“Compact special museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

When visiting Copenhagen do not miss this relatively compact but lovely castle museum with extraordinary interiors and a very special collection of art and artifacts. The castle is set in a pleasant garden.Mangeable if short on time.Has a lovely reasonably priced cafe right on site.

“Loved this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

We did not budget enough time to take in all of this place, as they closed at 4pm and we arrived about 1:30. The Castle itself could easily take 1.5 hours to enjoy, and the Treasury another 45 mins at least. Then you have the amazing grounds where the locals hang out with their friends and family on sunny days. Be sure to visit here, and if you bring a self walking guide book, like we did with Rick Steve's guidebook, you'll like it here even more.

“perfect sized castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

Touring castles is not on the top of my list of what to do on vacation, but I'm happy we visited this. The grounds are beautiful, and the interior is well organized and the artifacts cleverly displayed. There are rooms full of ornate porcelain, for instance, on the walls in artful arrangements. We learned a new word in Copenhagen, "cosmophilia", the love of adornment. This word was mentioned with regard to the David collection, but applies just as well to Rosenborg. . Danish history is complicated and I will probably never master it, but it was interesting and there is written material about the royal families.

“Great Castle and Beautiful Gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

The castle is one not to miss. It houses the crown jewels. The day we went the weather was perfect. The gardens were showcased by the lovely weather and the city folks out enjoying the sunshine. It was a great day!

“Interesting - useful guides”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

This was the royal residence before Amalienborg Palace. Well it's not a castle by British standards. It's more of a large old brick house with turret/spirals! The insides were very dark, mixture of gothic/baroque style. Completely different to Amalienborg Palace. Low ceilings and lots of painted wood, gold, black and some of the weirdest choices of decor I thought in some cases. Quite interesting and nice change from glass, white, ikea.

There is an line written description to walk you through the rooms and free wifi if you have smart device, there is also audio but bring some ear plugs for your device.

Good thing is you're allowed to take photos.

If you're lucky (and queen is in residence at Amalienborg Palace, you'll see the changing of the guards here at 11.30am

Note if you have a backpack or hand bigger than about 20cm by 15cm you need to leave on the locker. You'll need a 20 krone coin for the locker.
