“Just the Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

You can go to Acapulco Resort to use their beach for a price of 7-8 euros and that's what my husband and I did. The price includes beach chairs, an umbrella, and the use of showers, change rooms and the swimming pool. They have a wonderful beach and the sea is amazing. They also have a cafe where you can have drinks and food; however, the food is really expensive and not worth it, the drinks on the other hand, have reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and helpful and it's a safe place where you can relax, enjoy the Sub and the sea.

A large hotel spread over lovely grounds a mix of customers from holiday makers to convention delagates, felt a bit strange being in beachwear around a lot of people in suits . A bit put of by an army training camp right next door could hear guns being fired on firing range and for 2 days had army helicopters over the beach and pool area all day which was very noisy. So for a peaceful time is not guaranteed ,staff where not very attentive and most looked miserable ,not what I want on holiday.
We stayed in a bungalow which was very spacious but looking very tired in need of updating to match the hotel accommodation.
Positives where the spa and treatments which where very good ,also the selection of food at meal times was very good and we had no complaints.
It was a reasonable stay but would not return

Room Tip: Don't book the bungalows as they are in desperate need of updating also access is quite steep.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and your comments. Just this week almost all staff have had a day when they attended a training course which was run by the government on Guest Relations at the hotel. Most hotels in Northern Cyprus which are located by the sea have military stations around them. Once a year they have a military operations day but they only advise the public or hotels 1 day before, and this did take place for 1 day during your stay.

We like North Cyprus, booking through Cyprus Paradise - this was a third trip, but our first visit whilst so warm (11th-18th May '14 - but would not care to visit in summer!). Tried the Acapulco this time (it's very big indeed). Plus-points include being the first drop-off (and last pick-up) on transfer from Ercan airport (after long trip via Turkey), good security, the place is very smart, and extremely well-kept, there's an incredible variety of food, and very efficient management of it. You do need to like staying in a resort, or bus/taxi travel - or get a car (that is easy, and by far the best).
The drawbacks : No kettles in rooms - or allowed - like outside food/drink. Aircon not working, or not switched on. When prices are so low, it's all about money, of course. Yes, there's room service (didn't want to try that for coffee!), and the 24-hour bar, but usually such long waits for drinks or coffees - it's waitress service only, so the poor girls have to make 3 or 4 trips to you.
Anyway, we did have a very comfortable, large room (though take insect repellent if you're susceptible!), and a great holiday, but shall be choosing somewhere else next time.

Room Tip: Stay above tree level ? 4th floor or higher ? Bungalows below must be dark !!

Thank you for your comments which are appreciated. We are always looking to improve our service and have paid special attention to your experience regarding room service. We are not a self catering establishment and so as with other non self catering hotels we do not allow food or beverage to be brought in from outside.

I was there for a Congress and unfortunately realized that if you stay there don't expect anything more than gambling !. The rooms are dated, air-conditoner doesn't work at all, the staff is not professional, the cafeteria is far and not so good either. Internet is with a fee but does not work at all. Our stay was all exclusive and they stated that we have to sign bills just to check if my room is in that programme. But during check-out I had to pay extra's for Turkish coffee or water bottles in the room although no one ever stated that some options are extra even if you are all inclusive. Over all I will never prefer to go again.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Pine2 building are newer and better

Thank you for your review, I have passed the details onto our conference co-ordinator. Although I am suprised as we have many conferences and the companies come back to us most years.
Regarding what is included depends on the contract that has been made by your organisation and the hotel. The signing of bills is for us to monitor the food and beverage area, and also to assess that your are part of a conference as not all participants eat or dink in the same area.

