“An unforgettable place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

This B&B is so charming and magical that it alone is enough of a reason to visit the beautiful island of Aero. Our family of four adults stayed for two nights and loved it. Susanna is a most gracious host; she helped us book ferry reservations, deal with some dietary restrictions, and even set up an appointment with a local doctor when the need unexpectedly arose. The rooms are lovely and atmospheric; the breakfasts are delicious. A wonderful experience; highly recommended.

We had a very pleasant stay at this pension. We took two rooms for ourselves and our two grown children. Susanna is a charming lady and very helpful and informative. She gave us advice on bike rentals, made our dinner reservations and even suggested we make sandwiches from our ample breakfast and take them out for a picnic, which was a brilliant idea. The beds and furnishings were in an antique style, and there is also an extensive library and a pretty garden where you can relax. Ærø is a lovely, peaceful island, and it revitalizes you just to be there.

Just a few travel tips unrelated to the pension. First off, you may not want to be there on a Sunday. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon in June, and hardly any shops or restaurants were open. In fact, the Hotel Ærøhus next door (and the only bike rental place on Sunday) refused to rent bikes to us even though there were plenty of bikes, the manager didn’t want to be bothered. This was mid-afternoon in a place where it doesn’t even get dark until after 20:00. We rented the next day from the nice lady at the gas station for a much lower rate. Secondly, both the pension and bike shop don’t take credit cards, there is a bank machine, but if you have limits on daily withdrawals this may be an issue. Thirdly, you don’t need a car on the island, as you could easily walk on the ferry, roll your suitcase one block up to the Pension, and then bike or hike to see the adorable beach huts.

After checking out almost all B&B's in the village we chose this one, and it was a wonderful stay. Susanna is a very nice person who took good care of us. The room in the attic was lovely, private, very bright and beautifully decorated. All this in one of the most charming islands I have seen lately: it is an absolute recommendation!

We disembarked from the ferry in Aeroskobing and found ouzr way to Pension Vestergade 44 quickly and simoply. The welcome from Susanna was warm and the tea she prepared was very welcome.

Each room has been decorated in its own individual and very elegant style. The whole house has an atmosphere of charm and elegance and when it rained outside, we could sit in the pension sitting room and library and soak in the atmosphere there.

The breakfast of coffee (or tea) and home made bread rolls was more than ample and set us up for a gentle day's tourof the island. There is an airstrip on Aero complete with aircradft and pilot who will, if asked, provide an interesting arial view of all the islands off the coast of Fyn.

A stay at Pension Verstergade 44 is not a home away from home; no normal home could be quite so comfortable and elegamnt, nor would one always be sure of such a warm welcome.

Susanna is a truly wonderful host with tact, a gift of conversation, warmth, and fantastic hospitality. The house has nice little touches everywhere and great decor. We were very comfortable and relaxed after a delightful stay.

We stayed at Vestergade 44 for 3 nights in December in order to get married on Aeroe and we had wonderful time, Susanna couldn't possibly have been kinder to us. I can't imagine a more charming or informative hostess!
We were greeted with tea and biscuits on our first day (which was most welcome after the journey from Copenhagen) and later in our stay Susanna made gløgg to warm us up after a windswept walk along the beach. The breakfasts were also fantastic - not to mention copious(!) with muesli, orange juice, tea, boiled eggs, bread rolls and rye bread with a selection of meats, cheeses and fruits. Food bags were also provided so that we could make packed lunch out of what was left - to sustain us while we explored the island!
The house itself is exquisite - we stayed in one of the rooms in the attic which is filled with beautiful ornaments and paintings (who needs museums and art galleries when there are guest houses like this?). If you get chance, read the fascinating guide to the history of the house which is provided in the room. All in all we had a wonderful time on Aeroe, the people there were so lovely to us and we're hoping to go back during the Summer.

Our stay was perfect from the moment we stepped into the house until the moment we shut the door on our way out. Susanna is a wonderful hostess and the house is beautifully appointed. We had coffee and cookies with candlelight on arrival and the breakfasts were lovely, and included a bag to make a picnic lunch! I would definitely recommend staying here!! (I also have to mention sweet Tilly the dog for like-minded travelers who miss their dogs and could use a dog "fix!")
