Had a really nice evening at "Kanalen". Had tried this restaurant a few years ago and tonight was a culinary experience to remember. It all started really well. I mentioned that I had booked a table for 2 at 18:00 and the waitress called me by my name without evening looking at her book.
The evening sun had heated the place quite a bit so we opened the windows facing the wonderful canals of Christianhavn (one of the oldest parts of copenhagen, definitely worth a visit) but this was not enough to cool down. We therefore asked to sit outside even though the tables were not laid out. Nothing was a problem and we were moved to the terrace with a smile.
We started with some fish then a juicy steak both served with fresh and delicate danish vegetables of the season. Both waitresses were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about what was on the menu.
Then arrived the difficult task of choosing between two mouth watering deserts: a chocolate desert (chocolate mousse, sorbet, dark and white chocolate crumbles with a chocolate meringue) and the strawberry "salad" with cress and a liquorice mousse. My colleague wanted the chocolate desert and a taste of the liquorice mousse... so the chef made us both a mini Strawberry salad to taste not only the liquorice mousse but the entire taste experience.... this was a very long time since I experienced a restaurant that would go this extra mile to please a client without even charging extra. I don't suppose that they can do this for everyone visiting. It was a rather quite evening but a fantastic gesture and an evening to remember.
PS: they also have a menu with between 3 and 6 dishes at more "reasonable" prices.
