“Time travel back to the old days”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

This museum has a collection of many different houses from olden Denmark as well as areas nearby such as Sweden and Norway. The homes are furnished like they would've been back then and you can walk through most of the houses! It is an open air museum so I would recommend going on a sunny day. Many families come out and have picnics here.

“Lovely place north of Copenhagen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Want to see old days Denmark? This is a great way to experience how life was in Scandinavia hundred of years ago. This is a large area with lots of houses to explore so do bring your picnic basket and the entire family for a lovely day out!

“Excellent on a sunny day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

For the fans of medieval architecture, this is an excellent visit, particularly on a sunny day. Free entry, and you don't have to buy the map as the buildings are described in Danish and English on a plaque in front of each of them. How long you spend depends on how much you like medieval buildings, and whether you want to stop for a meal/picnic or not. Can get busy with school children when the schools are in.

It's quite a large site, so would recommend you bring decent shoes for walking.

If you're a keen cyclist, and you hire a decent bike, you can cycle there in under an hour on the excellent cycle paths (as long as you have a map/GPS with you as I did). Would recommend most people use public transport though.

“Relaxing, soothing day out from the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

There's a bus right to it, or the s train gets you within a short walk. Signage is in Danish and English, so you can get by without the book if you speak one of those. Food concessions available, but limited, so a picnic would be lovely. A working water mill sells flour from grains grown on the property! Very laid back. I suspect you need to really like old buildings, like we do, to have a super-duper time like we did.

Not very wheelchair accessible. Dirt paths and 18th century buildings and all.

“Frilandsmuseet i Lyngby”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

The place gives a very good insight into life in the good old days. Recreation/reconstruction of the old farms and their settings were done very well.
