“Believe the reviews & don't go”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2009

We made the mistake of ignoring all the bad reviews and are now very much regretting this - and having just arrived back we feel really deflated and disappointed.. We went on a half board basis and the waiters (staff in general) are so ignorant that we ended up eating out most nights. I think another review mentioned that they appear not to like english people. The hotel is certainly not 4 star - it's very tired and dated. We stayed in a Modern room - and this was just about acceptable, very basic - but definitely nothing special. Don't be fooled into thinking hotel has a private beach - it's open to everyone - and therefore it's unlikely you'll get a sunbed. Drinks in the hotel are extortionate - we happily like to spend money on holiday and are certainly not tight with our money - but coupled with the rudeness of the waiters the prices leave a real sting. Plus points? Ok I have to be honest the views from the hotel are fabulous - but hey you've seen these on the hotel website - don't waste your money staying there to see them - if you're desperate, just walk into the hotel one night - they don't control visitors and would never know if you just sat around the bar enjoying the views. Other tips - don't share a taxi in the resort - it's only the taxi driver than wins - he just charges each couple the virtually same price - he may reduce by a euro - but he just gets double fare for the same trip.

Having read the other reviews here we made sure that we had a modern double room and were glad we did because I heard others complaining about their rooms, which I'm pretty sure were "standard". Our room was very clean and pleasant with a nice view and decent bathroom with shower. The beds were pretty firm, so would come as a shock if you're used to soft beds, but we found them comfortable enough. Our room was quite near the bar, but with the French windows closed and air con gently on we were not disturbed, even sleeping through a thunderstorm on one night.
Our daughter had a single room which had not been modernised, but was fine, with a lovely view. The worst thing was the dingy corridor with stained carpet to get there.
Breakfast is plentiful with a vast choice. The quantity was not matched by the quality IMO.You should still find something to keep you going - the breads and the melon were my favourites.
I'm glad we were on B&B rather than half board because there are plenty of good restaurants on the island. We ate in 7 different restaurants in 7 nights and didn't have a bad meal. In Koukounaries I'd recommend Ilias Orchard and Strofilia.
The best thing about the hotel is the pool area, which is lovely with great views. We often had lunch here. A good salad costs 8 or 9 Euros, and a Litre of draught Mythos (local beer) costs 4 Euros. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly.
The hotel is on a hill, so not suitable for those who have difficulty with steps, but is otherwise well situated. There a couple of beaches within walking distance and it's also very easy to catch the bus to visit lots of other beaches and for dining out.
The best things we did were to hire a Jeep and go to Kechria Beach, and to go on a boat trip to Tsougrias, which is idyllic.

We have just returned from our holiday at the Palace. We expected at least 4 Star quality.
The reality is 2 Star. Our first impression on walking to our room was horror as all the carpets were dirty, threadbare and stained. Our room 128 was like a black hole. The carpet was filthy the chair and stool covered in hairs and dirt. The bathroom was disgusting, faeces around the bidet mould growing on the shower curtain splash stains up the tiles. the beds were so hard and the air conditioning so noisy. We complained and were moved to 105 this at least was cleaner and had obviously been painted but was still not up to standard. the bathrooms all need re-fitting and the bedroom furniture needs replacing. .
The waiters in the dining room are totally ignorant and spend the hole time chatting amongst themselves and serving you is an inconvenience. The food was very mundane.
The only plus to this hotel is the view from the balcony and swimming pool area.

From the moment of our arrival, my sister and I were the ones treated like servants, by the staff! I still can't believe the contempt the staff and Manager, have for their 'guests' and I'm still saying I've been treated better and had a much more pleasant stay, in 2 star hotels!

The Hotel itself, is a nice enough establishment, but the Executive Room we had, was not what we expected. The descriptions of their rooms, are not actually as the rooms are. Our two 'separated' rooms, were only separated by thin air! The airconditioning did not work at all, during our 7 night stay and was not repaired at all, making the room hot and stuffy and nobody came to deal with the cockroaches in our room
.
The house keepers did an excellent job keeping the room clean, (even if they couldn't get rid of the roaches) but be warned, they come twice a day and will still come in, even if the 'Do not disturb' sign is on your door. The house keeper walked in on me, the first night, while I was getting changed for dinner, after only knocking once and then barging in! Oh, and she had one of her 'friends' doing the rounds with her, which we were not impressed with. Needless to say, this did not happen again!

