“Eco-chic, comfort free”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

The hotel is well located, a short walk from the city center and Tivoli amusement park. It's nicely decorated with light wood fornitures, natural fabrics and some details that recall some oriental atmospheres. The result is nice and cozy, but then you have to put up with comfort and functionality that are lacking a little bit: quality of sleep, noise and very little room for amenities and personal belongings.
The hotel is ecologically oriented, so no paper waste (kleenex unknown), large dispenser for soap that can be refilled, counted towels ... I'm ecologically oriented too, but I'm afraid that all these devices help very little the enviroment and a lot the hotel management savings, while the customers pay always the same with less comfort!
Breakfast is prospected as very rich and organic (of course), but in the end you pay something like 25 euros for basically a continental breakfast (with addition of scrambled eggs and bacon) in a very squeezed buffet.
Service: young and helpful, but not very professional.
Conclusion: overpriced, but I'm afraid this is average in Copenhagen.

I stayed here for two nights with my husband. Very conveniently located close to train station, within walking distance of most things you will want to see/do in Copenhagen, as well as a good variety of restaurants. The nighborhood, while not exactly pristine, did not concern me at all.

Room was awkwardly laid out, but still very comfortable. I appreciate green/eco hotels, but their towels left something to be desired. Shower was dark and smelled musty on 2nd day, but served its purpose. Room had a small terrace that was a nice surprise.

Cannot comment on reatuarant, spa, or bike rental, as we didn't use these. Staff was friendly, very casual. Hotel had a very cute garden in the back.

Room Tip: We had a room in the back, which was very quiet

Stayed twice now and have enjoyed both stays. Great location near the train station. Seems to be a dodgy part of town but have never felt threatened. Hotel has a nice eclectic feel about it. Rooms are generously sized and the beds are great. The breakfast is the best.

Our second stay at this hotel. Very nice staff. The lobby is very welcoming. Great that you can rent quality bikes. The rooms are lovely and the open garden in the back is very cozy.

The breakfast is extremely expensive and not worth the price. It should be included in the price and also a more simple breakfast would do. The bacon was extremely overdone (kind of black) and there were other things that didn't really taste so well. Go with the great bread try to keep everything more simple.

Overall the hotel is great and we would love to come back.

Well placed near to the station with nearly everything you'd want to see within reasonable walking distance. The red light district is housed within Istedgade which runs across one end of the street, so it's worth planning your route to the hotel to avoid this especially if, like me, you are travelling with children.

Quirkily but comfortably furnished room, excellent shower, slightly minimal size towels, but that's all part of the hotel's eco-vibe, which for me is a major contributor to its charm. Lovely bar area, fulsome healthy breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. It's not a cheap option, but for where it's situated and what you get, I don't feel it's unreasonable. I'd definitely stay there again.

Oh, and there's also a spa, which I didn't indulge in but if that kind of thing floats your boat, it's another reason to give this lovely hotel a try.

Room Tip: There are no twin rooms, only double (four poster) beds. If you specifically ask for a twin, you may...

We spent 3 nights at the Axel which is about a 10 minute walk from the train station. The room was clean and nice, but on a very noisy street right across from Copenhagen's highest rated gentlemen's club. We never felt the least bit hassled by the clientele, but had to keep our windows shut on warm summer nights to keep the noise out. The breakfast buffet is wonderful and is served until noon. It is worth the money about $22.00 US. Everything in Denmark is pricey. Be prepared. The staff at the reception desk were efficient but not especially caring.

other than slightly fun-house floors (in that the wood slopes up and down through the old buildings that the hotel exists in) this bali-in-copenhagen spot is great for its proximity to the central train station, amazing (unfortunately: "always-the-same"-amazing...but still tasty) breakfast and great massage (Luna). Slightly dodgy neighborhood - but totally nice hotel stay.
