“Perfectly located for Legoland”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

We stayed at Propellen for two nights, visiting Legoland with our two boys. The hotel is perfectly located 500m from the entrance to the park. Our family room was decently appointed (one window broken causing the kids to wake up rather early) and clean. We had dinner at the restaurant one evening, very child friendly with choice of half portions from the regular menu or a kids menu with safe bets, and a play room just outside. Quality of food was OK but rather pricey. Enormous selection of wines (which, as is expected in scandinavian countries, are also expensive). All in all, fit for purpose.

When you're visiting Legoland the "kids" factor has to be taken into account. This is why we chose not to stay in the Legoland hotel, but in Propellen. This worked out as we expected, a little less focus on the kids, a bit more of a "grown-up" atmosphere.

The hotel has been going for some time now, and this shows a little in, well, everything. However: it's just what you would expect from a hotel like this, so no complaints from us. The rooms are decent, reletivley comfortable. The bathroom suffices, shampoo and bodywash comes in satchels (don't let them get wet, because it will be impossible to tear them open when wet).

We also ate at the hotel restaurant, which offers a buffet and an a la carte menu. We chose the latter, the food was decent but too expensive for the quality delivered. Be aware that fish turns up where you might not expect it: on my Wiener Schnitzel some herring appeared - I'm allergic to fish. A new schnitzel without herring arroved promptly though, so service was ok.

For most people a stay at this hotel will be associated with either business or - most likely - a visit to Legoland. The hotel is at walking distance from the park - closer even than the Legoland Village and some of the official parking places of the park! So after check-out simply put your luggage in the trunk, leave your car at the hotel parking place (which is permitted!) and walk to Legoland.

Conclusion: a good alternative for a visit to Legoland, without staying at one of the Legoland-accomodations.

Stayed for Two nights bed and breakfast mid August.Reception and check in very efficient.Rooms comfortable for a Couple but not overly large.Prices are high in comparison to English, expect to pay £7 for lager and about £35 for a house wine!We tried the Summer buffet on one night costing about £60 each and were disappointed by the choice and quality. The food was open and flies were all around salad and sweet section definitely one to avoid!!Suggest you go over road to Lalandia resort with choice of eateries and cheaper plus better quality. Not much in Billund itself except the Lalandia watepark and Legoland.Denmark is a nice place but you need an overdraft to visit because the cost of living is so high as are the taxes they pay!Loved the people as they were all friendly but the let down was the prices which are a minimum Double to prices in Uk and more in the top places. Finally pay by card at hotel and expect a £5 surcharge on your bill on top of all the elevated bar and food prices. The bed making was not up to much-just the quilt thrown on middle of bed and bin emptied. We toyed because of airport otherwise avoid and stay at Lalandia over road better facilities for same price.

After three weeks of being on holiday and struggling to find anything for our four year old to eat that wasn't just fast food, this buffet was a really pleasant surprise.

They had fresh peas in the pod, always a novelty, mini pizzas, spaghetti bolognaise, frikadelles, chicken drumsticks, fruit skewers and a chocolate fountain. The adult buffet was also reasonable although the selection was a little limited, the quality was high.

The rooms were large, but basic with few amenities and it was expensive for what it was.

The beds were spectacularly uncomfortable in 134!

Room Tip: It mat say terrace for the Karen Blixen suite, but you struggle to fir four adults on it comfortably...

Everything worked well, the room was pleasant and the breakfast was ok. The staff working at the breakfast restaurant were helpful and very friendly. The location is great for Legoland visits.
The only downside was the woman working in reception. She seemed to be somehow in charge because she was instructing also another woman working there. She was very cold and arrogant. There was no smile, no welcome neither goodbye-welcome again coming from her mouth. This felt very strange, on a holiday you are used to being warmly welcomed to your hotel.
So, to sum up - a decent hotel with at least one person with an attitude problem.

I sometimes travel for work and in July of 2012 I attended a supervisor's meeting in Billund. We stayed at the Hotel Propellen and held our meetings in the onsite conference room.

The Sunday before our meetings started I was able to visit a Viking festival in Jelling. I used public transportation and the people at the Propellen were very helpful in getting me on my way. In addition to my visit to Jelling, I was able to visit a manufacturing facility in Give and our company group spent an afternoon in Legoland. From what little bit I was able to see of Denmark, it seems like a very beautiful place.

Across the street from the hotel is Lalandia, a large entertainment / shopping venue. That was convenient because it's about a 30 minute walk to Billund proper so it was nice to walk across the street for snacks and beverages.

I really enjoyed my visit to Billund and many thanks to the people at the Hotel Propellen.
