it and good variety). The staff are helpful and friendly. The shuttle bus to Kyrenia is useful for a short trip out and to get Dolmus to other locations. The beach club was very quite and practically unused and can be reached by shuttle bus or via a 20 minute walk.
Overall a good value and standard weeks holiday

Room Tip: We were in the annex block with sea views although the balcony did not get the sun. Best rooms are i...

I stayed at the Malpas with my teenage daughter recently and we had a lovely relaxing week. The staff at the hotel were excellent, this would be one of the reasons I would go back. Nothing was too much trouble . The pool area was really lovely, spotlessly clean and very well maintained by the attendant who was very attentive , you had a towel almost before you sat down. The room was nice and quiet as we were at the front of the hotel, and also clean.
RE the food, i have had better in other hotels but the staff more than made up for this. The breakfast was a bit bland and evening meals improved throughout the week we were there.
It seems to be a hotel for older people as hardly any other teenagers and young people were there. There wasnt alot for them to do anyway as hardly any entertainment in the evenings., but the bar and ouside on the terrace was pleasant to have a drink at night.
The only other thing i was disappointed in was the indoor pool wasnt heated and nobody was using it for that reason, theres alot of potential there to do alot more with this area, though the spa looked nice .Saying that, theres a nice atmosphere in the hotel and everyone is cheerful, i would definately go back

Room Tip: if you want a quiet room get one in the front of the hotel away from the resaturant and bar but you...

I am judging this hotel by the standard it claims, that is five star. The facilities of this hotel are first class. The rooms are spacious and are generally well furnished (another bedside table would have been nice). The bathroom needed some attention such as removal of mould and cracked tiles.
Where the hotel failed was it's staff, particularly in the resteraunt. The food is basically buffet style and in general of high quality. However, plates were cleared before the table had all finished and on occasions not cleared at all. The management seemed more intent on policing guests than helping them. The staff appeared to be new to the job with too few trained staff. This area is very important to give a guest a good experience,

I was born in Cyprus, but came to England before my 2nd birthday, and it took me 50 years to get round to returning to this beautiful island! Last year I had a real yearning to go to Cyprus, and luckily for me,a friend recommended The Malpas Hotel, which is situated near the delightful harbour town,Kyrenia. I went there in December 2011 for a week. The Malpas is situated in lovely grounds, and there are stunning views of both the Mediterranean Sea and the Kyrenian mountains. The hotel afforded me the perfect location for a peaceful holiday, and I was able to relax and sunbathe by the swimming pool, and equally the hotel was a good base from which to go off and explore all the places I wanted to see, such as the gorgeous Bellapais Abbey and St Hilarian Castle.
In fact I loved the hotel,(and Cyprus!) so much, that I went back again in March(2012),this time for 10 days! Both times I travelled alone, and one of the great things was the fantastic value for money,as there were no Single Supplements! I had requested a room with a sea view,on the first floor during both my stays at the hotel, and was thrilled that this request was delivered! The room was very comfortable, and I enjoyed sitting on my balcony, taking in the lovely view! The room was meticulously clean,as was the bathroom, and I was given clean sheets and towels every day!
The facilities were excellent, and I made good use of the indoor swimming pool and sauna.
Without exception, all the staff in the hotel were very polite, friendly, welcoming and helpful. As I was there on my own,I found it very helpful that there are two English people employed at the Malpas,in charge of "guest relations",both of whom were extremely helpful to me,and answered any questions that I had, whether concerning the hotel itself or indeed the surrounding area,as they are very familiar with North Cyprus.
In addition there are many day trips on offer, which again is very useful if one is travelling alone.
I was there on both occasions on a half board basis. The breakfasts were fantastic, with an amazing choice of food:a veritable feast! And dinner was great too, with plenty of delicious things to choose from,to suit all tastes.
I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending The Malpas Hotel, having had two wonderful holidays there!

Room Tip: Depending on what you prefer, you can request a room with a view of the Kyrenian mountains or one wit...

After visiting The Malpas to celebrate our Golden Wedding we were very disappointed the Hotel did not respond after being informed by our travel agent. After speaking to customer relations we finally received wine, fruit and nuts 24 hours before leaving, six days too late.
Hotel rooms and facilities were 5* but evening meal 2* nothing served was hot and choice very limited,

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and catch the afternoon sun. Also ask for an upgrade.
