“Nice place but a pity about the owner's angry moments”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

The apartments are managed by the owner, his wife, daughter, son in law and
cleaner. They are all very friendly and helpful except for the owner. The owner
shouted at one lady in our party at the swimming pool in front of a number of
guests because she had separated the apartment keys from the
fob to enable the phone and Notebook to be charged up during the day and had accidently left a light switched on. On another occasion he approached my partner as she was about to use one of the only two remaining sunbeds by the pool, to inform her that she couldn't use
the sunbed as it was reserved for two guests (we guessed that these 'guests'
were family but they never showed up). Perhaps there were a number of other
occasions the owner had a go at the guests but we did not witness them as we
went out of the complex most days and evenings.

On the plus side the establishment is kept very clean and the food is good. Skiathos itself is a
lovely island. There is a very reliable and regular bus service. The people are
all very friendly in a genuine way (apart from ....). Skiathos is a great place
to go for a relaxing holiday.

Our family had an extremely relaxing and peaceful holiday at the Marialena. We were warmly welcomed and everything went like clockwork for the whole two weeks. Rooms were clean and airy with great balconies. Poolside was stress free, and with plenty of sun beds no one felt the need to reserve them. The bar and, food were excellent quality. We knew that there wouldn’t be evening entertainment, and that suited us….you can find some nearby if you want it. All in all a great holiday and a cracking (quiet) location…. and as for George, he’s a good bloke who gets a bit stressed when things don’t go to plan, but we found him extremely hospitable and generous.

Would we go back?… yes any time and so would our teenage kids

Great location if you like peace and quiet - which we do. Very clean across the whole complex and apartments. If our aircon had worked then the review might have had 4 stars. When it broke, George's son got an engineer in to fix it. This only worked for 3 days. George was furious and refused to get it fixed again! He resulted to asking another apartment to swap with us so we would have aircon but this was only because our rep. from Thompson pushed for something to be done. At the end of the holiday he wanted to charge us for days we did not have aircon. When we refused he increased our restaurant bill that had previously had a discount! He needed to get back the engineers charge somehow. I have never known such a mean and rude owner of any hotel I have stayed at. I am sure you will be well treated if you spend money with him but good luck if anything goes wrong. Just avoid room 6 if you want aircon. We will return to Skiathos next year but George will not be getting my custom.

The apartments are, by Greek standards, above average in size, furnishings and comfort. The location is peaceful and very rural. The grounds are spacious and neatly maintained. The food, hand prepared by Maria, is excellent and plentiful. It is a lovely place to stay and George is always willing albeit not always too cheerful. The food, and bar, prices are about the same as all the local establishments. BUT there is no ambience or soul. Nothing to make you want to stay in at night. Liven it up a couple or three nights a week and it would be excellent. Thus saying we would happily return in the future. Other bars nearby, Takis (with mad Matoula) and Jimmy's (with Elvis), make you want to participate and have fun. Take note George but perhaps you prefer it the way it is.

Room Tip: The higher numbered in the block overlooking the pool, upstairs rooms, have excellent views and balc...

Nice location, very peaceful. 15 min stroll to the main road and beach.
Its basic and great value for money. The hosts George and Maria are a welcoming and will help you with anything that you need to know. Maria's cooking is delicious and they will cater for special requests.
I think the cleaner, there is one, was working flat out so the cleaning was a bit sloppy - take some cleaning wipes with you and buy some washing up liquid when you get there and all will be fine.
Pool side rarely gets busy. The majority of visitors are mainly retired so it would be good if George could get some more cushion pads for the sunbeds - just makes them more comfortable.
We stayed for 10 days and really enjoyed our stay, its a nice location. George and Maria work hard and can come across as unfriendly but stick with it and make conversation and they soon open up.

Room Tip: We had the top most room which is up a steep slope, a hard walk if have any knee problems or arent f...

Just arrived back from Marialena Apartments after seven nights. We had previously had a look at these apartments prior to booking so we new what to expect. Very bright and airy, beds good and comfy which is a massive bonus for Greece. The apartment did lack a kettle so recommend you take your own. Cupboards in kitchen could have been cleaner but my major disappointment was that the towels of which you only get two hand and two bath are only changed once during seven days. Even after asking for new towels we were told To wait for change. Didn't really have anything to do with owner after initial prep talk on arrival just kept out of his way. If you want air con it is 50euro for 7 days or 100euro for 14 and low and behold if you leave it on!! Overall good apartments

Clean large appartments in a beautifully quite location. Excellent resort with lovely beaches. There are no bad things to say about our holiday, it was great.
Just dont drink at the bar as George charges a fortune , otherwise hes ok, despite what people put on here.
Linen and towels changed every other day
