“Amazing hotel, amazing views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

I have just got back from a fantastic week staying at The Skiathos Palace Hotel. From the moment we arrived at The Skiathos Palace without exception all staff could not do enough for us. I do not think I have ever stayed in such a friendly welcoming hotel. The atmosphere amongst staff seemed to pass to all guests. On arrival we were given a free upgrade to a 'modern' room, this room was clean, spacious and comfortable, we had a fantastic view of the beach and sea. Absolutely no complaints about the food, it was varied, fresh and delicious. The hotel lay on a shuttle to Skiathos Town, which incidently needs to be explored in both day time and evening as it has a completely different feel. The local bus runs regularly and you soon get to know the route into town seeing as it is one road, the whole way into town you get a fantastic and varied views of different parts of the coast. There is also a shuttle to the nearest beach, I must say we didn't take this but walked down the steps and up again at the end of the day. The hotel has a small private pretty beach, but Koukounaries beach is the same distance away, and absolutely beautiful, Koukounaries beach has some water sports too (not that we did water sports - just watched). All of Skiathos appears extremely clean. There are some bars and restaurants within walking distance to The Skiathos Palace, we ate lunch most days at a bar called Augusterra, the owner Dino is very welcoming and they do lovely cocktails. Also you can't go to Skiathos without taking a boat trip, mama mia is the theme on most of the boat trips as it was filmed in Skiathos and Skoploles, the church from mama mia is a must see. I will definately be returning to this hotel in the future.

Brilliant spot. 20 minutes outside Ski this town at the top if a hill overlooking the best beach we've walked in in Greece. Paid 110 but got an upgraded, ronnovated room. Not sure what was better, drinking wine on the balcony looking at the view or sleeping with the sound of the waves lapping on the beach.

Recommended by a local as the best on the island, hard to imagine better.

Summer of 2012 vacation in Greece was a last moment decision for me and my girlfriend. Though, i must say we have been so very lucky with the choice we made! We have chosen the Skiathos Palace Hotel in the northern Sporades complex of islands, as we have accordingly been advised by other friends. So what about it? Skiathos is a rare phenomenon of natural beauty and skiathos palace hotel is ideally located on top of a rocky hill in the middle of a pine trees forest with panoramic view to the koukounaries bay where the sand is like gold flakes and so very clean really! We have booked a standard sea view room which was more than ok. In the fewest possible words the hotel was really good!! Magnificent view, kind personnel with very satisfying level of english language ability, a very clean and almost private beach with bar facilities right under the hotel (Though there was a shuttle bus for these few tens of metteres too!), a great grill roof garden with panoramic view placed on a wooden white coloured terrace, a very big and clean swimming pool with a pool bar with really decent drinks only. Last but not least, all the kids of the hotel guests were playing in the fun park of the hotel without ennoying the guests who mostly choose this hotel for the peace and serenity feeling that provides them. I can certainly we 've been lucky indeed !

Room Tip: ask for a room to the 3rd floor

It was not our first time in the skiathos palace hotel, actually it was the fifth!!! But, you know, it only gets better and better! Since we made up our mind to travel for vacation in Greece again, this exact destination was beyond any question. I mean, why not? We have been in this hotel again and again and we always meet smiling people, high class services, delicious food and the best hotel beach & facilitieswe have seen among many others in Greece. Our room was always clean, our drinks and snacks by our little table, under our umbrella in the maratha beach, where the facilities are under the management of the skiathos palace hotel. For me this is the best of everything. Crystal sea water, pine trees,a cute beach bar playing our favourite music and 45 beach umbrellas only, i mean it's like been in private! Maratha beach is one of a kind and the best possible place in order to "reload" so we certainly recommend it !

Hotel fine, location fine, service fine but this is in no way a five star establishment.

Food at breakfast was edible but I still think it cheeky to not allow guests a bed on the beach especially if the hotel has aspirations of being 5 star.

Most importantly please don't get duped like me, a 'Classic room' is in no way classic, it is dirty unwelcoming, dingy, box on the wrong side of the hotel with no attention to detail. DO NOT LET THEM PUT YOU IN HERE.

Problem seems to be that '5 star' is just box ticking and that's all this place does. Hope Alistair Sawdays does a book on Greece soon so this kind of business doesn't get away with poor standards anymore

we have been in skiathos by the end of June last summer. The flight from Manchester has been in time and at last not so tirnig. We checked into a superior room with full sea view to the open sea and it was so beautifull & peacefull, as the spirit in the whole hotel.Generally speaking, their concept is low profile luxury. The guys at the reception desk were quick, accurate & friendly. The a/c in our room was 100% functional. contrary to other sadd occasions of so called 5 stars hotel rooms. The room was very comfortable and big enough for my wife's suitcases. We preffered the swimming pool for the first couple of days with the wooden sunbeds & huge umbrellas. Iwas exactly what we needed it to be.The pool bar was open from very early in the morning till late at night, providing us with some very decent cocktails and the mi\usic was easy listening creating real serenity. Lucky us, the children's playground spared us from shouting and diving into the swimming pool or around us. Service was good and in time. always with awarm, honest smile for us.It's been really good, good enough to keep an eye for the next summer. We certainly recommend it !

