“Absolutely one of the best hotels Copenhagen has to offer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2010

We stayed at the Copenhagen Island Hotel for two nights in August 09 (two nights after our wedding) and we also stayed at the hotel when I proposed (New Years Eve). The first time I didn't tell the staff anything about the proposal, but oddly enough we received a complimentary box of heart shaped chocolates from the Hotel and when we asked some of the other guest if they received one, we were told they didn't, so that was a great little touch. The second time we stayed there, they knew we were getting married and they were very helpful to both us and those of our guests who stayed there as well - we held the wedding on the other side of the harbor so the location couldn't be better for us, but there is a good 10-15 minutes walk to the city center of Copenhagen.

Make sure to book an executive room at the end of one of the two the wings as you'll then have a lot better view. You can book a city or harbor view and I recommend the harbor view.

The included breakfast is also spotless, very fresh and the staff was very helpful and joked around - especially the first time we were there. It's all the small things that makes a difference and Copenhagen Island do have a lot of those twists making it very enjoyable to stay there.

Extra: The hotel is located just next to the biggest shopping center in central Copenhagen and therefore you'll never run out of opportunities to shop till you drop or just have a coffee in one of the many cafes.

It is also very close to a S-train station, and from there it takes 1-2 minutes and then you're in the city center.

Finally it's very close to The Mariott, so if you're traveling as a group and if either one of the hotels is booked it's very convenient to try out the other one.

I have stayed at the Copenhagen Island a number of times, and I really quite like the hotel, its very stylish and modern. Over a period of a year I have had around 20 stays at this hotel, and I did not have one single bad experience in this period.

The rooms are designed in a very modern, very minimalistic style. Some rooms look like standard hotel rooms in size, and others will have a oblique ceiling. The rooms are in general large (compared to scandinavian rooms) and bright, all rooms have 322 inch flatscreen tv's.

The internet connection is free, but if you want to go wireless you might have some problems, I strongly recommend that you bring a netword cable.

There is parking in front of the hotel and in a parking cellar, the front is usually occupied, but there is almost alway room in the cellar. If no space is available, the mall next door 100 meters/yards away has plenty of parking space. Parking is as far as I remember not free.

The gym is placed in one of the upper floors, and has a great view over the waterfront.

I did not use the restaurant while there, as the mall next door has plenty of descent restaurants, and I rarely eat at hotels if I can avoid it.

Not much else to say, one of the best value for money places in Copenhagen if you ask me.

You can expect a nice and peacefull place. Located next to a shopping centre with a lot of places to eat. Excellent for business travellers.

This is a nice, modern hotel in a beautiful location. We hired pushbikes from the hotel and cycled into town (15 mins) along the water every day....absolutely beautiful. They have full length windows that have amazing views over the water, really nice to wake up to.

Copenhagen Island Hotel is an ultramodern hotel on the water, close to the Copenhagen City Center. The room are tiny, but fairly well appointed - the beds are comfortable. A group of 15 of us stayed there for 12 days in December, and it was not a pleasant experience. The staff ranged from indifferent to outright hostile. The answer to ANY special request (i.e. can we stay at the this table after the bar closes? Can I check out one hour late? Do you have any shoe shine supplies? Can I have a converted plug for my room?) was invariably "No". The restaurant manager treated me to the following exchange one evening: "I need your room number. Actually, I know your room number, but I want you to come over to this desk and tell it to me again, No, not from your table, stand up and tell me the number at my desk." The front desk staff was only capable of dealing with reservation isues from 8-4 - the night staff was not trained to do anything but give out keys. The whole athmosphere was impersonal , surly, sullen. A lesson in how not to run a welcoming hotel.

It all depends on what you're looking for! Stayed for two nights at the Island Hotel before Xmas 09. There's not that much to say about the hotel itself. Rooms are spotless but somehow quite small. The deco is modern, all glass and stell which makes it a bit cold (even colder in freezing Copenhagen in December)!

This is the typical touristy/business hotel where you have what you paid for and nothing else.

The location is not ideal. Bit far from the city center knowing that you do pretty much everything by walking in Copenhagen. However there is a train stop that brings you in 5/10min to all points of interest (but is that what you want in CPH?)

If you're looking for smtg outside the box, smtg more secret then pass your way. Otherwise it's a fairly good hotel in super expensive Copenhagen.

This is a design hotel, but the design is cold as ice. Pure concrete, steel, glass. Rectangles everywhere. Rooms are small and details are not very functional. Often things did not work and needed repair. Generally service was poor for the high price.
