“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

My wife and I spent 4 days in Copenhagen in July of 2013. We booked 71 Nyhavn hotel through American Express. The hotel was rated 4 stars. We chose for its rating and location. We loved the location. It is near the water and along the Nyhavn canal with all the restaurants. Our room was very small, but the receptionist offered an upgrade for additional $20 a day. We chose to keep the room which was reserved.
The room had a double bed, a table with a chair and a small armchair, blocking the way to the bed. We used the armchair to place one of the suitcases. A small armoire was stuck in the corner by the door and one door could not open all the way because of a curved wall. An air conditioner was hung above the closet, which blocked half of the air flow. But this did not make a difference, it was not hot enough to turn it on.
We had an ironing board and an iron in the room, hanging on the wall next to the bed.
The bathroom was a decent size with a bathtub, a sink and a toilet. There was a supply of shampoo, cream and soap, no no soap dish. Bathroom floor had a step up,not suitable for handicapped and causing few trips.
Light, like in every European Hotel, was dim. One of 4 lamps was broken.
There was a flat screen TV. Two English language channels were Russian TV and CNN. Wi-Fi was available in the room at no additional cost and the connection was very good, fast and reliable.
Buffet breakfast was not included in room rate and was additional US$25 per person.
Overall we had a good stay and would return to this hotel again, but we would not rate it 4 star based on the room size.

Room Tip: Check the room layout and avoid rooms with curved walls in the elevator lobby on each floor. I atta...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

Just back from 3 nights in wonderful Copenhagen and we stayed at 71 Nyhavn hotel. We didn't pay extra but we did have a great waterside view and kept the large windows open all night, enjoying the fresh air and the bustle outside. Noisy? Yes, but seasoned travellers ALWAYS take ear plugs, so it wasn't a problem. As others have said, the rooms are small but the shower was powerful and great. Wifi was free and good. Beds were comfy and sheets were lovely. We realised we'd forgotted a socket adaptor and the hotel immediately lent us one, no deposit or charge. They also have big umbrellas to borrow and bikes too. We were on room only so I can't comment on the food at the hotel, but the staff were very helpful with booking resturants. Main thing is location - its the right side of the water, directly across from water bus and electric bus and so handy for all the resturants around that area. We had great fun in Copenhagen and the Nyhavn Hotel was an ideal base.

Really good location near restaurants and bars in the center of Copenhagen. Unfortunately the staff at the front desk are extremely unhelpful and unfriendly. When I stayed the shower didn't work and instead of an apology we received a rude note in the room.

The standard double room is tiny, far too small for a solo traveller with a large suitcase. There is no safe in the room. The bathroom is also very small. The location is good for restaurants, etc., but this advantage disappears with the discomfort of the small room. The staff, however, are very helpful and courteous.

Room Tip: The executive rooms are far more acceptable, larger, with a safe.

Great location right in the former red light district, now bustling with restaurants and activity. Convenient to whatever you want do: canal tours and hop on, hop off buses a short walk away.
That said, our room (which was, I think, a "superior" room) faced the canal and had a lovely view. While it was small, as is common in older European hotels, it was adequate: kind of L-shaped with a cozy sitting area. However, the bed was a double, or full-size, as it's sometimes called. Really small for two adults. The two pillows were thin & limp. Also, there is no AC. Fortunately, the refreshing evening outside air cooled down the room and we were able to close the window, blocking the noisy wharf activity below. It was not a problem. Cannot imagine the summer, though. Bathroom old as others described, but it was clean and didn't bother us. Towels could be more substantial. If you stay in the old part of the hotel, you have to hump your luggage down a small set of stairs to get to the elevator. Restaurant very good. We had an innovative, well-prepared dinner. Breakfast very generous.
This sounds more negative than I intended. The place is well-kept, historically interesting, very well located and the personnel helpful and cheerful. Would we stay there again? Probably not.

Room Tip: Try for the newer part of the hotel, facing the canal.

I stayed at the 71 Nyhavn for several times, being put here by my Danish hosts who also made the reservations. The Nyhavn is located in the old part of town at the "new haven" and opposite to the modern opera house in a rather picturesque setting. Along Nyhavn street are many restaurants and bars, and people especially now around midsummer are sitting outside enjoying their beers and food beside the water. The hotel rooms resemble the cabin my wife and I lived in for week while on a sailboat trip in Turkey last year: they are tiny, the closet offers barely enough space to hang a shirt and a jacket, and the bathroom is a toilet and a sink built into a shower. The driver taking me to my appointment in the morning told me that he had American tourists fleeing the hotel after having seen their room. There is no air condition and in summer you have to either endure the surprisingly hot temperatures or open the windows. If you are in the wrong side of the building, you are facing the brick wall of the next house. If your room is facing the quai, with open windows you will be able to sample soundbits of drunken Danish, according to a British colleague "the most ugliest language to listen to". I must agree, especially if Danish is used to voice one's opinion at 3 am in the morning. Breakfast only starts at 7 am, and there is no coffee maker in the room. The restaurant closes at 10 pm, and there is no room service. The area is excellent for running, which is just as well, as you can't sleep anyway. Positive: wifi is free.

Room Tip: Try to be in a room facing the quai and bring earplugs.

In a small street, full with restaurants, you will find this cosy hotel. Rooms are not as big as other hotels but the good point here is the perfect location of this hotel.
Don't miss the chance to spend a night there because the vinacy is very nice!
