“Small rooms, but good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

We arrived early, but could store our suitcases in a locked room. The hall is nice.
The room was quite small. A 140cm bed, a closet, a desk and 2 chairs, that's it. It could use some refreshing too.
The bathroom has probably been refreshed recently and look great, but it lacked a shelf or 2 for putting toilet bags on. Worst thing about the bathroom was the light switch is outside, and even worse behind the door. I could not get used to it, very impractical placement.
The breakfast was ok, standard continental. I missed my scrambled eggs. Very good croissants and danish pastries.
Good location, 5 minutes walking from Nyhavn and 5 minutes from the parliament too.

Room Tip: Room court-side are very quiet. On the 5th floor you can also enjoy the sunset from your balcony.

We stayed three nights in the Strand. Really nice, comfortable hotel that is well placed to visit Nyhavn, the little mermaid, the royal palaces, the Danish Parliament/ Christiansborg, Noma restaurant and the rest of Copenhagen. It is also well connected to the underground and the airport. The staff are very friendly, really helpful and accommodating. The room was averaged sized but spotlessly clean, modern and comfortable. The continental buffet style breakfast was good value and offered a great selection too. The only thing that let it down was the extra charge for an upgrade to have tea making facilities and a waterside view.
I too do not understand why anyone would want to spend a lot of time in their hotel room other than to rest and plan where to visit next when on holiday. For the price and location you really could not do better than the hotel Strand.

Room Tip: Do not bother with the upgrade unless you really want a waterside view. If possible bring a small tr...

Great location. About 7 mins walk from the nearest metro station and 3 mins walk from the lively Nyhavn area. The hotel was in a quiet area. Housekeeping in the rooms could have been better e.g. Glasses not refreshed every day. Rooms very small. Breakfast good and a great choice, but if you were not in for breakfast at least 15 mins before the end time the doors were shut!!

Room Tip: BedRoom was small and a bit shabby/ tired.

Stayed in this hotel on previous visit to Denmark, to visit friends in Randers, First impression was that it was out on a limb, but actually it was very close to the main eating places in Copenhagen. I.E the street that is always portrayed on brochures for the city. It is quite a nice hotel, and we are booking again. Anyone visiting and you think where do I go to eat? Just turn left out of hotel walk two blocks, and a vision of eateries appear before you. Quite unexpected unless prewarned

The Strand is a really comfortable, cosy hotel in an excellent location very close to the lovely Nyhaven. We spent three nights there and were very happy with our choice. The welcome at reception was very friendly, and we found all staff to be pleasant during our stay. Our double room was small, although as well as the good sized double bed (not the best quality pillow though) there was a desk/dressing table with chair, and an extra chair. The bathroom was a good size with a shower over the bath. There was a little leakage under the shower screen - but with a towel bath mat and heated bathroom floor it was hardly an issue. Room and bathroom were clean on arrival and cleaned each day. The buffet breakfast offered a pretty good choice - porridge, cereals, breads, pastries, meats, cheeses and boiled eggs. You won't find hot cooked English breakfast choices though if that's your thing. The breakfast room does get busy at a weekend though - getting there early is best. There is a small bar adjacent to reception with a pleasant comfortable seating area. There is no restaurant but Copenhagen is full of places to eat, and Nyaven at about 5 minutes walk away has an excellent choice of restaurants and bars in a beautiful setting. The hotel is in a great location. if you are pretty mobile it's within walking distance of all the main sites (20 minutes to Tivoli, the Little Mermaid, and less to the fabulous Rosenborg Palace and the Round Tower). I've seen some of the criticisms of this hotel on here about size of rooms, bathrooms etc. It's worth remembering that this is a three star hotel, so if you are looking for five star opulence or palatial rooms then don't book the Strand. Frankly I don't understand why you would want to spend a lot of time in your hotel room if you are visiting this gorgeous city, so much to do and see. So if you want a reasonable and comfortable bed for the night in a great location you could do much worse than the Strand.

I almost clicked "excellent" but two things prevented me from doing so: cleaning service in the room and the location of my room. Room service was inefficient either willingly or unwillingly. My glasses were not changed even when I asked for them to be changed, leaving a note. I had to take them down to the reception and have them changed. They apologized and I would have expected that the cleaning staff would have taken care of that the next day. No. Annoying. Also some days the bed was done, and others not. As for my room location, it was noisy in the morning. My room gave on a side alley where I guess they drag garbage cans in the morning. It woke me up because it was very loud. I would recommend asking for a room higher up for less noise or a room giving on the harbour or on the back (although a friend with a room there reported hearing drunks singing one night).
Those two things aside, the hotel is great. The reception staff is friendly and helpful. My room was small but comfortable. The breakfast is very good with great selection of pastries, cold cuts and cheeses, cereals, delicious oatmeal, yogurt, breads, fruits and veggies. There was only one egg option (soft boiled) but so much else to choose from. If one had enough of an appetite in the morning, one could make it the meal up to dinner! The location of the hotel is great and you can easily walk from there to any attraction in the city. There is also great shopping nearby. It is easy to get to from the airport, being close to the metro station (5-7 minutes walk).

Room Tip: As I said above, try to avoid the side alley because of noise.

The Strand is in a good location, a few minutes walk from the Newhavn, has a comfortable bed, clean if unremarkable room. IF you can get breakfast included in the price it's a very good deal.

They also have some great staff who are very friendly and happy to help out.
