Had seen this landmark during a boat trip round the harbour, and could not believe it was possible to climb up the OUTSIDE! Not for the faint-hearted or infirm, but well worth the climb for the fantastic views. First a fairly conventional climb up the inside to the main balcony, then the opportunity to proceed up shallow copper coated steps, spiralling almost to the summit, and getting narrower all the way. Make sure you leave plenty of room for the people above you to turn round and come back!
Refreshing to find that you were not closed in with safety cages, but trusted not to lean too far over the bannisters.
