Just back from the Axel staying for four days in Copenhagen. The hotel is extremely convenient to the train station, Tivoli Gardens, and most of the key city areas. Staff are friendly and helpful and free coffee / tea with pastries in the lobby is a nice touch. The room was a good size, four poster bed, small balcony and separate large bathroom, especially given european standards.

My main issue with the hotel is the noise. We knew that there is ongoing building works at the moment, but that wasn't the problem. The noise from the corridors / other rooms really impacted on a good nights sleep, both late at night and in the mornings.

Apart from that though, it is good value for money, just pack the ear plugs.

“not as lovely and nice as they seemed to be”

Axel Hotel Guldsmeden

We were 5 friends staying 3 nights in Copenhagen, One double room and 3 single rooms. In the double room there were only one bathrobe and bathequipment for one person, as well as one pair of slippers. When asking in the reception about the reason for this they said that this was their policy! After some discussion they gave us 2 of everything.
The single rooms were strange, they had bunk beds! Nothing about this fact on our booking papers, made directly with the hotel!
In the rooms there were lots of information about the spa in the hotel, the spa was not at all constructed. There was a minibar in the room but no pricelist, there was a safe but it was blocked.
The beds in our double room was nice and comfy.
The breakfast was rich with good bread, cakes, coffe as well as champagne, but no vegetables, which we found strange when saying them beeing so concerned about organic in all matter.
All in all we would not reccomend this hotel at the moment, maybee if the change thier policy and dont sell spas thei don-t have.

My husband and I stayed at the Axel Hotel Guldsmeden for two nights in September 07. We booked a double room and were aware at the time of booking that the hotel was in the final stages of refurbishment.

On arrival at the hotel, we had to press the buzzer outside and wait for a member of staff to open the front door for us. The reception team was very polite and friendly, and they gave us a letter from the management explaining that the hotel had only recently opened.

We were very impressed with our room, which had a four poster bed (see photo), flat screen TV, and a very unique stone sink in the bathroom (see photo). Our only grumble about the room was that there were small jobs which still needed to be completed i.e. there was no handle on the bathroom door, which I hadn’t even noticed until my husband pointed it out.

The quality and selection of the breakfast offered at the Axel was another reason we were so impressed with this hotel. Fresh pots of coffee are placed on all tables, and as everything is organic you know that you are getting a higher standard of breakfast than that offered by many other hotels in this price range; I particularly recommend the organic yoghurt, which is delicious with cereal.

Overall, we really enjoyed our time at the Axel Hotel Guldsmeden. Despite the minor amount of work we saw that needed to be completed, the pros for this hotel far outweighed the cons in terms of booking a centrally located hotel which we thought offered a high quality of accommodation and service for a reasonable price.

This is a great little hotel. Would definitely stay again. The breakfast was magnificent (although the breakfast room is a little smalll for weekend traffic). The staff were really friendly, bar area small and lovely.

The room I was in was a sky room. I would try and avoid this. Bunk beds with 2 TVs. Very small. Internet didn't work. Shower room again fantastic but shower prone to flooding!

The balcony was great but my colleague was flashed at by two naked men in other rooms (single women be warned!). The hotel itself is the the red light district but this didn't cause a problem.

Should be a great find when the spa is completed!

The Axel Hotel is definitely going to be a standout hotel option in Copenhagen once they complete construction on their Spa, finish their swimming pool, enlarge their restaurant and iron out their WiFi story and buy some hand towels. If any of the above are show-stoppers for you hold off for about 6 months staying there. Otherwise I can highly recommend the hotel.

The rooms are delightful but small. The junior suite has a strange wall divider that separates the living space from the bed area. This results in some traffic awkwardness where there is not room enough for two people to pass each other, much less pull a large bag through from one room to the other. There is a great aesthetic about the hotel than comes across in the tastefully decorated, arguably sparse rooms. The website has accurate descriptions for the rooms.

The breakfast is outstanding. Better than many restaurants. You have a broad choice of eggs, cheeses, breads, lox, fresh fruit and yoghurt as well a large decanter of coffee for each table. Other than the mad rush to get a table and the bustling line at the buffet its nearly perfect. There are some great restaurants nearby that we enjoyed including the Carlton.

The hotel is in a centrally located and noisy area of Copenhagen. You are definitely right where the action is happening. Its close to the "red-light" district of Copenhagen but this seems over-stated and innocuous. Ther Vesterbrogade is the main street near the hotel and you can get a bus from there to just about anywhere or walk 2 blocks to the Central Station and be at the airport in 20 mins. Very convenient.
