Owner description: Copenhagen's Nyhaven, or "New Harbor," is actually steeped in a long heritage. Colorful buildings line the canal and hint at a history of small-vessel traffic. Like many ports, this strip has a salty history, rich with sailors, drinking and literary exploits. Danish author Hans Christian Andersen made his home in Nyhavn as well. It's cleaned up now and is a lovely place for a stroll.

“Lovely area, great cafes”

A nice quiet area to watch the boats and grab a bite to eat. There are loads of lovely cafes to choose from.

“Beautiful Nyhavn ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2014

Nyhavn is a lovely place to wander around, particularly if the weather is dry and bright. You can also pick up a boat trip here.

My only recommendation would be to eat at least a couple of streets back from the area, or you will pay a premium.

“Iconic Row of Buildings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014

This row of buildings in Copenhagen in many ways is symbolic of the city. The view along the canal represents the cheerful and light-hearted approach Danes take to life. It is worth making the effort to see this striking array of colors and snapping a few photos. There are also several good restaurants in Nyhavn such that it gives additional incentive to pay a visit.

“Remarkable Architecture and a variety of shops, parks and histories on offer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014

I walked here on a particularly nice day and was amazed at the range of architecture on display, there is the local design museum nearby and plenty of shops and attractions (including parks, castle) nearby. You can arrive or leave on a ferry to continue to little mermaid or christiandom.

“Amazingly Scenic location with obligatory photo opps”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

Nyhavn is an obligatory stop and manages to avoid most of your typical tourist-trap pricing and pan-handling. The buildings are absolutely gorgeous and photograph amazingly well, especially with a number of sailboats docked along the inlet. Most of the restaurants offer a pretty similar menu and none are unreasonably priced for Copenhagen. So fear not if you venture in to this area and decide to grab dinner and drinks. The boat tours are actually one of the cheaper forms of sightseeing and cover the surrounding waterfront spots nicely. They're a good way to invest an hour for about the equivalent of $8 USD. Overall, more of a dinner and drinks spot than a nice dinner, or a meeting point for lunch and photographing the waterfront heading north toward the mermaid. Definitely stop, but be sure to go elsewhere if looking for some of Copenhagen's more creative or high end dining.
