“Perfect location for a relaxing, romantic city break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

We spent 3 nights here in October 2014. The hotel is a perfect location to explore Copenhagen - close to the train station and Tivoli Gardens (highly recommended for Halloween); the furthest we walked was to the Little Mermaid which was c 60 minutes walk and Nytorv was less than 30 minutes walk. There is of course a metro stop close by however we chose to walk everywhere.

The hotel is lovely - modern yet authentic decor, relaxing cafe/lounge/bar area downstairs (with free coffee all day) and a small but relaxing spa (very nice to relax and warm up here in the winter months with face packs etc).

The rooms are also perfect - our room had a separate bedroom/entrance hallway/en suite with a small balcony looking into a court yard (I believe we had specifically asked for the court yard view as other TripAdvisor reviews had recommended it to avoid hearing street noise). The only thing was we did hear glasses being dumped into a bin one night but only once and didn't disturb us. The room was therefore quiet considering you are in the middle of a busy city (!) and has everything you need (hairdryer, toiletries etc) and you are also supplied with a bathrobe and slippers to go down to the spa in.

Some other reviews had noted the hotel being close to a strip club - there was one on the same street although we never really saw people going in or out and felt very safe walking around at night.

Overall, very relaxing peaceful hotel in a great location and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the court yard

We spent three nights at the Axel Guldsmeden in May 2014. The hotel itself is lovely. Our room was on the small side, by North American standards, but very comfortable and serviceable.

The location was perfect. Many attractions are a shot walk away And for those farther away, the train station is a short away. There are also some excellent restaurant choices close by.

Breakfast in the garden each day was delightful. It was disappointing that it wasn't made clear what the charges would be for the breakfast. We were charged for breakfast for each night we were there, even though we did not have breakfast there the last day. So be forewarned, there will be a charge.

The only other downside to this hotel was the night noises. We enjoy sleeping with our window open and we could hear the "color" of the neighborhood. We were awakened more than once by shouting in the streets. This did not overly upset us, but if you are a light sleeper you should ask for a room off of the street.

Over all I recommend Axel Guldsmeden and would stay here again on my next visit to Copenhagen.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the backside of the hotel.

This hotel is very nice and eco friendly. A bit noisy, since you could hear the neighbors walking around. The bathroom was very small but the bed was very comfortable. Next time I would pick another hotel.

Room Tip: Top floor.

I stayed two weeks in this fantastic hotel close to Copenhagen central railway station. From environment friendly shampoo, organic tee, biodynamic wine this hotel really takes care about the environment. The spa in the basement is a relaxing experience during cold winter days. Service is superb.

We really enjoyed our 2 night city break staying at this hotel. The rooms are small but perfectly formed meeting all your needs. Such comfy beds and hot showers. we had the breakfast on the second morning and it was lovely. Very convenient walk to anywhere you need to get to in the city and a lovely neighbourhood. The service was friendly and efficient every time we asked for anything. Highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay for a city break. The only reason I've not given it 5 stars is our room was very hot (water pips running down one wall) but it was a minor inconvenience in a lovely weekend away.

Danish take it seriously when it comes to organic goods and renewable energy sources. Well, this hotel is not an exception, as almost everything is organic, from the bath towels to the food served. Electricity is also powered from renewable sources! Now, regarding common questions, hotel has a lovely atmosphere, it is well located - 5 mins from the train station - and staff is very nice and friendly, English speaking as well, like everyone in that city really. I haven't tried the spa offered, but food was nice, there are some interesting tapas dished you should try. Overall excellent experience!

Right in the middle of "The new" old Copenhagen with hip restaurants. Very child friendly. Best food ever!
Zen inspired rooms; a dream.
Very personal service though still staying professional.....Had the honour of being treated extra kindly by young Mr Axel Junior who was so attentive, kind and sweet!
(Credits to his parents:-)
Loved it and will certainly come back!
Kindest Bettina Nerdrum

Room Tip: Though our room wasn't that big; didn't really matter...I would think all rooms had the Zen...
