“A successful try of creative Catalan and Spanish cuisine in Denmark”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

A large variety of catalan and spanish tapas but in a creative presentation. Very good selection of Spanish and catalan wines from small cellars. It is worth a stop in this very honest place. Good product, well cooked and well served.

“The number 1 in Aarhus for Tapas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013 via mobile

Picking a restaurant is a difficult business for most however if you happen to stumble across Can Blau, you've stumbled upon one of the gems of Aarhus in my opinion.

The head chef Jimmy has some brilliant ideas and interpretations when it comes to food and being an ex elBulli chef you can only guess what this beauty of a restaurant is capable of doing.

The restaurant is huge and I've often taken business meetings there and visited together with groups of friends and can only recommend letting the restaurant worry about what your ordering. Only the first time I visited did I pick and thereafter I've let them pick and I have never been disappointed to date.

Sadly the size of the restaurant does lead to its downside that it might not appear to be as cosy as smaller places however the food and service more than make up for it. Service in Denmark is a difficult thing to predict, but 9 out of 10 times I've had some great service at CanBlau and the time it wasn't so sharp the waiter made up for it so fair is fair.

Would recommend you call in advance to get a table especially on weekend evenings and if you've never eaten tapas get yourself a table :)

“Nice Tapas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

The restarant is in the center of Aarhus; the rooms are open and not very cozy, a bit of a canteen feeling. However the food is excelent.Waiters are typically for many restaurents in aarhus students rather than educated watiers.

“Nice tapas!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

Not very Spanish, but good food and wine. We went there aftera 5h drive. Enjoyed the fried artichokes and mini burger. Waitress even prevented her from taking too many dishes saying we would have enough. And she was right!

“Excellent food at decent prices. Service could be better.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Centrally located restaurant in Aarhus at the edge of the "Latin Quarter".

CanBlau is not the place to have your traditional Spanish tapas - even though they have a few classics (patatas bravas). The culinary ambition is higher. They serve smaller, sophisticated dishes that you can combine as you like from the a la carte tapas list. Most dishes are inspired by tastes from Spain/the Mediterranean and Asia. You will have order 3-4 dishes each to have a full meal. There is also a set menu every day.

The restaurant is quite large but subdivided into different dining areas with modern decor - quite enjoyable atmosphere and setting, especially the room closest to the entrance. Service is friendly, but the young waiters are neither very knowledgeable nor efficient - they do try, however..

The food is excellent. With a few exceptions (the mini burger for example) the dishes were very flavorful and well balanced. A few of them range among the best dishes we have had during the past year - the fried artichokes with truffle mayo and orange/grapefruit, the tuna with mango and the foie gas terrine with apple were all exquisite. The chicken Tandori with Iberico and bok choy was also a very inspired take on fusion cuisine. The one dessert we tried - a pineapple sorbet - was good: light and tasteful.

The wine selection is decent - mostly Spanish wines at reasonable prices for Denmark.

Price/Quality ratio is very good considering the level of sophistication of most dishes.
