Stayed as a couple for 3 nights from December 28th 2012. Booked as a package via Lastminute.com with Easyjet flights from Bristol, UK at approx £200pp.
The hotel is in a great location for central Copenhagen. Being a small city, everything is within walking distance. We had not visited the city before but did not get a bus, metro, train or taxi in 4 days. The hotel is approx 5mins walk from Copenhagen Central station and Tivoli. Stroget and Rundetarn 10-15 minutes walk, Nyhavn 15-20minutes, Christiania and Rosenborg Slot 20-25 minutes walk and Little Mermaid and Kastelln around half an hour. Great location and very quiet road. Literally off the plane and onto train (about 10 mins and 35 dkr).
Hotel facilities- Very clean and modern common parts. Hotel staff were friendly and everyone in Copenhagen seems to speak perfect English. Lift to all floors and 24hr reception and shop. Baggage hold costs 20dkr. There is also free wifi and a laundry room with iron. Quick check in/out machines also available.
Rooms- Rooms were compact but had everything we needed. Spacious and comfortable double bed, cable tv with several English channels, free wifi in room, shower, wc etc. Room was spotless when we arrived and was kept this way by maid throughout stay. We were on the 3rd floor and window overlooked train tracks but couldn't hear trains.
Copenhagen- It is expensive! If you are reading this then you have been warned. Beer is just over £6 a pint and a bottle of water can easily set you back £3 or more. Street food and newsagents are good options for cheap food and drink and also found a pub on Stroget called Streckers serving pub style food for well under half price of everywhere else. Attractions were reasonably priced- Rundetarn was around £10, boat trip from Nyhavn around £12 and Tivoli about the same for entry to the park only.
Copenhagen itself is a fantastic city and nothing like any city in the UK! The people are really friendly, it is incredibly clean, the architecture is unique, shopping is brilliant and is one of the most under populated, compact cities I have ever visited. I could not recommend it strongly enough and Wakeup is a good base for your stay.
A couple of things to keep in mind....
The weather is similar, if not a little colder than UK however being surrounded by water has a cooling effect!
We stayed after Christmas and Tivoli had a firework festival throughout the week. We found that everyone, including many homeless people, set off fireworks constantly for the 4 days we were there!
Before we went, we saw a few reviews saying the hotel was in the red light district. This is incorrect as it is located the other side of the railway station. The hotel is actually on a quiet street behind Copenhagen Post Office.
Take plenty of money for your stay!
Go to Christiania before it is handed back to the Danish Authorities.
