“Save up, take the kids, and have a great time.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Staying at this hotel was a big treat for us and even more so as we booked the brilliant Adventure Room as a surprise. This room has a big double bed and four bunk beds tucked around a corner, affording some privacy for all. plus there's lego spiders in the bathroom, monkeys and parrots in the bedroom. The hotel is great - right on the door of Legoland- and the Lego characters and detailing are awe inspiring, just as much to adults as to kids. The food in the a la carte restaurant was also the best meal I had in my 10 day holiday in Denmark - although none of this comes cheap. I reckon the two nights inc food and drinks for 4 cost us close to £1000. But as a one-off, it was worth it.

Small rooms arranged in long corridor blocks. Badly overlooked by adjacent rooms which meant keeping curtains closed frequently. Beds small and a but lumpy, bathroom particularly dated with brown tiles and a a toe stubbing step!
Some reception staff somewhat brusk, others, the younger ones helpful.
Food in the buffet restaurant ran out and was not replenished, some 'hot' food also went cold and was not varied enough, a lot of veal for instance. There were also a lot of flies on uncovered food.

Disappointing.

The experience with this hotel has been very average since the moment we walked through the door.
Arriving early we wanted to leave our luggage because our room wasn't ready - there was a luggage storage room, but open to everybody, no storage receipts supplied.
The room was tiny with no space to leave clothes, leaving clothes in the suitcase was the only option - a bit poor for a room that we paid over 300 EUR per night for.
Not having access to a car we were pretty much bound to eat in the hotel - extremely expensive to eat here. Buffet 270 DKK per person = 36 EUR excl drinks. And there were flies all over the food. Pretty disgusting.
No safe in the room. Wanted to leave a laptop computer in the hotel safe. Hotel staff put it openly on a shelf behind the reception desk - not somewhere to leave an expensive computer so I took it back.
Breakfast - busy and poor selection.
Room cleaning: we wanted to take a nap around 3 in the afternoon but the room wasn't done yet.
THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS HOTEL: and this was the reason that I chose it in the first place: it has its own entrance to the park which allows you to go in and out to the legoland park at your convenience. However being there I discovered that there are good alternatives at walking distance so I would go for those alternatives in the future. These alternatives are closer as well to Lalandia. Hotel Legoland is a good distance away from anything else but legoland itself.

Corby trouser press and other fittings meant that the standard room wouldn't look out of place in a UK business hotel from a bygone era. That said, it's all about the lego - there was a box in the room, a small gift on our son's bed and huge pits of mixed bricks to play with at various points around the hotel. The various challenges were fun - follow clues to identify a Chima bad guy; a Friends related trail and a build a model competition. It looked like they gave out about 15 prizes a day so there's a decent chance of winning although I'd steer clear of the model building as there was clearly some excessive parental help being given. There were some impressive model characters dotted around the hotel and if the corridors are anything to go by then the themed rooms are probably worth it if you want to pay the extra. There was also a good play area with pool and table football. The restaurant seemed pretty pricey and limited to a buffet and a small number of main courses. We liked the restaurant at the Hotel Propellen - a 5 minute walk past the car park and through the sculpture park. They had a cheaper buffet, a much better selection of mains and a decent wine list. Access to LEGOLAND was via a separate entrance so it was possible to enjoy some activities such as the Aquarium before day visitors made it that far into the park. It was fun to stay once but if we went back then we'd probably stay an extra day or two at Lalandia as it's a short walk away and would give access to the water park as well.

Random tip - the switch for the main light in the room is located above the cupboard with the minibar. Anyone under 175cm might struggle to actually reach it.

Good hotel, next to the park, 30m across the bridge. Lego's everywhere, it's a pleasure for the adults too. Great breakfast.
The theme rooms (we had pirates, Arr....) where very appreciated by he kids, going around the hallways, the many playrooms.
The real complaint is about the price. They manage to fill it so why shouldn't they, after all.

We went to the hotel for 2 days for a mini vacation.

PROS: First the good stuff!

GREAT fun lobby! Everything is geared for entertainment for every second of your trip from the lobby to the elevator to the room! Cool animated lego-made objects like the dragon that roars outside at the front and the Whoopee Cushions built into the floors near the elveators! Then the disco balls and dance music IN the elevators. Every moment, there is a fun distraction for the kids.

Colorful, clean themed rooms that include some drinks, a small lego toy and water for free, and a bucket of leggos to play with during your stay. The bunk beds with a third trundle are PERFECT for a trip with the kids or for an extended play date / overnight with friends. They are in a separate area so it's great to have them in their own space.

The food options in the hotel are hiqh quality and if you have the annual pass, they are reasonably priced.

CONS: Now for the bad part!

