“Stylish and modern, rooms are a little compact”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for 8 nights recently. It is a very nice, stylish, modern hotel, quite recently built (2006?). Staff at check in were polite and friendly. Our room was a standard double, it was well furnished, nice lighting, fittings, etc. but a little small (eg. small closet, no draws in the desk, a squeeze for two larger suitcases. The bathroom was also well-appointed, but our showerhead was leaking a little. Copenhagen hotels are expensive, so Copenhagen Island is reasonable value for money in comparison to some.
Location was reasonably good - near the habour and the sea - and is next to a large mall. We didnt eat at the restuarant as it was a bit pricey (375DKK for a 3 course dinner and 150DKK for breakfast). One point is that there isnt a proper separate bar or lounge area, although there is plush seating near reception.
One niggle was that if you're a late riser, housekeeping staff dont come back to make up your room - we only had our room tidied 3 times during the whole stay - not ideal. Also, it would be nice if tea and coffee facilities were as standard in the rooms, we had to ask for a kettle, and didnt get any cups (actually, dont all 4 star hotels need to provide this?).
But all-in-all we had a pleasant stay and enjoyed ourselves, the location was quiet and the station for the s-tog trains to the centre (only a couple of stops away) are a only few hundred meters away, but over a rather unsightly bridge and railway line.

We are very happy to read your comments on your stay at our hotel. You can always buy an upgrade to a superior room for only DKK 200.00 extra per night if you would like a bigger room with a harbour view. Our standard rooms are a little smaller and have city view. .
We are happy to bring a kettle to your room, but it is only a standard item in our executive rooms and junior suites.
As for cleaning of the rooms while you stay here, our housekeeping staff are trained to respect the do not disturb sign and if the sign is still on the door in the afternoon, they will put fresh towels etc. outside your door.
On our web page we offer deals with or without breakfast. You are also welcome to call us directly if we have the chance of welcoming you back.
Once again thank you for the valuable feedback

I wasn't happy with price/quality of rooms @ glostrup park hotel so looked to other location when I stay in CPH. Copenhagen Island hotel is of a group of hotels and you feel that. Extra charge during dinner. A little arrogant. Swedish lobster on menu is nothing more than a scrimp looking like a lobster... Other fish was raw. During breakfast the real coffee was charged extra. I would give quality of bed 3/10, rooms are nice, clean.

I will search further for our people to stay when they are at our HQ in glostrup.

Thank you for your review and thank you for staying at our hotel. We are a part of the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group and Copenhagen Island Hotel was built in 2006. We are glad to hear that you chose our hotel and liked our rooms. but on the other hand we are very sorry to hear that the quality of the food was not satisfactory. We hope that you spoke to the waiter on duty about your food. It is correct that we charge extra for café latte etc. If you are ever in Copenhagen again, you are most welcome to try our hotel again, as we would like to welcome you back.

I am a weary traveller from North America who is currently working and living out of Copenhagen hotels. I can tell you without a doubt that this hotel has been the best value of the several I have already stayed at. Yes, it is one stop further way from the city but you don't get the nasty smell of sewage or the thundering noise of the trains as you do in the other hotels. I take the train every morning to get to work and it is easy and convenient walk to the station and the rest of Copenhagen.

The atmosphere and furnishings are new and the hotel quite clean, again quite different from the other hotels I've stayed in. The room is much larger and I was able to get a harbour view, which is pure heaven in the morning. I did need the bed board because of the soft beds but the staff were very polite and helpful, immediately responding to my request. The meals I have had in the restaurant have been very good and when I want something cheap and quick, the mall is perfect place to get groceries or fast food. My only wish would be for a larger blackout curtain but overall, I am very pleased with the hotel, the rooms, and staff!

We just stayed here in an executive room. Staff friendly! They are pretty small, but the feeling in the room is nice, particular with the balcony. Bathroom with tub. From the balcony you see "Islands brygge". In the summer this place is packed with people taking a swim and enjoying the sunshine. Probably should not stay in these rooms if you want a quiet time.

Right next to the hotel the big Fisketorget mall is, here you can find clothes and grocerys!

The hotel is a little bit outside of the centre (ströget) but pretty close if you enjoy vesterbro with bars and restaurants like we do. I recommend to rent bycikles. No need for a car at all ( if you're not to lazy) , takes 15 min to reach Huvudbangården by foot ( train station) and around 5 min extra to reach Ströget (shopping street).

The real downside for us at the hotel was breakfast. It looks good but the quality is really bad for a hotel with 4 stars. Coffe was probably the worst I have ever had and I have been traveling a lot. Asked to exchange it, and they did but brought me the same (Tasted like water). So my advice is to eat breakfast somewhere else (you have bakerys in the mall next by). No vegetables to put on a sandwich, and no fresh juices. We got it included, but they charge 150 DKK for it - crazy!

