“Great location/ breakfast/dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

I wrote a review about this hotel a week ago but made a mistake by giving it one star instead of 5 stars it deserves. Since no edit is allowed I had to cancel that review and write a new one. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights after a Baltic cruise. This hotel is located near Nyhavn. The cab ride from cruise to hotel costed 125 Danish krones. The room is small but very tidy. It was warm but we opened the windows so a breeze helped sleep.Wonderful breakfast with lots of organic bread, eggs, and fruits. Dinner buffet is very good too. Free wifi and fast. Easy walk to the shopping street- stroget. Also about 20-30 minutes walk to Tivoli garden, and the central station. Copenhagen is expensive so this hotel is truly a good value. The standard fare from hotel to airport costs 220 krones.

The Neptun is well situated away from the main hustle & bustle, but very close to the beautiful Nyhavn & within walking distance to most of the main attractions. Although some (say the Tivoli) are a good 20 mins away. The hotel was clean & the staff welcoming. There was free WiFi & they were happy to keep your bags securely, when you have vacated your room, so you can continue your sightseeing until you travel to the airport. Perhaps the outstanding feature of this hotel is the provision of an inclusive full breakfast, afternoon tea & cakes & evening buffet. Choice is limited for the evening buffet but with Copenhagen being so expensive, it gives you an opportunity to see the city on a budget if you wish. Its also cheaper to drink in the hotel than most of the bars around the harbour.
A few things to consider. The rooms we had were very small (404 & 518) the latter being smallest & quite hot. The double beds have single quilts x2 & a thin topper to a divan base. We found this quite comfortable even though its not what we're used to. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, but there did seem to be a machine available in the dining room most of the time. There should be in room safes but our room didn't have one & the staff, whilst polite, didn't seem interested in doing anything about it.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here & the staff in the restaurant deserve a special mention for their great service & cheerfulness.

Room Tip: Ask for a bigger room, there are some quite small ones.

The Clarion Neptun's best attribute is its location. It has a beautiful park across the street and is located just steps from Nyhavn, Copenhagen's famous strip of restaurants and bars. It is also one block away from the waterfront. Most of the city's royal palaces are within walking distance. We were especially appreciative of the fact that this hotel allowed us to make the best of our party's short 2-day visit. The Neptun is also a good value hotel in an expensive city.

This hotel offers so many advantages, especially location. We were one block from Nyhaven, a very lively corridor to the canal with lots of patios, entertainment and canal tours. The double room was small but had all the amenities except air conditioning which made for warm sleeping. The hotel had a lovely library, sitting area and great rooftop where we spent some time in the evening. We were surprised to be fed as well with large breakfast and evening buffet. Free WiFi is a bonus as many hotels charge for this service. .As we do not spend much time in our room, it was fine and clean. Good value for an expensive city.

If hotels only knew about little things! I emailed for directions and eventually did get a reply. It was as casual as possible which landed us onto the fairly deserted cobblestone streets late at night dragging our suitcases and with no clue as to how to get where we needed to. It was close to scary and definitely unpleasant. Finally we arrived and, at that point, a hovel would have looked inviting.
Our room was as tired as we and certainly not a trendy Danish interior. Bed comfortable. Amenities below average. Squirt soaps. No shampoo or conditioner. Anemic towels. Pretty much two-three star basics. We faced front which I recommend. Windows opened to cool off the space. Rear facing rooms open onto an enclosed area with no fresh air. Claustrophobic.

Staff was helpful and friendly.

Brisk business is based on food. Breakfast is decent and free coffee and cake followed by buffet meal adequate if not gourmet. Think eat to live rather than live to eat. We eat kosher so it was salad for us but there was chicken one night and chili con carne another. Packs the place with a range of tourists
No business guests.
A bit of a walk with no immediate public transport but Copenhagen is a walking city.