The STAFF! Wow. Some of them are great; or are trying to be! The rest are just simply awful. Our bell hop / valet guy promised to put our sun shade in our car if we did the valet thing, so we did that but did he put it in? No. Our car baked for 3 days in the sun. Next, a couple of the front desk people were nice, but beware of the heavy set girl with black hair and looongg FALSE eylelashes. Did not catch her name, but if she calls you, let someone else go ahead of you and wait for a nicer person.

We were checked in and then told that we were going to be charged $100 extra per night "just in case" we broke a window or something and that would "go away" if we didn't! I've stayed in dozens of hotels and they may take an imprint in case you charge to your room but never have they put an authorization through for an extra $200 bucks! Seemed really off. We were a bit early and were told they would CALL us on our cell when the room was ready, but of course, they never called. We finally checked back an hour later to find the room WAS ready, but they just never bothered to tell us.

Next, we wanted to upgrade our passes to the annual to get a better rate on the hotel and the 20% off of everything in the park. We were not able to do that at the front desk, but sent to the concierge and told they could do it. So we wait on line (EVERYTHING takes forever there! Be prepared to wait for EVERYTHING even on a weekday when there seems to be not too many people there!)

We get to the concierge who seems annoyed that we are asking for passes and sends us outside to Guest Services. We get there and stand on line again forever, but are then told we need to be at MEMBER SERVICES next door! So we go there, wait forever again, and get the passes but are THEN told we have go to MEMBER PROCESSING to get a decent picture! We let them take the terrible shadow of a pix they said was all they could take and just wanted to get to our room.

We went back to check on the room, found it had been ready but they never notified us and went on up. We had to wait quite a very long time for the bellman to bring up the bags. The do not allow you to use their carts by yourself! You have to call and get a bellman and wait. Very inconvenient!

So we finally get in, settled, changed, and had a nice lunch and went to the park. Sea Aquarium was awesome, park is always fun.

First night, there was NO sleep. All we heard was like a herd of elephants running back and forth, back and forth, back and forth till 2am! We called several times to see if they could figure out where it was coming from, but got no help. Second night, I guess whoever was doing that left, because it was nice and quiet. We were on the 3rd floor which I would recommend. At least you don't have anyone stomping above you. We had stomping next to us and it was awful. Over the pool was nice but I think a view of the park would have been nice also.

When we were ready to leave, we called for a late checkout and were quite snottily told they could MAYBE give us 20 more minutes. So we sped it up and got packed up. We called down at 10:50am to get a bell man. Then we got the bill!

They had over charged us by $80 for a meal we had at the buffet. They had also nickeled and dimed us to death for this $2 fee and that $2 fee! Nevermind the $20 "resort fee" they charge for parking and interntet, but then they had an "occupancy fee" ???? for $2.00 for each night that I was told was a TAX on the RESORT FEE?? And of course, the standard 10% tax which is very high.

We called down again at 11:30 since checkout was 11am and they only gave us 20 minutes! The lady said she'd get him up there. So we call again at 11:45am... no bell man. She tells us she will walk over and get one. No bell man still. At 12 noon, I finally called the manager, who finally got a bellman, adjusted the bill for the overcharge and also gave us an additional discount for all the wait and inconvenience.

If the price wasn't so high to begin with, and then to be nickled and dimed on top of that and then over charged, it would have been a good value. Basically, what we wound up paying was about what it should have been instead of what they were trying to charge instead plus all the incompetence of the staff.

Mostly, it was the staff that made our stay not as nice. Even at the buffet. The ladies they had getting coffee pretty much hounded us ever 2-3 minutes to see if we were ok. It was overkill and weird. But the opposite was true of the Skyline cafe! Those guys were GREAT. They were over worked as they also had to wait on everyone out on the patio, so again, the wait was ridiculous, but the food was so good and the guys themselves were so nice and they had other servers bring us stuff when they could so it wasn't that bad.

Legoland is always fun. The waterpark is fabulous, and we do have the annual passes, so we will be back, but I highly doubt we will ever stay at the hotel again. Don't need all the snotty attitudes, lack of information, lack of good direction, triple charges, and loooonnnggg waits. But I'm sure we'll take a trip on the elevator and jump on the whoopee cushions just for fun!

Maybe they will work out some of the kinks and higher nicer staff. If anyone has a better experience in time, please post!

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor which I would recommend. At least you don't have anyone stomping above...

Stayed two nights with wife and eight year old daughter. Wonderful to be right in Legoland. However, the hotel was nothing special. No ventilation in the bathroom. No air conditioning. Free Wi-fi disconnected us from our iPads and iPhones several times a day. Inadequate sound proofing between rooms. Paid extra for a Pirate room, which was small and did nothing to impress my daughter. Free breakfast buffet food was good but place was a zoo every morning. Would have preferred table service. Come to enjoy Legoland. Stay here, but don't expect a perfect hotel, just a perfect location.