So stay here if you enjoy seaside, looking at people in the summer and dont mind to walk a little in to the city. Beautiful surroundings but breakfast needs update!

Thank you for your comments on your stay with us. We are glad to hear that you liked staying in our executive rooms with balcony and harbour view. The harbour swim attracts a number of people and has become a very popular attraction in Copenhagen. We think that activities in the harbour make the view even more spectacular. We are sorry to hear that you did not approve of our coffee. We do offer fresh fruit in stead of vegetables for breakfast. We will of cause forward your comments on our breakfast to the manager in charge of this department.
Looking forward to seeing you again.

Just been to Copenhagen for the first time and stayed at this fabulous hotel. Newly built and in a pristine condition. Could not fault the facilities at all. Bedrooms comfortable and clean. The restaurant facilities very good - fantastic choice of breakfast. Evening meal a little restricted. The location of the hotel is just outside the city centre but only a few minutes walk to excellent bus and train services. There was no noise from traffic and easy access from airport. Excellent value for money and I would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: All rooms are okay.

The hotel options in Copenhagen area poor in general and the Island is not particularly better or worse than the average hotel in Copenhagen. Given the distance from downtown, I would suggest that the Marriott and Scandic Front are better options.

I had a Superior water facing room. It had two very tiny beds pushed immediately next to each other. The tiny bed was reasonably comfortable. The pillow was small and square and filled with foam, not down or feathers.

While small, the space in the room is used efficiently and there was also a small sofa and a desk and chair. The floor to ceiling doors were nice and provided fresh air as well as a good view of the water.

I was only one floor above ground level and there was quite a bit of noise. I am not particularly sensitive to noise and I was bothered by it. A noise sensitive colleague in a room on a higher floor reported hearing no noise. Also, the room was exposed to direct morning sun so the room was very light, very very early.

The bathroom is small but well lit. The hairdryer is attached to the wall but works pretty well. Typical of other local hotels, There is a combination bath gel / shampoo liquid provided but no conditioner. The towels are very soft but somewhat small. The only real complaint I have about the bathroom is the shower. The showerhead is not fixed to the wall. It is attached to a hose at the bath spigot and then sits in a holder attached to the wall. Because of the hose, it was impossible to make the showerhead face directly forward - either it was spraying water at the wall or at the glass shower guard.

The hotel is about a 30 minute walk from downtown which isn't terrible but it's annoying to have to call a taxi every time one wants to leave the hotel. The taxis do come very, very quickly once called and the trip to the airport is only 15 minutes which is convenient for early morning flights. There is also a mall next door with lots of places to eat and shop.

The breakfast is good relative to the competitors.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: The low floors are noisy so try to get a high floor.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your extensive review on Copenhagen Island Hotel. We appreciate your comments and would like to add the following comments to your email: As we are only 200 metres from the Marriott Hotel, we do not think that we are that much further away from the city centre. If you do not want to take a taxi or walk to the centre of town, it is possible to take bus 30 or bus 11A. Then you will be at the Central Station in 5 minutes.

Regarding our superior rooms they are 22 square metres and our single beds measure 80 cm x 2 metres. You had a room where two such beds were pushed together. We also offer rooms with double beds and they measure 160 cm x 2 metres.

Had we known that you would have preferred a room on a higher floor, we would gladly have moved you to another room on a higher floor. We can recommend that you always contact the reception if you have any requests.
We are very glad to hear that your overall impression of our hotel and staff was positive. Thank you very much for your feedback. We hope to welcome you back another time.

The bathroom & the location is good with a nice view. If you are keen on cycling you must use the hotels one to go all over the city & across the canal.

In general everything are balanced to be a 3/4 stars hotel.

But never, ever try to eat anything solid there. I guess because the hotel is neighbor to a large mall, so it just does not work the kitchen and outbuildings as well as they probably should have been designed for.

My husband and I unfortunately fall into the mistake of asking the room service. The food came just in time, but it was not fresh at all, since the brie's soft white layer came with a yellow cover brokened instead. The yogurt was smelling too. If the person responsible may miss seeing the date on the package, is actually trained to notice these vital errors in food. Its make me thought that they already do as practice. I let my experience review in the lobby, a rapid response was given, but no flattery was used as a way of apology.
I'll never stay there again.

Room Tip: Rent hotel cycle. Eat at the shopping or buy to eat at the room.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your comments on your stay with us. We are glad to hear that you liked your room and harbour view. The area in which we are located is a business area and our neighbour is a shopping mall with many shops, restaurants and a cinema. We are very sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the room service menu. We have a professional kitchen and waiter staff and we pay daily attention to expiry dates on all food and beverage items. This is certainly not our usual level of service. We are sorry to realize that this negative episode has made you decide not to stay here again. We do hope, you will change you mind and we hope to see you here again.
