Our friends told us there is no better place to stay in Skopelos. The reviews were amazing. The website invites you to "discover a private haven". Although it was an excellent hotel, it did not live up to our high expectations of peace and tranquility that one would expect from a 5 star spa hotel.
Let's start with the positives, because there are quite a few: beautiful and clean beach with bar service, superb breakfast with lots of choice (highlights include omelettes made to order and freshly squeezed orange juice), polite and helpful staff, clean and modern rooms/facilities, delicious food at the restaurant...
Unfortunately, our stay was dampened by an incredibly large group of tourists that had booked half the hotel and - literally - took over the place. Shouting, dancing, screaming children, even at one stage throwing an American football amongst the tightly spaced loungers at the "private beach". Not what I would expect from a five star "haven", especially as there is a four star sister hotel right next door, presumably to accommodate such rowdy clientele.
I would propose two solutions to the hotel - (i) continue marketing the five star resort as private and tranquil but ban large groups or (ii) ditch the dual marketing strategy, merge the four and five star hotels together, drop prices to attract even larger groups of tourists (potentially a credible route in the current crisis) and continue life as only a slightly above average Greek island hotel.
As far as we are concerned, we will not be returning to Adrina Resort & Spa because they have not met the high expectations they promised and what their high prices suggest.
