“Very pleasant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Stayed for 3 nights, room was small but comfortable. Some of the room fittings were struggling to be what they were supposed to be (not very convincing period furniture) Bathroom was well appointed and with a nice heated floor. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Only gripe was that the room only had a small radiator that was located behind thick drapes so the room was a little cold.

The location of this hotel is undeniably great: within a walking distance from it are attractions such as the Little Mermaid, the Nyhavn area, Tivoli, the old town walking areas and the royal castle as well as great shopping spots. As a bonus the Kongens Nytorv metro station is just 5 minutes walk from the hotel making it easy and cheap to access from and to the Kastrup airport. Also, very popular steak restaurant Mash is located down the street. Be sure to book a table in advance since it tends to be fully booked even on weekday nights.

Hotel is old but not worn out. The rooms are on a small side but spacious enough. I stayed at the room facing the courtyard and it offered me a peaceful, silent, goodnight sleep. Beds are nice and cozy, everything is clean and toiletries available as courtesy. Breakfast is served in a basement. It is not a cheap one (170 krones) but you do get a lot of choice so for me it was well worth the money.

Some minor minuses are the noises carrying from the corridor and chilly rooms, but these are little things and did not bother me that much.

I would definitely stay here again if in Copenhagen.

I've stayed here twice, both times the staff have been really friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a good location near Nyhaven. My first room was not so good, a 'wetroom' which meant the whole bathroom floor got wet and the shower was weak and couldn't keep at a constant temperature. The second room (2225) was better, still not a big room (single) but a proper bath that kept the shower water in one place and the shower was a good flow and steady temperature.
Neither room was big but it was big enough and the wifi works. NB No kettle etc in the room, I ordered room service tea - ask for English tea bags not put in the pot before bringing it and also ask for milk! Much tea in Denmark seems to be Earl Grey or herb tea which is not my thing.
breakfast was pretty good, lots of choice, plenty of room.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a bath and shower

In may 2012 I stayed with a group of friends 4 nights in Hotel Phoenix.
Hotel Phoenix is right in the center of Copenhagen, only a few minutes away on foot from Nyhavn and the Royal Palace of Amalienborg. The hotel and the rooms are in French 18th. Century style, but have all the necessary modern comfort. The double window-system looks a bit old but keeps the noice out (certainly at the backside of the hotel). The service in the hotel (rooms and reception) is very good.
The bar (Brasserie Murdoch Books & Ale) is very inviting and you can eat there small and very tasty meals. We did not have dinner at the hotel restaurant (Von Plessen) but the menu looks more than alright. Breakfast was absolutely perfect. At the Phoenix you get quality for your money.

the hotel has a very good location between nyhavn and amalienborg. it is an old hotel with lots of charm, looks renovated, although some parts are still old, like the windows for example. very friendly and efficient reception staff. we enjoyed our trip to copenhagen. we did rent 2 bikes from the hotel. that's a good service. rooms are clean, nice bathroom. rooms to court were really quite, can't tell about the other rooms. will go back there for sure or try one of the design hotels. great city anyway! we didn't have the breakfast.

Room Tip: room to the yard / Zimmer zum Hof

I will begin this by saying you'll be hard press to find a hotel in Copenhagen that is in a better location than this, great strip of restaurants on the canal are less than 2 blocks away. The front desk staff were some of the friendliest and helpful I've seen,so the get top marks for that in my book. Now on to the rooms, my room was quite small and tight it was an attic room with a support beam almost touching the bed , there was barely room for my luggage, I must say that my colleagues rooms were much larger and nicer, also my bathroom was quite cold and I had to keep the door open just to get the temp up. The bed was wonderful and even though i just came in from Asia, this was the most sleep (9hr ) I've gotten in one session and that I will say was all because of a great bed.

P.S breakfast was good

Room Tip: Avoid the attic styled rooms

This is the second time I stay here. I did not enjoy it the first one, but I decided to give it another try due to the excellent position (in the middle of Copenhagen) and a good offer I found on-line. But really, this hotel is nothing good. The interior design seems to be like 50 years ago, it gives an idea of "dusty". The room was quite small, the bed not so comfortable, the bathroom cold and not so nice. The stuff is somehow nice, but also rude... it is a strange mix to be honest. Only one elevator was working, and it took ages in the morning to go down to the reception. So in the end, apart the excellent position, this hotel is really old and not so welcoming in my opinion. Go there only if you find a very cheap offer.