Room Tip: Breath taking view. Try the white view restaurant! Ask for a superior room!

Went here with my family Aug 2012 with my wife and 2 kids (8 & 13) - booked with onthebeach.com.
(saying this as it comes to mind)
Lets get this one out the way..TOM on reception as people say, the hotels saving grace. He is most helpful, pleasant, has time for guests and upgraded us from the classic rooms (the dungeons) we didnt even have to move our suitcases again, they did the whole move for us.The bar staff were nice, its really the waiters that were stone faced. cooking in 90c who blames them huh! oh and the cleaners, they were even more depressing!!
(TOM we love you bud. seya again this year for deffo)
By all means, book the cheaper classic rooms and upgrade to modern very cheap when you get there. The classic rooms are not really dirty, just drab, ugly and quite depressing. Not only that but its a real pain to get to your room as its so far from the main area (reception, pool, bar) and down dark, drab and depressing dirty corridors.
BUT, upgraded to the modern sea view rooms was another story (why dont they just upgrade all the rooms????) the modern room was a breath of fresh air. light and "modern", but more important closer to the pool etc. which really changed our view on the whole holiday! they are kind of basic, but we didnt care, we only slept there.
Food was amazing!! massive amounts of choice even at breakfast! You simply didnt know which to pick. from fruit salads to toast and cereal or full english!!
mealtimes where even better, different food pretty much every day (2 weeks of it)
I am a very picky eater when it comes to hygene and i simply cant fault it.(I dont think I faulted one meal the entire holiday. ie. dry, cold, uncooked etc)
Wicked views from the hotel (its kind of staggered in height) if you have sea view. I would binbag the garden view if you can, its not much cop.
Pool area was just about right for me, very relaxing and not overcrowded (most people of off sightseeing) and very clean all the time. Very pretty at night with the lights and palm trees.
The bar at the hotel again is very relaxing with wicked comfy chairs at the back area to just kick back with a game of cards (or ipods if your kids are like ours!! sheesh) the bar staff were always nice and friendly (hotels abroad just need to realise this is what makes the holiday for us brits!!)
I dont want to feel awkward when asking for something. There was non of this here, simply great bar staff.
NOW, walking and steps. I hope your up for this as there is a lot!! there is no "easy" walk from this hotel, VERY steep hill/steps down to anywhere and serious lack of lights at night to see what you are doing on them. there is however a convenient mini bus that is free from the hotel to beach at set times of the day (saving our thigh muscles).
The hotel beach is quite small and just nice to chill, not blasting music or water sports. Just chill there!
Bannana beach is another story for when you want some more "fun". Loads of water sports, blaring music and bars. Its quite nice to walk down (thin wood walkway at the back of the beach)
I was dissapointed at the "lake" behind bannana beach as you cant really walk around it (which would have been nice)
The town is about 20 mins or so away (coaches quite often all day) and quite frankly was a nice journey what with the views etc although my bottle went a few times being in a huge coach with them bends.
We loved the town, both day and night. with nice shops and a stunning harbour walk (millionaires toy boats) were stunning. At night we loved the mini outdoor stalls at the harbour selling art and trinkets etc.
Bit further up was a club type area, (closed in the day) and we never ventured up there at night with the little ones.
Now I love snorkeling and was really impressed by the amount of sealife I saw I couldnt get enough of it. even spotting octopus, flounder, razorfish, damsels, blennies etc (love it love it love it) me and my son went fishing most morning off the pier (bannna beach) which we loved. Great fishing, snokeling, harpooning shop in the town (telescopic rods about £15.00) all you need.
Hired a speed boat for the day, WICKED day!!! with the fishing gear, grub and sunblock in tow!
Going round the whole island and round a few others parking up, grabing a drink and a chill. (this is a skiatos must do!!) and the boats pretty quick 20hp I think it was.
tons and tons and tons of trips etc from the harnour, we were stuck for choice. went to erm. where momma mia was made and a few other islands (well worth the money)
All in all, we did not have a day that was the same. loads to do, great hotel and great food.
Stay out the dungeons (the classic rooms) and you will truely love this place. I have been from Egypt to Maldives and I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat.
I know its been said, but ive been to loads of the greek islands and resorts, simply non compare to the sheer stunning beauty of Skiathos. (unlike corfu with its MacDonalds! Whos dumb idea was that!) Its like Corfu was 20 years ago.The proper greece holiday.
Just a note: I had to go the dentist in skiathos as my crown come out. He fixed it there and then for 25euro!!! a good clean dentist, not some shady basement dentist. They also have english doctors in the town that you can go speak to.
