“Good, comfortable, albeit basic, hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

This is a hotel next to the main train station.
In this sense it is perfect for catching a train and travelling anywhere in the country.
Also when you arrive with all your luggage you won't have far to travel to get to your hotel; only about five minutes.

Please note, although Copenhagen has metro, the nearest metro stop from this hotel is about 20 minutes away (on foot). So, don't relay on this.

Hotel is overall clean, tidy, and rooms decent and spacious. Cleaners attend to the rooms every day although sometimes they seem to forget to add more toilet paper or coffee sachets.

Breakfast is also good with a reasonable variety; no English breakfast though, so if you had that in mind you will be disappointed. They have a good variety of different types of ham, hard boiled and soft boiled eggs, wonderfull bread (several different types), cereals, only one type of cheese, excellent strong coffee (really strong), juice and drinking yogurt that you could pour over your cereals, and finally some fruits too. That's about it. Again, rather basic, but very decent indeed.

Hotel has wifi and it is Free. The speed is very good, although there were one or two times when it just stopped working for a few minutes. Not a major problem though.

Tivoli Gardens is opposite the train station, so about 7 minutes walking distance from hotel. Excellent.

If you are looking for something posh, avoid it. If you are looking for something basic but very decent go for it. Oh yes, there is no restaurant for lunch or dinner.

Well when I booked this I didn't realise it was slap bang in the middle of the red light district. Thankfully by all accounts its been largely cleaned up in recent years and doesnt impact negatively on the hotel.

Very friendly welcome and smooth check in. Helpful staff were able to provide free maps and accurate directions to local attractions.

Fairly small room, but spotlessly clean and everything in full working order.

Good selection at breakfast, with staff who were quick to clean tables and refresh dishes.

Enjoyable stay

Stayed for one night at Ansgar. I have nothing glowing to report, but nothing critical either. Great location for exploring the city with excellent proximity to Central Station and Tivoli with a pleasant fifteen minute stroll to the town hall/city centre.

Clean sheets, a comfortable stay, pleasant staff and nice decor means Ansgar ticks all the boxes and provides a great value stay in Copenhagen.

Tips:
1) Exit central station via the stairs to the street level (not via the main building) then turn right. You'll be at Ansgar in 4 minutes, avoiding road closures.
2) Book onto a free Copenhagen walking tour. A real highlight of our stay.
3) Check out Mother. A pizzeria in the trendy meat packing district of Vesterbro, five minutes walk and absolutely delicious.

Just spent 2 nights in this hotel. Short walk to Central Station as we only had small cases and it was only 3 stops on train to Airport. Lovely clean rooms, plenty of hot water and the thickest towels we have had for a long time. The rooms were small but fine for us as we were out most of the time. Staff were so helpful and gave us all the information we needed to make this a lovely break for us. Would definitely return again to this hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed on 4th floor and it was very quiet

An excellent hotel with clean tidy but smallish rooms. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast great value for money. The hotel is well placed for visiting the city centre. The hotel also offers bikes for hire for about £10 a day. The main station is also in the next street.

Hotel was good value for money and kept clean throughout our stay. Breakfast had a variety of food and the hotel had no problem with accommodating gluten free guests.
The hotel is a few minutes walk from Central Station so very close to all the main attractions.
The only minor complaint I would have is that the shower was part of a wet room and not the most convenient with toilet being part of it! Bearable for a few days.

I was traveling to Copenhagen for the weekend and I didn't want to spend a ton of money but I also wasn't going to stay in a hostel. The hotel room was small but clean, quiet, and close to the train station. The neighborhood, Vesterbro, was fun - great restaurants near by. You can rent bikes from the hotel for 50Dkk for 3 hours - which was the cheapest price I saw. Perfect home base for a weekend of exploring on foot and by bike!
