“good central hotel if on a budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Stayed here with my wife just before Christmas. All staff were great during our stay and very efficient. The location is perfect, near a metro stop that goes straight to the airport and is also in the middle of the city so everything is in walking distance.

Copenhagen is an expensive city to eat out in so this hotel is perfect for people on a budget. The breakfast and dinner is included in the price and plentiful, the food is basic but at dinner you would always have a good salad selection, soup, a hot dish (curry/pasta etc) and then fruit and dessert. Because the hotel is central it was often convenient to pop back in the afternoon for free coffee/cake in the afternoon aswell.

We had a room looking on to the street on the 5th floor, this was good because it was not too loud and you had a window to get fresh air in. I would personally avoid the central rooms surrounding the atrium.

The rooms themselves are basic, if you expect a luxury hotel this will not be for you but did the job for us. I agree with a lot of comments about the general decor, things are looking a bit tired and could do with a refurb but if you are out most of the time exploring the city and want to do it cheaply this hotel is a good option.

Checked into this hotel on Boxing Day, for a week to explore the city and celebrate New Year. Had a good room on the 4th floor overlooking the central atrium area, which was excellent. Room was very warm but wasn't a problem to leave windows open, due to location. Air con unit was available but didn't mind being nice and warm. Great location for all the major sights we wanted to see. Meals were good and plentiful, took advantage of the complimentary tea and coffee during the day too. No moans at all, would recommend this hotel, good value for money and staff were excellent, thanks for a lovely stay.

I have been staying at this hotel regularly since it was a fresh, newly renovated and clean place in the 1990s, and I have some very nostalgic memories from my many stays here. But there is a limit to how far old love can stretch. The location is still one of the best in Copenhagen, central yet quiet, and the rooms facing the street still provide some genuine copenhagenesque atmosphere. However, the bathrooms - where the showers never were very practical, yet somehow smart looking in a very Danish way - are now beyond awful, with stains everywhere and partly falling apart. Towels provided are scarce and tiny, and obviously already washed about 17.000 times, yet still in service, in spite of being so thin you could almost look through them. Drying yourself in them feels like drying yourself in toilet paper. Carpets and furniture are worn down, and recently made "renovations" in the bedchambers - have only added a sad and vulgar note of "bling" to the misery. The rooms facing the atrium are barely habitable. Service is mediocre and the uninspired breakfast buffet does no honor to Copenhagen as a culinary capital. I see that the manager occasionally answers complaints from faithful or occasional guests in this forum with endless apologies and generally being very defensive, instead of admitting to the real problem: This hotel desperately needs a major renovation and a revitalization of concept and staff. I have stayed here twice this year, but the last visit - in a smelly (ex-smokers'), dreary and plainly unsanitary "suite" facing the backyard, with wastewater pipes crisscrossing walls and ceiling - was the last drop. I will not stay here again until the hotel has been renovated. The manager would do well to try and sleep in the rooms of her hotel herself, and perusing the bathrooms, instead of rebuffing every complaint. The price per night we had to pay was a plain insult considering the general standard, and the receptionist didn't even bother to say thank you or ask us if we were happy with our stay as we checked out. Well, we were *not*. It is ever so sad - one of the coziest hotels in Copenhagen has turned into a dump.

Room Tip: The only barely decent rooms face the street.

This hotel is very clean and nice but been old needs a freshen up to compete with been at the same price as the surroundings. Had to change the room as the bathroom in the attic was not allowing you to have a standing up shower but only a bath. Otherwise it was very cosy and friendly staff.

This hotel was a very good choice for a short weekend trip to Copenhagen. The breakfast as well as the evening buffet which was served during 18:00-21:00 was extremely tasty! Also the 'menu' wasn't the same every evening really nice surprise comparing to many previous hotel visits. Also The famous attraction, 'Den lille havfrue' is located nearby, only a 10 min walk from the harbor.

Regarding the room: Our room was located in the first floor. It was rather small, but worked well for couple of nights. The shower was a bit annoying though, meaning the water coming from the shower head was very sharp so it was rather difficult to take a quick shower and to use high pressure. Also the communicating door between our hall way and the stairs would have needed some fixing, every time somebody passed by our 1st floor room to downstairs, the communicating door made a terrible noise while closing - not so nice during early morning...

All and all - really nice visit in a lovely Copenhagen!

We do not recommend this hotel to anyone. We got a room on the fifth floor, very small to be a double room, and we could only stand up straight in the middle of the room. The bathroom had no light over the mirror, so to put on make up was not possible. It was a cold week end, but there was no heat in the bathroom. The room had old carpets, dirty, and we felt as if our feet stuck to the carpet. The general feeling was that it was dirty, and it smelled of sewage. We tried to change room, but no way. The service was below anything to be expected. A couple in our company experienced that when they came to they room they had been given, there was already a couple staying there. It was a very awkward situation. So I say again: DO NOT STAY HERE.

The best thing to say about this hotel, is that it is very central.
