“great location, great atmosphere, not clean.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

I stayed at this hostel for 2 nights at the end of December, 2013.

If location is most important to you on your hostel search, this hostel is centrally located and an easy walk to all the touristy parts of Copenhagen. Copenhagen is rather small, though, so that may not be of utmost importance.

Atmosphere-wise, I was also impressed. Reading that there was a bar on the ground floor, I was a bit scared it would be too much of a party atmosphere (and it was indeed always bustling), but it always felt more cozy than crazy. The mix of people was diverse with a variety of age groups represented, which was also great. My room was on the 2nd floor, so with earplugs I was not bothered by the noise, but I imagine that if you had a room on the 1st floor it might be very noisy.

I did have an issue with the cleanliness of this hostel, though. Having stayed in a lot of Hosteling International hostels before, I usually trust them, but I felt a bit gross here. There was a chewed up piece of gum stuck to my bed frame, and the bathroom was always dirty. It wasn't intolerable but it did bother me.

The dorm bathroom facilities themselves were also disappointing. Each floor had 2 toilets only, one that was combined with a shower and so was pretty gross, and 2 showers (again, one being combined with a toilet). I often had to wait to use the toilet or shower.

My room was small and did not have lockers or chairs, just one small fold-up desk. The website says that free WiFi is available, but that is only in the lounge. They will give you 12 hours of free in-room WiFi if you like them on Facebook, but the rest of the time there is no WiFi in the rooms.
One nice thing is that they rent iPads for use in the lounge.

In terms of meals, it was a mixed bag. They offer a 65 Kroner all you can eat breakfast which was billed as being a good deal (Copenhagen is very expensive). The breakfast consisted of bread, cheese, cereal, fruit, and deli meat, with coffee and juice. Walking around town, I saw comparably priced breakfast packages that included eggs and felt more like meals, so I'm not sure eating breakfast at the hostel is the best value. The advantage is that it's "all you can eat," so if you are a person who eats a lot or wants to fill up on breakfast and skip lunch, it might be worth it.

I ate 2 dinners at the hostel, the first I paid 50 Kroner for and it was definitely not worth it (it was mostly Danish food, pieces of pickled fish and deli meats with bread, nothing warm). The second night they offered a free dinner with purchase of a drink (you have to sit one of 2 tables for that, so get there early to save a seat), which was chili con carne and actually quite good (but there was no vegetarian option).

It is definitely worth it to buy drinks at the bar, they are cheap compared to the rest of the city and happy hour (8-9pm) is buy one get one half off.

To summarize, if your primary hostel objectives are to be in the center of the city and to socialize, this place is great. If cleanliness and facilities, peace and quiet, or included meals are important to you, I would try another place.

Room Tip: Go higher than the first floor if you want quiet.

I have arrived to Copenhagen after an interesting but exhausting journey, and unfortunately, that was a day of completely bad luck. I do not remember the names of employees, but still grateful to the girls who have worked in that night, they have concerned with great understanding to problems I had that moment. Thank you for your kindness!
In relation to other aspects of the hostel, accessibility, diversity and the atmosphere is really commendable, different zones in the main hall created through materials, lighting and invites to mingling and so on. At the same time, the cleanliness was not so good (bathrooms in the dorms). However, this largely depends on the guests, I suppose

Convenient location, right in the middle of the city, next to major shops and a 5-minute walk to museums and Tivoli Gardens. Staff were pleasant. Rooms were clean but tiny. Warm showers and good pressure, always a bonus in the freezing temperatures! Free wifi, but only in the reception/bar area which is a bit poo! Other downsides, not enough toilets/showers for the number of people on our floor, had to wait a while which was a bit annoying. Was a bit noisy, could hear other people screaming in the stairs.

I love Copenhagen and this place made it even better! The atmosphere is incredible- free dinner to encourage mingling as well as having to come down stairs for wifi! Genius idea!!! I'm all for encouraging the interaction. The staff were lovely and went above and beyond! The hostel is in an amazing location for everything meaning I couldn't speak highly enough of the place!

This is a massive hostel, that lacks any personal touch and is all in all a litte dated. There are too many beds per room, which gives the place a crowded feeling. The bed-allocation system they use is not flawless; as I entered my room one night I suddenly found my bed being occupied by someone else. The staff was not very pro-active in solving this situation, which was at least a little disappointing. There is also a lack of bathrooms/toilets compared to guests. The plus side is the great lounge/bar aera downstairs, though the staff is a little reserved. For the same price there are more convenient hostels in Copenhagen.

I stayed here the last week of November with my mother for a short break before my birthday.

The staff I cannot fault them, they are friendly, helpful and they gave great service.

There was a free meal in the evening for the first 25 people, which was a great help considering some of the high prices that are around the Danish capital, breakfast was all-you-can-eat for 65kr (around £7) which was consisted of your typical continental type of food (meats, cheeses, cereals etc), I would make a couple of sandwiches to take out with me for lunch, so that's a bit of tip there.

The hostel is within walking distance of the main shopping street and most of the attractions and also a short walk away from the metro station to the airport.

Myself and my mother stayed in a twin room (room 104) that faced the street, it was a small room with a bunk bed, a fold down table and a couple of chairs and an en-suite bathroom.

The room itself was clean and the beds and bedding were extremely comfy which kept us warm during the cold Danish weather.

My main faults with the hostel was with the bathroom, it's a small wet room with the shower head very close to toilet, so the toilet would always be wet after a shower, I think some of the space in the room could have been sacrificed to make a slightly bigger bathroom. Although it didn't affect my sleep during the night, but often in the evening the hostel would be really noisy, either in the hallways or in the bar/ reception area. Particularly in the morning, I would be woken quite early (6-7:30am) by the sound of deliver and rubbish trucks directly outside on the street.

I would certainly stay in the hostel again, however I would ask for a room that wasn't facing the street.

Stayed November 2013

The hostel is in a really good place near the train station. It is small but comfortable with a very good stuff. If you are travelling with friends and don't want to spend a lot of money this hostel is the best place to stay.
