“Total comfort with superb service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

The hotel, located at the harbour, was formerly a granary. The rooms have the original beams of the building as a decorative feature - very effective. The beds are dreamy comfortable and no detail is overlooked to make ones stay a pleasure. Every effort is made to welcome the traveller .Breakfast is expensive but worth every penny of the price.with every delight the palate might crave to start the day. Many attractions in the city are within walking distance of the hotel. Sincere thanks to all of the staff for their thoughtfulness and kindness. We feel like trying to keep this treasure a secret. It's almost too good to share.

Room Tip: All rooms are good but the ones facing the harbour have the best view

Hotels in downtown Copenhagen can be a rip-off. Small rooms, bad quality, while charging prime rates. So you need to know where to go. We have stayed several times at this hotel as a family, and while the rooms are not super large they are spacious and, with the building inside an old historic store building, very charming with bare wooden beams in the ceiling. The staff is very friendly and professional, and makes it a no-fuss stay in walking distance to Kongens Nytorv. The only issue we regularly have there is that you need to pay for your parking at the standard city parking rates, which are steep. This is the case everywhere in Copenhagen, but one would think that in a hotel car park there should be preferential rates for guests ? Marked down for value for it.

Room Tip: Look for a harbour-facing room - they often offer cheap upgrades at check-in when the hotel is not f...

A lovely hotel with great service, based in a wonderful location. Highly recommended. Delicious breakfast with good range of food sets you up well for the day. Eating out in Copenhagen is very expensive so worth seeking out Riz Raz, Raw and restaurants in Tivoli, especially at lunchtime when menus are more reasonable.

A lovely historic building right on the harbour within walking distance to many sights, restaurants and shopping. Especially good location is you are in Copenhagen for a short time (such as before or after a cruise). The rooms are quite nicely appointed with Danish teak "Trip Trap" furniture and are spacious. We ate in the bar ... food was excellent. Breakfast buffet was great - lots of selection and tasty breads. Staff were pleasant and helpful at checkin/checkout. The concierge gave good advice about how to take the train to do sightseeing outside of Copenhagen. The hotel is popular and so was very, very busy when we were there. You might want to keep this in mind when considering so you are not expecting a small hotel/inn atmosphere. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Book a view of the water if available.

My wife and i stayed at the Admiral for 4 nights in Copenhagen. Thanks to previous reviews, we booked the apartment facing the sea at a rather expensive price.

The positives of the hotels were as follows:
- we had a swift check-in and check-out with no issues.
- the location is quite good, within walking distance to the harbour Nyhavn and the Storget shopping street.
- The Salt restuarant, especially the seating outside, offers good food and drinks and a great place to chill at the end of the day.
- the room we stayed in was quite spacious, clean with a decent size bathroom.

However there were a few negatives that were irritants:
- the room doesnt have AC, thus we needed to leave the window open at night. Every morning at 7 am, there was drilling work happening on the harbour outside that was quite noisy and required us to wake up and shut the window to put out the noise.
- The hallway is interesting however every day there were several cleaning trolleys parked in between the spaces that ruined the look of the hotel. It made the look rather crampy and dingy and took away the beauty of the 'warehouse' look.
- the front desks were not very knowledgable or interested in providing basic recommendations. For eg. we asked then how was Malmo for a day visit and got a prompt reply 'We are Danish and not Swedish' (??)
- the breakfast was basic and the staff seemed to be in a dying hurry to clear the counters. The breakfast officially shuts at 10 am however the staff used to begun lifting the food from 9:40 am onwards. This was annoying.

Net net, its a good hotel for its location however i suspect there would be a better hotels in Copenhagen that are more value for money and maybe better service.

Room Tip: Recommend on a higher floor, facing the sea but away from the artificial harbour (so basically rooms...

The hotel is built out of an old grains warehouse, in the harbor of Copenhagen...service is correct, food is excellent and rooms need more light, ventilation and less environmental noise...at 4:30 AM the garbage is removed for 20-25 minutes, enough to wake you up, if you are not using sleep pills...considering that life is a continuous tradeoff, the positive exceeds the negative facts and, the Admiral Hotel stays as one of the places to stay overnight (s) in Copenhagen.

Room Tip: Always ask for harbor view rooms, they are far less noise that the opposite rooms.

We rented a family room for 3 nights. Make sure you indicate already beforehand that you want to have a family room with sea view. It was great! The area is great - everything within walking distance. We also rented one of those family bikes at the hotel in order to transport the kids - they loved it. The building is impressive and nicely decorated. The hotel staff at the reception was very friendly and efficient. Several families with kids in the hotel.

Room Tip: Take the family rooms with sea view on the top floor of the building.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Next door to royal residence Amalienborg Palace and just a short walk from Nyhavn, this imposing 200-year-old former granary warehouse is one of the largest hotels in the city, with 366 rooms - but don't let that put you off. It may not be boutique but big can definitely be beautiful. Beyond the two cast iron canons at the entrance is a neon-pink bar (great for a pre-dinner tipple), while guests retire to rooms showing off classic Danish touches such as teak furniture, low ceilings and original wooden beams. Best of all are the panoramas across the water towards the city's shiny Opera House and Christiania: a view fit for royalty. ... more   less
