“Perfect location for exploring Copenhagen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Stayed here as part of a two centre break in Copenhagen, Denmark. This hotel is directly opposite Tivoli Gardens and just round the corner from the Hard Rock Cafe. The staff are friendly and professional. The hotel is clean and a very typical Danish hotel, would strongly recommend booking the breakfast as well. Going through various sites will get you the breakfast included option cheaper than at the hotel. Brilliantly 5mins walk from the station and a 10minute walk from Car Hire facilities also only 10mins from the IceBar and Puk Restaurant.

What do you expect from a 3* hotel....is what you get. Small functional room with clean basic amenities. No Aircon, but you get a table fan. The central location makes it so much easier. Reception staff were polite and helpful to me for the three days that I spent there. Free wifi. Good value overall.

We stayed three nights at the Hotel Alexandra and really location wise it cannot be bettered in my opinion. It is very close to the Tivoli gardens which were sadly closed during our stay (Check before you book) You can easily get to anywhere in Copenhagen from this hotel. The room was very plain but had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Comfy beds...lots of hot water...TV...free WiFi....tea and coffee. It is not the best room I have had but is a long way from the worst and it was all very clean. The staff on reception was amazing. They spoke perfect English and were so pleasant each time we spoke to them. Copenhagen is a very expensive place to visit but this hotel is good value.

Room Tip: The themed rooms were more expensive than the standard rooms and we did not think they were better t...

In a city known for being high-priced, the Hotel Alexandra was a lovely experience at a great price.

Highlights:
* The staff at the front desk were pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable, and spoke flawless English. The young man who checked us in (Jasper?) spoke English so well I was convinced he had spent significant time in the U.S., but he was just a talented linguist. When we needed help finding a restaurant or getting tickets to a local attraction, they were always ready to help.
* The lobby, hallways, restaurant, and room were clean, nicely decorated, and well-maintained.
* The beds and pillows were soft and comfy.
* The location is ideal: two blocks from Tivoli Gardens, three blocks from the main shopping district, and close to many good restaurants and attractions.
* The breakfast buffet was really delicious and satisfied the needs of both our American tastes and those of our Swedish friends traveling with us. Not always easy to do!
* Everything in the room and bathroom worked well, including all the outlets, the fixtures, and even the towel warmer :)

A few downsides:
* While the size of the room was perfectly adequate, and probably above average by European hotel standards, my husband and I found it a little cramped. No place to position our suitcases other than on the floor where we had to step over them to get around, and no drawer space to put things away, so we had to rely on the suitcases as storage, rather than being able to unpack.
* The traffic noise was loud outside our window, so we had to keep it closed at night to sleep rather than leaving it open a crack for ventilation. However when the window was closed, the noise was greatly muted.
* No air/heat so the window was the only source of temperature control. It worked out OK for us as we were there during temperate fall weather, but might not be great in heat or cold temperatures.

Tips:
* The breakfast buffet costs about $19 (110KR) and comes included with some room rates, but not all. We booked through an online site that gave us a discounted rate, but did not include breakfast. Be sure to compare any discounts to make sure they're worth giving up that breakfast cost. For us it meant nearly $40 per night extra, which may not have been a good trade. We tried having breakfast elsewhere one morning, but paid nearly the same amount for a vastly less satisfying meal.
* The hotel will reimburse you 100KR a day per room in restaurant vouchers if you forgo room cleaning. They will still give you clean towels and toiletries, but they won't clean or make the beds. For us this seemed like a good deal as we were only there for three nights. However, the vouchers cannot be used for breakfast, which was really the only meal we were interested in eating at their restaurant. We used the vouchers on the last night for dinner, and the Thai food was OK, but not great. If you want the vouchers, you ask for them each morning.
* The parking, which cost 150KR per day, was about a block away in an underground garage. They don't park the car for you, and the spaces are tight. We were in a Volvo station wagon which was a tight squeeze.
* If you plan to go to Tivoli, buy your tickets at the hotel desk. It will save you about 20KR per ticket.
* There was a small but nicely appointed conference room off the lobby. I would say it would comfortably hold up to 8 people. However there did not seem to be a way to close it off from the lobby, though perhaps there was a screen or pocket door I missed.

Overall I would highly recommend the Hotel Alexandra. It was a great value and a really nice experience.

The hotel was a relatively short, level walk from the railway station. Staff were friendly and helpful. Out twin room was adequate although the bathroom was very small indeed. There was quite a lot of traffic noise. The hotel proved to be an excellent choice for its location, within a short walk of most of the major sights of Copenhagen.

and a charming place where I spent one night. My room was a delight on a side street so I heard no noise even with the windows open. View is very nice. This is a real retro gem, even lovely chairs in the hallways and the reception staff is so helpful and professional. I had an inexpensive (for Copenhagen) dinner in the adjacent restaurant and a very full and also delicious breakfast buffet. The dinner was a sushi, very fresh and with low sodium soy sauce. By the way, I arrived in Copenhagen from USA about 10:30 am and took taxi to hotel where I was fortunately able to check in early - dropped the luggage and went sightseeing. The room keys are one of a kind!!!

Room Tip: ask for a side street room

2013 Was the year where we brought half of our rooms back to the 50's. We decorated the rooms with furniture, wallpapers, lamps and textiles like the design loving Danes did in the 50's. 2014 Is the time for moving ahead. In early March we ended the renovation of the last rooms and they will be decorated just as the design loving Danes did it in the 60's.
