“Magical Experience Exceeded Our Expectations!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

Twenty years ago, we visited Hydra on our honeymoon. We went back to Hydra, our favorite place on earth, for our 20th anniversary in October 2013. The Mistral Hotel made this trip even more wonderful than we could have ever imagined. The setting is a beautiful old building that has been remodeled but kept old charm. The garden courtyard of tables is available for dining or visiting at any time. The lobby is stately, classy and comfy. The decor of the entire hotel is in keeping with Greek art and is beautifully presented everywhere one looks. The hotel is meticulously clean. Our hotel room on the 2nd floor was so very nice. Besides a bathroom with tub and shower, there was a small refrigerator, wardrobe cupboard, dressing table, and louvered doors that opened to a tiny deck with a marvelous view of the garden next door, the roof tops of the village, and a corner of the Aegean Sea and the mountains. Owners Jenny & Theo and all of the Mistral Staff were always friendly and cordial.

The daily breakfasts offered to guests between 8:00 and 10:30 every morning are something to speak about. We were blown away! Theo prepares the meals. It begins with a warm vegetable puree in a little glass. Following that, guests are treated to an amazing parade of varied courses--each a little different each day--such as: fruite juice, egg in an egg cup, tomatoes with olive oil and feta, kalamata olives, dolomathes, a square of cheese pie or spanakopita, bread, fresh fruit such as melon and grapes, a fruity gelatin mold, ham/cheese on toast, followed by a delicious pastry of some kind. Of course tea and coffee are poured non-stop. The music that played during these morning breakfasts was beautiful. The ambiance of this experience made us feel that there could be nothing better in the universe at that moment!

We stayed for four nights. We can't wait to return. What a wonderful experience.

Hotel Mistral is a wonderful guest house. The rooms are beautifully furnished, and the hotel is clean and neat as a pin ! The location is removed from the harbor noise and activity, but a short walk to the harbor. The breakfast every day is outstanding -- truly gourmet, and different every day. The owners and staff are warm and friendly. Hydra is an amazing island to visit ... no cars, no scooters and everything is walk-able. I loved having the donkeys carry my luggage up to the hotel....they are down at the harbor when the ferries arrive.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.

We just returned from our first trip to Greece and stayed at Hotel Mistral in September 2013. If you have the good fortune to be taking holiday on beautiful Hydra, you will be even more fortunate to stay at Hotel Mistral. Simply stated, it is excellent, exceptional, and the perfect compliment to lovely Hydra. This small hotel is a jewel. Beautiful, charming, clean, serene, and ideally located. Hotel Mistral is very comfortable, has air conditioned rooms, and modern amenities. As soon as you walk up to the gate that leads into the sweet garden courtyard and hotel entrance you'll be overwhelmed by it's beauty, the feeling there. And you'll be pleased and relieved that you made the brilliant decision to choose Mistral. Owners and operators Jenny and Theo are the best! The most gracious of hosts. Fun and a joy to be with, they are 100% there for you with great service, helpful assistance, and recommendations that you'll appreciate. (Jenny speaks English perfectly.) And oh, the breakfasts! Delicious! We dream of having breakfast there again or just relaxing in the quiet of Mistral's courtyard. Stay at least four nights. There's so much to see and enjoy on Hydra. Or, do nothing and simply absorb this relaxing hotel and island. Hydra is also the perfect place to launch side trips to the southern Peloponnese. Just take a quick ride on ferry or small boat ride to nearby Ermioni and rent a car. (Thanks to Jenny's advice.) Take the scenic drive to beautiful Nafplio, Kalamata, and the many nearby archeological sites. It's easy, it's perfect! And guess what? Return the car and take the ferry back to Hydra and stay a couple of more days. Checking-out of Mistral seems like a ridiculous thing to do. We can't wait to return! Yassou and efharisto Jenny and Theo! Love and thanks from Nick H. (Nikos) & Nancy L., Greenbrae, California

Our second holiday at Hotel Mistral, and without a doubt, it is the perfect Greek retreat on the beautiful island of Hydra. The owners, Jenny and Theo, have created a stylish boutique abode with authentic touches of its history, evoking a calm yet homely atmosphere. Outside, the courtyard is full of lush green plants which provide a wonderful setting for the sumptuous breakfasts each day. Theo is the breakfast mastermind, preparing home baked breads....pastries....cakes ....( and his own jams)....different delicious soups....a hot speciality....juice......fruit....mouthwatering mousses....coffee...(and cereal if you can manage it!)
Breakfast Service with a smile is brought to guests by Jenny and her lovely assistant Nadia......just sit back and eat a meal fit for a king!
Inside is cool and calm, the only sounds to disturb the peace being the cockerels crowing, the donkeys braying and the church bells ringing......idyllic memorable sounds.
Finally..... the roof terrace......an oasis of calm....with stunning views over the rooftops down to the sea......with a glass of wine.......a perfect Greek retreat!

We spent four nights here in October 2013. Really nice rooms, very good breakfast. We enjoyed our stay very much. Very quiet in the night. Nice large balcony for a drink or just enjoying the sun. We can really recommend this small hotell.

Just back from our first trip to Greece and to Hydra and we absolutely lucked out finding this beautiful little hotel. Lovingly restored by Jenny and her husband, it's more than clean and comfortable- it is an oasis of cool loveliness just above the more touristy bustle of the harbour. Delicious and generous breakfasts, an easy walk to everything, an idyllic shady terrace, air conditioned room and marble bath to return to at the end of every day. I miss it already.

The hotel is a perfect hide away. The rooms are comfortable with open air windows (if you like) The breakfasts were magnificent and the owners are so service minded and caring of their guests that Mistral is just the place to stay at.
The courtyard is a haven to just sit and relax or to socialize with your friends.
We will absolutely be back very soon to Hydra and Hotel Mistral.
