“Year End in Hydra”

Phaedra Hotel

Jan 1, 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

We've just returned from our 4 days year-end vacation in Hydra, Greece. Well, 4 days was the plan but we 'had' to stay 2 nights in Pireaus/Athens before the meteo conditions improve enough to allow the (fun)tastic 'flying dolphin 4' set sails to Hydra.
We've booked on the Phaedra Hotel because we were looking for something high-end and we've found it! Phaedra is not exactly an hotel for those used to travel for business as myself. It's a kind of home as we feel there so well. A little bit pricy, location is not bad, the interiors are perfect (simple tasteful decoration, Phaedra room ) and Hilda, the hotel owner, is much more than that, as said elsewhere in this forum she is 'what' makes Phaedra so special. Charmy and helpful, a guest for her is a friend.
Being cars-free, Hydra keeps the beauty of a preserved village while offering an essencial entertainment menu during low season.

The Phaedra Hotel is really fabulous and we had the warmest of welcomes from Hilda. Breakfast on the terrace was always lovely, with different home-made products each day. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Perfect! Friendly, beautiful, very comfortable, accommodating and In my opinion the best experience for the money. The Hotel is even more beautiful then the web site pictures and Hilda the owner was helpful and gracious. If you are going to Hydra (which we LOVED) stay here!

“Phaedra is GREAT”

Phaedra Hotel

Aug 9, 2007

Phaedra is absolutely fantastic. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the service is better than great. Hilda treats guests like friends. I loved sitting on the terrace drinking tea.

I came to the island for a meeting, and others at the same meeting paid a great deal more for rooms not nearly as nice. In years of traveling for meetings, I would rate my time at Phaedra amongst the BEST I have had anywhere. Next time we meet in Hydra, I will book at Phaedra well in advance.

“Loved Phaedra Hotel”

Phaedra Hotel

Jul 17, 2007

I stayed at Phaedra Hotel for 1 week in May 2007, and had the opportunity to stay in 3 different rooms, so I feel like a bit of an expert. All were excellent, but my favorites were Phaedra (upstairs with windows on 3 sides so it feels like a tree house); and Olympia (a 2-story room with bedroom loft upstairs, living room downstairs and its own private courtyard).

The bathrooms in all rooms were beautiful. All had showers with real shower doors! I’ve stayed in many Greek hotels, and they often have shower curtains that are too short or no shower curtain at all. All rooms also have kitchenettes.

While the hotel is top-notch, Hilda is really the best thing about the place. She’s always helpful, whether it’s arranging transportation; recommending places to eat (don’t miss Vigla) or things to do; or assisting with the occasional inconveniences that occur when you travel. I was sick when I arrived, and one of my friends discovered she’d lost her credit card in Athens. Hilda was extremely helpful in both cases. When she found out I was going to be there on my birthday, she even served champagne and strawberries and bought me a small gift! I’d definitely stay there again.
