“Perpetuating a local tradition”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

immersion into a centenary local tradition, kind of tapas the Greek way, this place will reveal to you the greek psyche, especially now with the crisis. do not be astonished if you find yourself in the middle of joking, echanging treats, poking each other, laughs and noise. Just mix with the crowd, observe and chat with locals, eat generously (each round costs very little)

“Amazing tsipouradiko. Certainly Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Amazing tsipouro place, excellent service, very friendly people, the food is undescribable and very cheap for the quantity and quality they offer. Certainly value for money. Everyone has to go there while visiting Volos.

“Really good choice for city travellers to enjoy special sea-food with the traditional drink tsipouro, with a nice sea view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012 via mobile

Clean restaurant. Nice food and view. Good service and fair prices. Unfortunately no music playing. Large part of the restaurant is outside, good solution for smokers. In the winter there are heating devices even outside ;)
And never miss drinking tsipouro!

“A MUST PLACE FOR VOLOS & "TSIPOURO"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

As I don't live now in Volos, but it's my hometown, I'm a frequent visitor there. I allways prefer Dionisis, as it is one of the best "restaurants" of it's kind. For foreing visitors, I have to explain that "tsipouradiko" is a must when you visit Volos. This type of unformal "restaurants" are serving mainly "tsipouro" which is the greek version of grappa. Actually you don't order your meal there, but every "tsipouradiko" brings you it's own "meze plates", that "feats" with tsipouro. Let's say that you are a company of 4. You'll order simple "tsipouro", and they will bring you 4 little botles (40ml each) and 3 plates of "meze plates". After this you'll order "tsipouro" for a second time, and then the second 4 little botles will have 3 more "meze plates" different than the those at the first time. These can go on and on for how many times you want. Note that now, each person has to pay between 3 - 3,30 EUROS for each order, which includes both "tsipouro and meze". Also note that after 3 or 4 rounds you will have a great hearty meal for less than 14 EUROS per person. Of course you can order something from the menu list, but often these are something really special, and will rise the bill. At last I have to inform you that there are not meat based "meze plates" and the magority of them are sea food dishes. "Tsipouro" itself is a strong drink, we usually add only water (ice is accerted also), and you have to be very carefull with it. Dionisis runs another place in central Volos, which is not in the seafront, and which I recomend, as it is much more traditional. The secont "Dionisis" is on Lori str (opposite ALPHA BANK) between Iasonos str and Dimitriados str. A visit in a Volos "tsipouradiko" is a unique experience, as only spanish tapas bars can compare to them. Try Dionisis and you will not regret it.