Breakfast was included in our package and there was a variety of food, but it was bland to say the least. We had dinner at the hotel twice and were again disappointed with the taste and quality of the food. Meals, drinks and internet are very expensive here. The wait staff were more interested in chatting, than dealing with breakfast or dinner guests and the barman will do everything but serve you first, because, apparently, the phone calls he has to make are more important!

Trying to arrange a day trip, through reception, was another nightmare we would rather not have experienced. I suggest you make your own arrangements, either prior to arriving in Skiathos, or heading into town yourself.

The hotel free bus shuttle to the two nearby beaches was probably the only reliable thing! Friendly driver and regular service.

We enjoyed our stay in Skiathos, but dreaded going back to the Hotel, especially if we had to ask any of the staff something. And, I made the fatal mistake of 'posting' my postcards from the Hotel and just over two weeks after having left there, they have still not arrived to anyone they were posted too. Coincidence? I think not! Postcards sent from Skopelos and other European locations visited after Skiathos, have all arrived!

Overall, the Hotel and grounds are nice enough, but I will definitely not be recommending it to anyone I know and I won't be staying there again. I really don't know why anyone who 'works' at this hotel actually bothers to show up each day, because the last thing they care about, is the fact that you are on holidays there.

This is the first time, in all my years of travelling, I have ever given such a bad review to one establishment and I still can't believe I'm doing it. I know you get what you pay for, but for 240 Euro per night, (for an Executive room) we expected better and I really think you could do better elsewhere, for half the price. The Skiathos Palace was a big disappointment, for an alleged 4 star establishment.

Skiathos is said to be the jewel of all the Greek islands and Skiathos Palace Hotel, in my opinion is the best hotel on the island. It has character and magnificent views overlooking the Koukounaries Bay from the 3rd floor roof and swimming pool area.
The staff are friendly, caring and polite. Unlike most hotels the rooms are generous in size and have english style bathrooms.
I have been a guest at this hotel for many years and once you have experienced this hotel you will feel a sense of magnetism to return.

We went with an open mind after reading the reviews. However please beleive what you read and if possible ensure that you are booked into one of the modern rooms before booking into this hotel. (ensure your not given a room in the dungeons a term used by the British).Classic rooms are dated and in some cases dirty with mouldy bathrooms. The beds are so uncomfortable that you are given mattress after mattress in the end we were sleeping on four piled high which did not help our backs as they sunk in the middle. The carridors are dark and carpets very dirty and stained. The waiters do not like the English and were in fact rude. Hotel offers prime rooms to mainly other nationalities unless you want to pay their expensive upgrades anything up to a 100Euro per night. We found that we were simply fobbed of by staff and the holiday rep who works for First Choice. This hotel did not warrent the money and if staying in a classic room this is not 4 star. We intend to take this up with First Choice totaly disapointed as this was our first anniversary. To conclude no one knew how to close a door in this hotel and doors bang from as early as 6.30am and the maid lerks in the hallway by 7am. This may sound like we had a bad holiday but Skiathos is lovely and we would return to the Island we did not let the low class rooms spoil our stay. Although we have done our research about alternative hotels and would return tbut not to the palace or it's dungeons.

My partner and I loved this hotel, We didn't have a sea view but that wasn't part of the deal with Thomas Cook, however the Thomas Cook brochure did stipulate a balcony so we were very disapponted when we were shown to a ground floor room with only a terrace. The staff were very professional and after a little persuasion we were given a room with a private balcony. Our room was large and clean with a newly refurbished, good quality, bathroom (627) with fresh sheets and towels every day provided by a friendly room maid.

The piece de resistance of this hotel has to be the view from the pool area and the restaurant - it must be one of best in the Med, with great sunset photo opps.

The buffet breakfast was great with fresh fruit, cereal, cheese, cold meats, 4 or 5 different types of bread, jam and full english.

OK, so the hotel has been around for a while, some of the bedrooms might not have been updated recently, but how much time do you spend in your room when you're on a beach holiday? This is a great hotel with good service and food and in an excellent location - if you want a view (maybe not from your room!) you've got to pay for it, be it 98 steps or ££.

Oh and by the way, if your rep tells you there's no indian on the island - there is, it's called Bombay Garden on Evangelistrias in Skiathos Town, and its very good. Also if you like blues and rock and roll go to Benbows Bar in the old town.