This is a very big complex and I would not want to stay there in high season when it is full! The room was very nice indeed with a lovely balcony and great view - definitely 4 star. The service was good and most of the staff, especially room service and the maids were polite, friendly and helpful. The beach is very nice as as Cypriot beaches go, but the pool was not big enough for a hotel that size. We did not use the spa but we looked at it and it looked very nice. The biggest problem was the restaurant. Apparently in high season they do have an extra restaurant which they open and I would imagine that helps but when we went in May it was just too full and a bit of a scrum at times. The dining room is so big and when it is full it feels and sounds like Butlins. When the weather is good then there is plenty of room to eat outside which is better, although there are a lot of flies. There is a buffet with plenty of choice for breakfast and dinner but the food is mostly average. The staff are constantly whipping away your plate/glass/cup before you have barely finished, which is a bit off putting and the dining room staff on the whole were less friendly. The service and food were really only 3 star. The restaurant is also a good five minute walk from the Pine Court building. The hotel does not offer All Inclusive only half-board and it sometimes felt like the Ryan Air of hotels with all the extras you have to pay for. You have to pay for water, which I object to when you are in a country where the tap water is not drinkable. You have to pay extra for wi-if, which, whilst not expensive, was unreliable and patchy, in fact there were times when we couldn't get online at all in our room - very frustrating! You have to pay extra for the safe in the room as well. These are things that I expect to be included in a hotel that is advertised as 4/5 star but it does seem to be common in Northern Cyprus. You even have to pay extra for fresh orange juice at breakfast ( and it was quite expensive), the alternative was a variety of chemical looking fruit drinks from a machine. The coffee also came from a machine and was disgusting. We found a market just outside the hotel that sold the same wine for a quarter of the price and where we bought our water much cheaper as well. If you stay here make sure you ask for a room in the Pine Court with a sea view. The other side faces the car park - not nice views at all. We booked through Cypress Paradise who were excellent and I would highly recommend the company. There are a lot of interesting sights in Northern Cyprus and If you book with Cyprus Paradise they offer excursions but we hired a car which was delivered and collected from the hotel. Petrol is very cheap and it is really easy to get around as they drive on the left. Kyrenia, the nearest town is a bit of a dump, although the harbour in the old town is pretty and the castle quite interesting. I would give Lapta and Lambousa a miss, nothing much to see. Famagusta is great and the Karpasia peninsular interesting, especially the wild donkeys, but it is a very long way. The best places to go are St Hillarion if you are able to climb up many many steps- fantastic views and Bellapais which is an absolutely beautiful monastery. There is a restaurant in the courtyard and if you eat there in the evening the monastery is lit up and you are surrounded by the mountains and sweeping vistas down to the sea. A real must if you are staying in the area. Nicosia is also interesting and if you take your passport you can walk through to South Cyprus. If you do that then go round the back of Debenhams and go into the observatory which will give you amazing views of bothe the north and the south of the divided city. If you are interested in history then Salamis and St Barnabas church are worth a visit and can be combined easily with a trip to Famagusta.

Room Tip: Choose Pine Court building with a sea view - fourth to sixth floor

Thank you for your comments ı welcome your comments as we are always looking at ways to improve. I am pleased that overall you enjoyed the facilities and the hotel service. We are dissapointed to hear that the restaurant was not to your expectations, I have passed your comments onto the Food & Beverage Manager and he has I know, already had several coaching sessions again, with the staff and so we hope to improve the waiter service.
I agree it can be very busy at times especially if you cannot sit outside, and due to such strange weather conditions, which we have never experienced before in May this was not possible.
In Northern Cypurs all water is charged extra as the water from the taps although safe to drink is high in minerals and can cause an upset stomach.

I spent there one week 28.3.-4.4. It was a Groupon deal trip. I have never been interested in Holiday villages or resorts and was not happy to realize it was so huge. BUT I was wrong! After changing dark bungalow to Pine hotel the first night I started to enjoy. Hotel room was just fantastic! Big, clean, silent, nice furniture, the best bed I have ever had, better than my own. Nice balcon, pine wood view. Reception personal was very helpful, thank u all! Also I noticed everyone working in Acapulco were happy and seemed to respect both their work and customers. We we lucky to have European Championship Billiard games during our stay. It was really intersting. Also Persian New Year and their disco every night made this week unforgettable. Food (breakfast and dinner) was also tasty. Have no negative comments except I didn't like bungalows.

Room Tip: Bungalows look good outside but they are dark.

We have just come back from Acapulco last week and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The food was delicious, lots of choices for vegetarians and non-vegetarians.. There is a heated swimming pool indoors which really helped when the weather wasn't very hot. The sea is clean and beautiful. The hotel is huge, clean and the staff are friendly. However I wish the reception staff would speak more English especially at the pine court. The only thing which disappointed me was being a five star hotel they charge for wifi. They do a fantastic job on spa treatment and on Tuesday they have special offer for ladies which was excellent. The evening entertainment can be bit boring and they should have more varieties.

Room Tip: Sea view room

Thank you for your kind review I am happy to learn that you and your family enjoyed your holiday at the Acapulco. We have recently started English lessons at the hotel for all the staff and we hope that this will improve the services in all areas. It would be nice if you could visit in the high season as our entertainment team has now arrived and they have many activities and events arranged for the daytime and evening.
