“Well worth the visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We hired a jeep as recommended on the Skiathos forum to tackle all the roads/tracks off the main bus route. We also bought a superb map showing all tracks and drove along most of them during our three days of exploring. Our first trip was to Kastro, unfortunately arriving at the same time as a trip boat but after an hour they had departed so we had the place to ourselves and could explore at our pace. We were probably there 2 hours exploring the four churches and looking at the views and with only two or three other couples up there, we enjoyed the peace it offered.

“early morning treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Kastro is the ancient Skiathos capital it is reached by either boat, organised coach trip, or by far the most pleasurable from a personal point of view by car either with invited friends or alone.
and early in the day .Why?around 9- 10 in the morning the sense of tranquility and quiet peace is almost touchable. There are 6 chapels all in perfect order and the remains of a Mosque, evidence of the Ottoman rule centuries before . It is not for the physically unpaired the hike up to the top of Kastro is not for the faint hearted but but for those able it is an early morning treat.

“Piece of history and pebble beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

We drove to Kastro from Skiathos Town and did the short and easy hike to the tip of the peninsula. It has some old ruins, which were cool, but what we liked best about the hike was the views. You can see secluded beaches to the north/west side and tall cliffs. The water looks gorgeous, beautiful color. We hiked to the beach (all of which can easily be done with flip flops) and stayed there the rest of the afternoon. The beach is clean, beautiful, great pebbles, and a good taverna. Boats come in during the afternoon bringing tourists in but it seemed that most of them went straight to the taverna. After 2/2:30PM or so, all the boats would leave and maybe 20 or so people would remain on the beach. This was our favorite beach in Skiathos for its pebbles, nature views, and tranquility.

Try to cheese pie at the taverna. It is delicious!

“Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

We visited this lovely beach, it's very tranquil and very relaxing. Later we climbed up to the old ruins of the castle, the views are amazing, well worth the climb. We eventually ate in the taverna on the beach and the food was delicious. It's well worth the visit. This beach and Lalaria in my opinion are the best in Skiathos.

“worth climbing 100%”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

It is one of the most beautiful places in Skiathos. we visited it by sea as part of our boat trip and we had to climb up in order to get to Kastro. It is amazing. the views and the feeling of going back in time. but be careful you need to have training shoes and not just flip flops as i did because it makes difficult to climb.
