“Our stay at the Admiral”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

We stayed here for two nights at the end of Aug. I read other reviews and agree. The rooms are small and the bathrooms quite small, as well as the hallways, especially when the maid cart was parked there. This isn't your typical hotel, so don't expect it to be. We stayed here because of its history and close proximity to Nyhavn. We were able to easily walk to Nyhavn. Our room was on the 6th floor, and I believe it was a family room, but the staircase in the room was scary with an adventurous 3 year old and it made me nervous, but it was only two nights so I didn't ask to change it. The room was clean. We had drinks one afternoon at Salt, outside, it was quite nice. There is construction going on, but doesn't it seem like there is construction everywhere these days? It didn't take away from the experience. We had breakfast at the buffet. It seemed to offer the standard Danish breakfast. Cold cuts and bread and pastries. Also cold cereal and yogurt, with many toppings to choose from. There was fresh fruit and also some hot offerings, eggs and bacon and small sausages. It was good, and plenty to choose from. The breakfast is not included in the room price. Parking is also not free. Would I return, maybe I would. Oh, when we checked in my son was given an Admiral hat, he thought that was special, he even wore it for a few minutes, hes 3...he doesn't do anything for very long!

We stayed at the Copenhagen Admiral hotel for 3 nights at the end of August. Being our first time in Denmark we had a full on schedule so all we did needed was a room to lay our heads at night.A wonderful woman called Simone Rosa checked us in, expressly introduced everything we need, and she did upgraded the room for us (many thanks). The location is good if you booked a boat trip to the sea. The pick up point just in front of the hotel. You can also rent a bicycle from the front desk to explore the city. Wi-Fi are free and they have a few computer for guests. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a room on the upper floors if you can. Cuts down on the street noise. We stay at room 673,which...

I stayed here for 4 nights, and as contrast, just was in Asia traveling. I've scanned the recent reviews and think they are accurate but maybe some context is helpful.
First, don't expect large opulent rooms in Europe or Scandinavia, period. Bathrooms are almost always tiny, and the accommodations are always more austere. So with that inind, The Admiral rooms are quite spacious.
Second, this is not a conventional hotel. It is a unique property, utilizing an existing grainary warehosue building, so in order to keep its lovely legacy and character, many compromises are made. If you want to stay in Hilton or Marriott, with a square room with a large view, this NOT the place for you, simple as that. It's charm is the fact of its age age and history. Surely there are air conditioned altnatives elsewhere.
As to cleanliness, I thought it was very clean. Front Desk service is fast and accommodating.
So.....is it 4 star? Tricky. It is ....if you accept it's quirks due to the building.
I'd stay here again, but as another person said, maybe not in the height of Summer. In September it was lovely! Oh, and as noted the location is spectacular, and unrivaled.

Room Tip: The lofted Junior suite feels much bigger, but with bed up a steep stairway and bathroom down, it...

Great location, ideally placed right next to the Nyhavn harbour with all the restaurants and sightseeing at hand. The converted warehouse concept looks good. But it’s badly let down by the greed of trying to put too many rooms in. The standard rooms are absolutely tiny, narrow strips without enough room to comfortably walk round the bed. In the night you will struggle to get round the bed and when you do the wall mounted TV is waiting to bash your head as you squeeze past. The bathroom is small and rather old fashioned in style. The safe is a bit awkward as its behind your hanging clothes. There is an ok tea tray but why no teas other than basic? Breakfast has a good range of options, why make guests ‘steal’ them from breakfast to use in the room ? The room gets very hot in warm weather and the arrangement of a big solid curtain over a single swing opening window makes it v hard to let any air in at night. There's no AC at all so its poor choice in warm weather.

We heard others complaining at reception about the tiny rooms, being told that’s what their standard rooms are like and that’s what their agent had booked for them. Get a bigger room than standard if you can. The tiny squashed room was a huge let down. Literature proclaiming designer furniture in all rooms goes for nothing if you can’t move in it !

Noise is a potential big issue here too. We noted other comments about the extensive work on the waterside ( due to be until 2015) so asked to be on the quieter ( we presumed the city facing side) - ‘there is no quiet side’ they said at check in. They were right. On the city side you get noisy groups returning at midnight drunkenly outside your window, and taxi drivers chatting at 0530. The work on the waterside appeared to have temporarily stopped while we were there, so we wished we’d gone for that side after all! Worth checking when you arrive.

Breakfast is decent. Though the hot components aren’t up to much and don’t vary at all, the rest was excellent, very good fruit selection and it never got too busy during our stay.

When the harbour work is done, with an upgraded room, this would be lovely. But for now, tiny standard rooms and lots of noise make it a dubious choice.

Room Tip: avoid standard rooms for reasons given!

The hotel has a great location, nice rooms, our room was on a high floor and had a tiny window that let in very little air and very hard to have a view out of, - but... if it's summer and it's hot be warned the hotel has NO A/C. We had to check out and move to the Marriott because it was just too hot to stay in the hotel. Other guests were sleeping with their room doors open, we're American and just can't do that. Service was ok, nothing I would write home about. So I'm sorry to say I will not be going back.

Room Tip: Make sure you visit when it's cool

I have stayed at the Admiral several times.... This last time was a fiasco!

My room was NOT clean! I had to call for service. Dirty Qtip on the bathroom floor, coffee cups turned upside down with stains and rings! I am still unsure if my bedding was clean.... The problems were eventually taken care of but I had to request clean cups.

Breakfast was nice as always.

Was visiting hotel on business matters as there was a seminar held nearby in Copenhagen. Large lobby with friendly staff, artful room design full of wooden frames and sepia pictures, very decent breakfast make me recommend the hotel for a stay. The restaurant is pricey and surely you have to go and dine out in the city. As the hotel is located within 10 minutes of Nyhavn you can easily find a great place to eat.

Room Tip: Always ask for room facing the canal.
