“Stunning Castle and Garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

Stunning experience were you can see how the garden and castle where supposed to look like together, when they were created in the 17th century. Perhaps not the most child-friendly but anyone with an interest in history or art can easily spend a full day here. If you can choose the day of your visit try to visit at Thursdays when they have an organ concert. You will be treated with an expose of music from about 1600 till present day. Or visit their website for more information about organ concerts.

The garden gives a depth to the experience and you can stroll around admiring the view of the castle or the neatly trimmed buxwood in knot-like patterns. The castle island shields you from today’s world so you can enjoy a glimpse of the past.

“Copenhagen – Strömma Castle Tour Combo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

During our recent stay in Copenhagen, we had an opportunity to take a 6 ½ hour Castle Tour with Strömma Tour Company. Initially, there was a little confusion on meeting the tour as the website is not clear. After contacting the company, we were informed to meet the bus at 10:15 by the Town Hall in Copenhagen at the specified time. The tour included a visit with entrance to Kronborg Castle, a visit to Fredensborg Castle and a visit with entrance to Frederiksborg Castle. Kronborg Castle, which is the setting of Shakespeare’s play “Hamlet” was an hour or so ride through Copenhagen and some beautiful countryside on a comfortable bus. The English speaking guide was knowledgeable and very informative as we rode along. After a short walk from the bus, we entered the castle for the guided tour. The castle itself was pretty barren having been captured several times during its history. Even without all of the fixing you normally find in a historical castle, it was still an interesting place to visit. After leaving Kronborg Castle, we journeyed to Fredensborg Castle. It is one of the summer residences of the Royal Couple, HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary. The tour did not include entrance to the castle, but we did arrive in time to see the changing of the guard which was worth the stop. Following this stop, we visited Frederiksborg Castle. But before entering the castle, we were given the opportunity to get a bite to eat if we wanted (not included in price of the ticket.) Following the late lunch, we entered Frederiksborg Castle for the included tour. There is a lot to see in the castle and several more hours could be spent there if you want to do it on your own. With another relaxing ride through the countryside, we returned to the square in front of Town Hall in Copenhagen at about 17:00. Overall I would rate this tour was well worth the money and good if you are only making a short visit to Copenhagen.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

This is a beautiful castle and still has all the furnishings inside. I liked it much more than Hamlet's castle in Helsingor as that one is very bare inside. The best part in my opinion was the chapel, it is stunning. There are small signs to direct you from the train station, a 15-20min walk. If you are taking a day trip then purchase an all day, all zone ticket as it is much cheaper than purchasing separate one way tickets. The audioguide is included in the price and is also on iTunes, you can download it using the free wifi in the castle lobby, or they will lend you an iPod touch. I definitely recommend this castle, very beautiful inside.

“Beautiful castle and lovely gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

Spent half a day here as part of a Copengahen city break. The castle is 15-20 minutes walk from Hillerød station (S-tog Line E from Copenhagen central). If one does not mind, it is a pretty nice walk through the average Danish neighbourhood on a sunny day. The staff was friendly (was happy to accept my 1000DKK note as I didn’t have any smaller denominated notes on my first day). Lockers are available for a refundable deposit of 20DKK. The castle itself is quite big – I find the church and the ballroom particularly spectacular. One is also free to walk around the gardens and the lake, which is the perfect place to appreciate the castle from the outside. A recommended short excursion from Copenhagen centre!

“Beautiful castle and museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

This is a castle funded by the owner of Carlsberg, J.C. Jacobsen.

Part of the castle's architecture was destroyed during the war, but has been well reconstructed to ensure that the original structure and look and feel of the castle interiors and exteriors are preserved. The castle is also a national museum with royal Danish artifacts dating back to the 15th century. But due to the war between the Danes and Swedes, quite a number of these original artifacts reside with the Swedish, while the castle holds the replicas.

We had a guide which offered a quick and concise run down of the main rooms, halls, paintings and artifacts found in the castle. A great history lesson.

Another highlight is a chapel inside the castle which has one of the first oldest air organ in the world. Inside the chapel, one could see the crests made for every Danish royalty, but also crests made for key dignitaries of the world. One of my favourite is one made for Nelson Mandela for his Apartheid work.

Outside the castle is the Frederiksborg Garden which merges the design of the British and French designs, reminds you a little of the Versailles. Didn't manage to walk around the gardens as it wasn't included in the tour.
