Description: You will find Peder Oxe at Graabroedretorv, in the heart of old town Copenhagen. The restaurant serves the very best beef from free range cattle and you will also find fresh fish, shellfish, lamb and game on the menu. At lunchtime the Danish classic ‘smorrebrod’ (open faced sandwich) is served and here the guests have the possibility of choosing exactly the pieces of smørrebrød they desire. The menu is adjusted according to the changing seasons.

“Good restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

We had dinner here primarily because we had read that it served the best duck in Copenhagen.
One of us ordered the duck and was told it was prepared the traditional Danish way which was baked. It was very good, but not memorable. the wait staff (only female from what we saw) were warm and professional.
What stood out from the meal was the rice pudding dessert, which was one of the best we had eaten.

“Certificate of Excellence 2013? Wait a minute!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

Like previous reviewer, we too, a group of 10 booked a table a month or so in advance. OK, our table was big enough, round and we were fine with its location.

Same water issue here, first several bottles of outrageously overpriced bottled water before miraculously regular tap water in clear bottles started appearing on our table (tap water is safe to drink in Denmark).

Service seemed somewhat disorganized and even though upon booking it was specified that one in our party had special dietary requirements due to allergies the kitchen and serving personnel seemed oblivious of this fairly important detail. Even though dishes with special requirements were specified at time of booking it took a while to get the right food and basically ruined the evening as 'special meal' main course appeared about the time when regular main courses were almost finished. The special dietary requirement dessert offered in advance sounded nice, what came on the table looked like a bad joke certainly not meant for human consumption.

Regular food? Lobster soup sounded nice, but I don't know, was it frying or flambéing that went wrong - it tasted burned. "Oxe-steak" - serving personnel asked each and one how we would like our beef - that was promising. The result was well, not exactly as expected, have had better beef at unpretentious pubs in the middle of nowhere. Presentation of food was poor, either they had too much to do in the kitchen or they didn't really know what they were doing. And the sauce! That was not exactly what is "oksesky" in my book, and this too had an element of burned in its 'bouquet' of flavours.
Salad, probably for our own good never made its way to the table.
Chocolate cake, I am not an expert, but it seemed to float. Left unattended /uneaten it probably would have ended up like a puddle on the plate, and it was way too fatty for my taste.

All in all there ought to be better establishments in the same price range in Copenhagen. This was my first and last time at this restaurant.

“Bad service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013 via mobile

You would think that if one book a table more than one month prior to the visit and ask for a table close to the window you would get such a table... But instead we got a table squeezed in with view in the wall for one of us and when we asked to change the waiter went quite unfriendly.
We asked for regular still water and got a very expensive Italian bottle together with our wine and when I aksed the waiter whys he did not bring just a caraffe of tap water she answered "uou did not ask for that"...
We had a desent hamburger which was not more than just that, and did not bother with any desert or coffee... And no tip!

“Hard to find a better venison steak!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

We had heard about this restaurant and found it worth the effort to track it down. Good food at a reasonable price. Luckily for us we ate early and were able to get a seat. I recommend making reservations if you are eating later in the evening. At 5pm the restaurant was already almost full. By the time we left no one was getting in without a reservation.

Very nice and simple danish food. Great service, even though they were extreemly buisy. Very cosy and autentic place.
