“Needs an update, not value for the money we paid”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

Stayed one night at a Pirate-themed room. Check-in time is at 15.00, check-out at 11.00. Small room, decoration was fun, but couldn't hide the fact that the hotel is dated. We got one room key (an actual key, not a card). In high summer and the room had no AC, only a SMALL table fan. We saw several leaving their hotel room door open all night in order to get just a little air in there. We kept the window open, but with Billund Airport 500m away, the noise from the airplanes is loud and go on most of the night. After the first of us showered, the bathroom floor was flooded. Calling the front desk the staff came quickly to resolve it. They knew exactly what the problem was and the girl said it was the second time that day she had to unclog a bathroom drain. She solved it fast, and gave us extra towels to dry the floor. I do not consider a clogged drain a big problem, but when we all were tired and drained (no pun intended) from being in a very hot room, and when it seems to be a recurring problem, then it is not ok.

We were told at checking in that the hotel has free wifi, but couldn't get it to work. Upon asking at the reception again, they said there had been problems with internet the last days and at 08.00 in the morning they had noone who could assist in trying to solve it.

The breakfast buffet was good quality and with good choices. Having to make your own pancakes might be fun for the kids, but after a long night of not sleeping well (courtesy of the missing AC) i would have preferred if someone could have flipped those pancakes for me.

Overall it is a fun Lego-themed hotel with friendly staff, and very conveniently placed with own entrance to Legoland. Our son liked it, and if they could upgrade the hotel (most importantly by adding AC, and a better mattress would be good too) it would become quite ok, but they got some way to go before it becomes good value for the money we paid.

We would consider coming back another time, but definitely not during hot summer days, and we would check the other options in Billind and Vejle better before deciding.

Dear Legoland, please update this hotel! The location is perfect, and the hotel activities were great. I loved the large fitness center, and the free pool across the street. The Lego building stations were cool for my boys.

But for over $400 a night, you should update the rooms, and pretty much the whole hotel. Feels dark and dingy, and a time warp back to the 70s. Our room is tiny, and one of us slept on the floor each night. The sofa bed did not sleep my 2 boys...only the size for one of them.

There is no AC, so the rooms get stuffy and muggy very quickly. We had a tiny fan, which they provided, to move the air around. This is the first expensive hotel I have been at where they gave us one key, and not cards to use for our room. The only thing that is new in our room is the small flat-screen tv. The food is crazy expensive, so we didn't eat dinner at the hotel. I didn't see too many people in the "nice" sit down restaurant. It would have cost my family $200 for dinner.

I don't think there are too many hotel options out here in Billund, which is unfortunate.

Hi Livelovelifenow

Thank you for taking the time to rate us on tripadvisor

We are sorry to hear that you were sleeping on the floor due to lack of space in the room and we wish you has contacted the reception desk in order to have the problem solved at the spot.

Hotel LEGOLAND was builded back in 1968 and has been expanded from 32 to 233 rooms since the LEGO family bought the hotel in 1974, which also makes it the oldest LEGOLAND Hotel in the world. Every year we offer a lot of resources modernizing the hotel and therefore we are very sorry to hear that it didn´t met your expectations.

The climate in Denmark doesn´t normally requires an aircondition, but we agree that it would be a good service to offer on the very varm days.

Thanks again for your input. We hope to see you again in LEGOLAND

What can I say, this hotel do not deserve a high rating. Overpriced, worn down hotel rooms, too many people, stressed staff, etc. If you plan to go to Lego Land with your kids, I recommend that you choose another hotel.

We stayed here for the final two nights of our trip in Denmark, simply because of it's location adjacent to the Legoland park. We stayed in a 'Kids room', and while I'm not sure how it would sleep a family of four, this was the largest room we stayed in during our trip. The bed was very firm, but the room was pleasant and well equipped. It was clearly set up for a family with small children (rather than the three adults of my party!), and as a parent of small children I'm happy to say they did a good job of that. The location of course is ideal for Legoland, and it was good to just come back to the room after spending all day in the park, and the ability to go back and forth between the park and our hotel room would be very useful for a family of young children - in our case it also allowed my husband to take his Lego purchases back to the room and then come back to the park to meet us :) The breakfast was good, with ample food options. At the end of the stay, the hotel is close to the airport so there is a minimum of fuss.

The downside of the hotel is the price of the food onsite - meals are VERY expensive. Thankfully, the food we ordered was also of good quality, but it is overpriced.

Its pathetic to call this hotell a 4 star hotell. I lie in bed, in a knight room that smells a bit of pee. My kids are lying in a bunkbed that should not be worthy in a prison. Its small, maby 10 m2. I have paid 3500 for one night. This hotel takes advantage of its position.

I have stayed in many 4-5star hotel and this is not one of them.

Our friends live next door and it smells like pee in there aswell.

Legoland is great for the kids. Try to stay somewhere else with better standard....

Excellent family hotel catering for the kids in the family around the Lego theme (but not forgetting the adults). Rooms were spacious, clean and very well equipped. Food in the buffet was excellent but VERY expensive.

We had a fantastic night at this hotel. We were upgraded from the standard room we were expecting to an Adventure trail room - and really find the unenthusiastic comments re these rooms hard to understand: ours was spacious and beautifully furnished and decorated with lots of lego sculptures, hidden treasures (lollies and toiletries) and 2 boxes full of lego for playing. Bathroom was luxurious. Kids loved their bunks and our bed was extremely comfortable. I think this is one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in. Overnight we worried it would be too warm after a hot day as no aircon but the room came with an upright fan and we left the windows open and that kept the temp ok. Kids were given a little lego kit each at check in and then won another one in one of the competitions which was a great suprise in the morning. Plenty of activities for children - ours loved the Nintendo room especially. Breakfast was generous and delicious and staff coped well with the crowds: we loved the make-your-own pancakes. Dinner at the hotel was too dear for our budget but there is a supermarket about 15 mins easy walk away in Billund that's open till 8pm. All in all a fanastic 2 days.

For anyone doing this by train and short on time: Our package included 2 days entry to Legoland: we caught the 9.30 Eurocity train from Hamburg to Vejle on day 1, (cheap if booked in advance on bahn.de and worth making a seat reservation as train was short - 2 carriages - and crowded) then the 143 bus (60Kr per adult) to the park - pick up some Danish money before the journey (the Reise Bank upstairs at Hamburg station can do it if you leave this to the last minute but the rate we got was not good) as the bus leaves 10 mins after the train gets in and you'll lose time at Legoland if you miss it. We left our bags at the entrance to the park (20Kr), not realising that for 5 mins more walking we could have gone to the hotel, but we were on our first ride by around 2 pm I think. The rides shut down at 5pm (park closed on our days at 6) but those 3 hours on day 1 and all day day 2 (we spent night 2 in Copenhagen after catching a late train) was plenty of time to do most rides 2-3 times. and some even more as we visited outside of school holidays. To save money on drinks: there is a bubbler close to the entrance to the park for re-filling water bottles - water was delicious.
